I recently stumbled on a great looking knife- not knowing anything about it I opened the link. When I read that it was United Cutlery I immediately thought of BUDK crap, but I kept reading. This is what I found......

This Willumsen Urban Tactical Blondie folding knife has been hand-crafted with scrupulous details offering an exact representation of a Willumsen custom knife. Rugged G-10 handle scales have been deeply jigged for an impressive grip and a tactical appearance. An aggressive-tanto-point 440C stainless steel blade has been honed to a razor's edge and its high-carbon content gives it an amazing edge retention quality. An oversized thumbhole allows for easy one-handed opening and a stainless steel pocket clip ensures your new knife will remain tight in your pocket or pack in transport.

Specifications
Blade Length: 4-3/8"
Blade Steel: 440C Stainless Steel
Closed Length: 5-3/4"
Overall Length: 10"
Handle Material: Highly-Textured G10
Locking Mechanism: Frame
Pocket Clip: Stainless Steel, Tip Up

This can be found for about the price of a RAT 1/ Tenacious or similar beaters at that price point. Needless to say I am a sucker and "won" one at 1/2 the going price, so I will give you a first hand opinion when it arrives. Mine will be the satin PE. This could be a HUGE plus or a very disappointing let down. I am not expecting much. I know they are cheap copies of the Willumsen knives, but at least it's an "authorized" copy. lol!

Anyone else have experience with these new United knives?

For what I paid (3x5) I will give it a chance to open a few bags of Doritos or something. It can't be any worse than the Hinderer copies on Fleabay. But when the factory description says, "tactical appearance" I want to run away.....

My fingers are crossed!!!!

Copies is copies, knock offs are knock offs, I don't support rip offs... :(

I'll have to do a little looking into this knife, my opinions above stand but if this is a licensed copy I'd like to revise the above statement to add, its my experience is that copies rarely if ever approach the quality of the original and as far as I've seen are disappointing when compared to the original.

IBTL, IBTM.

Er, what? I vote a big "do not want" on the knife in question, but isn't it a properly licensed Willumsen design sold by authorized bladeforums dealers (e.g. the linked knifecenter.com image--aren't they on the list)?

UC may stink, but if they paid Willumsen, how is this a rip off?

And why would this thread get locked? I must be missing something . . .

If it's an authorized licensed copy, I apologize but who says it's an authorized, licensed copy?

Budweiser is a fine beer, (says so on the label ;) )

In the interest of not biasing this thread I'll edit the first comment/post.

From United's website...

Renown for his innovative and tactical designs, Mikkel Willumsen brings his talents and knifemaking experience to United® Cutlery. Willumsen puts a modern spin on tried and true tactical designs

Alright a quick search and according to United he's licensed, although as far as I can tell they don't really come out and say it, it's kinda implied.

So with that said, I'm still not fond of the pattern but it must speak to some people or they wouldn't be making them.

Good luck with your purchase and hope you enjoy your knife, I'll be watching for updates, again thanks for correcting me and I apologize for the premature post.

Not correcting--I had to search too. I didn't want to start a war, just thought it was a step in the right direction for United.

I'm glad it doesn't say M-48 anywhere on it!!! :D

I will correct you--Budweiser is a fine beer, (says so on the label ) Budweiser WAS a fine beer until they sold out to Inbev. Now we drink American Patriot beer here in St.L!!!

We're all here for the same reason, information and conversion with like minded people, or at least people with similar interests.

Just looked up more of his knives, still not a big fan but there were a few I'd like to check out, I'd be interested to see what other versions of his designs they'll make. Still wouldn't buy a United copy, maybe if CRKT made something like his Hawkbill if check it out.

I don't drink much beer these days and when I do its not Budweiser, is Yuengling, made in PA's oldest brewery.

Budweiser is a GREAT beer, the Czech one that is - the American Bud tastes like you flushed out a beer barrel with water and then bottled that up and sold it :barf:

I kinda like the handle of that knife, the blade shape is really weird

I watched a video on this knife and the guy showed a certificate of authenticity that comes with each one. Nice touch.....I guess.
