Underrated Knives

I got a SOG twitch II some time ago, just out curiosity to try the asissted opening / flipper / lock back combination...

Turned out to be very useful and surprisingly ergonomic in my hand, altought its shape looks odd and seems (looks) to be to too short into the blade to handle ratio area.

I've found myself carrying it often, specially on work days at the office... nice flipping, well constructed and enough blade for office EDC... also can get really sharp.

I always loved my Kershaw Random Task in CPM440V. I actually wish it didn't have the ken onion speed assist. that was really a nice knife. great cutter, outstanding steel (that you just cannot get anymore), nice polished micarta scales - and it was very "non-threatening" - so non knife people didn't freak out when they saw it, in fact they often were curious as to where i got such an interesting utility blade.

I really miss that knife - but it HAS to be cpm440v to make me happy. I don't see them for sale much otherwise I'd grab one.

I'm with hiwa and audiopile...the Kabar Dozier Folders are incredibly underrated.

So is the BlackJack Grunt.

David Boye's dendritic cobalt knives. Lightweight, rustproof, unbelievable
cutting and edge retention. Nobody ever mentions them here.

I have one of his older folders in dendritic cobalt. It's got a wing pattern as the "thumb stud". I stopped carrying it when he discontinued them.

Dendritic cobalt is an amazing steel.

That's a no-brainer: Lakota knives. Excellent knives for fair prices. Unfortunately they went bankrupt if I am not mistaken - their website has been down for some time.

Fehrman knives are underrated too when you compare their quality to other high-end 'combat' knives and choppers.

I think that the Superleaf is underrated. Comp lock with that big slab of VG-10, killer ergos, and relatively light for all the beef.

The Ka-bar Dozier folders have been mentioned already. They are really a great value. It's the perfect beater knife. It's built solid, performs well, and cheap enough to where if you lose or break it, it's not a heavy burden on the pocketbook.

Gerber Big Rock! For 19 bucks it is very nice! RAT1...24 bucks! Awesome folder came so shape I was shocked! American Lawman, build well, edge was shape and the lock is amazing! Spyderco Tenacious...another sub 30 dollar knife that is excellent! My under-rated picks are based on price. You dont typically think a cheap knife will perform to the level of something 3-4x the cost. The RAT1 is my latest and I really like it, grip could be better but the knife has performed excellent!

Boker Trance and Wharcom. I love the designs and the fact they are framelocks. The wharnie blade (underrated blade shape imo) makes it easy to sharpen. Great knives for under $30. I'm admittedly a huge CLB fan.

Grohmann #3, it's what I call the "Canadian Puukko".
The (original) Canadian Special #1 and Bird & Trout #2 get alot of street cred from hunters & woodsmen that use their knives in the bush, but there's a reason the #3 has been Canadian Forces issue for almost 50 years.

I think the kershaw titanium bump is underrated. Great titanium framelock with crazy bright colored scales.
