Unhappy with transaction - Advice sought ***RESOLVED***

This guy brought W&C into the GBU....i thought such was against the "rules"

"That has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, it was just a thinly-veiled insult at another member. Sorry you got ran out of W&C, but trolling in this subforum isn't cool."

I guess it's OK for him to break the "Rules".
Did you report it? Can't expect supers to see everything.

Packaging sucked, knife not as described, give the buyer his money back! Thats all folks

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but I believe those who are implying that exchange forum rules were broken during the course of this transaction are mistaken.

Here is what a Blade Forum supermoderator stated about just this type of situation:

"The important thing is intent -- it's abusive if a non-contributing user posts in the for-trade forum intending to evade the rules and sell without contributing. If without any evil intention an exchange of email begins with a response to a post and ends up with a knife being sold, well, that can happen without any intention of cheating Bladeforums out of a membership fee."

That settles it then, no rules broken.

Glad to see it sorted out. Kershaw would probably sharpen it again or replace the blade. And probably replace the neoprene seals and the rubber seal. Good as new :)

You could probably ask for a new box from Kershaw, after all the distinguishing thing is the sticker on it. It would not be difficult to ask them to send you a new box in exchange for the old one.

Great post. We all need to adhere to a coherent grading system. Maybe the OP would have paid the same amount for a lightly used knife but of course the OP should have been made aware of the fact that it was slightly used before making that decision.

Seems like more and more sellers are misrepresenting their wares here lately.

I hear ya Brennan. I have no issue at all with buying a knife that is used as long as I am the one that gets to make that choice, and not have the decision made for me by something listed incorrectly.

I think a grade listing with description would be great. Not even thinking that it would stop the problems but it would give a good framework for expectations.

Bryan a little caution here, as I'm unsure what you are expecting.

The 0500 is disco'd, and we're not going to take the knife apart put in a new blade, new seals, etc...This just doesn't happen.

Disco'd items that are sent in are given a replacement option of equivalent value. There is no guarantee that your knife is coming back brand new (like perhaps you're envisioning).

The 0500 was very limited in production, were very difficult to produce, and there are not tons of parts and pieces at the factory.

I'm not seeing your knife as falling into the below warranty, but we assist in helping most that send there knife in whether it be their fault or ours. This is an example of what we see here at the factory daily.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=794246&highlight=kershaw I don't like it, but it's a reality, and a mentality that exists.

Thanks for your input, Thomas. I'm a realist and am not expecting a restored, NIB condition knife back. I spoke to somebody in the Kai Warranty Department today and she advised me on how best to proceed. Any other knife, I would have probably insisted on a refund from the seller, but I have a thing for the ZT0500. I'm not too concerned about the blade defect, but it would be great to have the bad ring and ripped gasket replaced. If the parts don't exist or it can't be done, I can accept that. It's not as though I was actually planning to throw it in the mud ;).

Incidentally, after carefully examining the knife and comparing it to another NIB ZT0500, I do believe it may be defective. The ram lock switch seems to be mounted significantly off center such that when switch is depressed it pulls the rubber gasket a greater distance than it was designed to move, causing it to tear naturally.

I'm a huge ZT fan and I will continue to support the company by buying up their knives. If they can't repair this one, I won't hold that against them.
