Recommendation? Unnaturally crazy 'dagger' "Want!"

You're right about the Bokers being overpriced. However, I had a bit of cash fall into my lap and a moment of weakness last week. My LGS has had an Applegate 5.5 under the glass for the better part of 3 years. Still too much for 440c, but way under what they go for these days.

It's pretty much, IMHO, the perfect version of the knife. The full tang still remains lively if a bit handle heavy. It sweeps, splashes, and of course pierces as you would expect. The sheath is absolute irritating garbage, but I made a quick and dirty "front pocket* sheath like Fairbairn demonstrated in on of the reels where it can be drawn quickly and unexpected.

Let's keep each other posted.....
I plan on having at least one done before the end of Summer.
This is my thickest work on the HSS blades. I'm super excited

Personally I find no dagger design more attractive than the SOG Desert Dagger.

Cool old thread......
I always wanted an Boker Applegate dagger but kinda felt they were over priced....and that was when they were cheap.

I never held or saw one up close, but I know what feels good in the hand, and I came up with my own version. It's just drawn out on the steel, I need some time for Fun! Damn that blade was Pricey.... Ugh!

I'm still not sure if I'm doing a spear point, but I can play with that as I go along.

I hope one of these can satisfy the part of me that refuses to grow up.....haha

I did hold one at a knife store once. If I have had the money I would have bought it. They are nice imo.

Well, I dunno... all good suggestions here but you need a sturdy triangular tip to get through the chain mail.

Maybe it’s just me, but if I really had to stab through something, give me a tanto over a dagger any day

I have a number of Cold Steel knives that would be very effective stabbers but given the choice below for example, I’d trust the Recon Tanto in Carbon V over that impressive looking dagger on the left. Some of those dagger points look pretty thin! Could luck trying to break the tip off a well built tanto

Randall makes a good looking dagger.

Also take a look at the now discontinued Darral Ralph designed "Cuda Maxx" licensed by Camillus. They come up regularly on e-Bay. They are titanium handled frame locking folders. Handy but not quite a pocket knife at ~ 6" closed . . .but they flip open if you just think about it.

Among vintage daggers, there are the Gerber Mark IIs from various eras, and current mfg as wellI think.

The several EK models are always attractive too.

I made the knife I was talking about earlier......

So far I've seen pictures of the Ka-Bar Ek4
Looking at the handle, makes me think about Elishewitz colab with Ek. Great dagger BTW.
Good luck with your choice, didn't read the whole thread but glanced at some very thoughtful offerings IMO

I've been on a dagger kick myself lately. Bought an Axial Shift D/E, then my inner 12-year old shouted, "BIGGER!" so I bought a D/E Combat Troodon and am so, so happy. My wife, not so much. One more day of hearing the OTF firing all day and she'll be filing divorce papers.

Here's my Applegate 5.5 next to my current EDC.
I am going to say that this is the most well balanced dagger/fighting knife in my collect. The steel is just OK, but it man handles great.

Speaking of Böker A/F daggers, here are two I picked up. The first a folder in CPM-S60V ( https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/08/17/cpm-s60v-the-forgotten-super-steel/ ); the second a 5.5" 40th-year commerative edition of the GSG9 liberation of the hijacked Lufthansa "Landshut" in Mogadishu in 1977 (440C steel, rosewood handle).
