Unofficial CRK Collectors Club

Geronimo, you should post that video on the "can you thumb flick a Sebenza " thread. I didn't think it could be done.

I only have one small Sebenza and it might be the only one for a while , but I think it's great. That's all.:)

I love my small Sebbie, it is perfect for EDC. There is nothing wrong with only having one!! And I agree the small Sebbie IS great!!

My first and only so far is a small Sebenza Classic with African Blackwood.I think it would be cool to have it's larger sibling with the same inlay.I also love the look of the Mnandi's and would really like to handle one some day.

Here's an mnandi w/ jigged rosewood inlays that Lisa created.

I've misplaced a Sebenza three times in 13 years of EDCing. Each time, it was a situation where I was using it for an extended amount of time, along with other tools so I would put it down after a cut (instead of back in my pocket), use another tool, and potentially get distracted with some other urgent job. Each time, it took me days to come up with the Sebenza again.

The only CRK I've lost is my Shadow I, serial #161. Haven't seen it in a decade. Have no idea where it went, and I'm bummed . . . I've changed houses twice since then, so the chances of me ever finding the knife again are slim. :grumpy:

So, what are your loss stories?

I have two. The first was a Large Classic. I purchased it right when they first came out. I liked it so much that I bought a Small Desert Ironwood Classic as a "Sunday go to meeting" knife. AND TONIGHT I scored a Desert Ironwood Mnandi off of eBay for $241 - brand stinking new! I have sold just about every other folder I owned, because I just dont carry anything else. I have had a bunch of customs, but nothing beats CRK, and the company is owned and operated by such woderful folks that make their knives in the USA!

Renewing this most awesome thread, with Jame's original May 2006 post, quoted below. BTW, my first CRK was a Mountaineer II, #52, Oct. 1990.

7 and ½ years, ~50 knives and 5000 posts later, I thought it was about time we made it unofficial!

The contributors to this little corner of the web definitely make up the Unofficial Chris Reeve Knives Collectors Club. I thought it would be nice if the members were to sound off, and maybe take the time to tell us, what was your very first Chris Reeve Knife?

Mine was a Large Decorated Sebenza with a Unique Graphic that I bought on the For Sale forums here at BFC. I took the plunge and never regretted it. A few years later I asked the folks at CRK if they could make a Small Sebenza for me with a similar design, they did so and liked it enough to use it as one of the original Computer Generated Graphic (CGG) models, the “Line Drive” graphic.

Excellent thread, and I needed to post properly in it.

First CRK was a Shadow 2 that I purchased in 1993 while an E-4 in the army. Great knife. Since then, I have the following in the collection:

2 Large BG-42 sebenzas, 1 is an EDC
Large S30V sebenza ordered from the factory
Large CGG Stars and Stripes Sebenza
Large LE Sebenza with burl.

More are needed with my eye always out for a Flat grind or a nice P sebenza.

wow, old thread. :)

my first was a large classic sebbie with micarta inlays. i have been a fan ever since.

i have owned:
1 large regular web-sight
1 large classic with micarta inlays
2 small classics with micarta inlays
1 mnandi with damascus and bloodwood inlays
1 mnandi with mammoth ivory

unfortunately, the only one i currently still have is one of the small micarta. it is my current edc. i cannot wait to buy more again.

Great thread bump!

My first CRK was a small ATS-34 Sebenza purchased in Feb. of '96.

Since then I've owned:

"P" marked BG-42 small reg. Seb.
One of the all black coated small reg. Sebenzas that Les Robertson had done up...:p
Decorated (circles) Umfaan.
Plain undecorated Umfaan.
Numbered Blackwood Mnandi.
Ebony Mnandi.
Small reg. BG-42 Seb.
Small plain reg. Seb. with blue Spirograph Damascus blade.
Small Classic Micarta Seb. with serrations.
Large Seb. 21.

Of these, the ATS-34 (which I'll never willingly part with) and the recently acquired large 21 are the only ones that I currently own. When I think about it, the only departed ones that I truly miss are the plain Umfaan and the blue Damascus Seb. :(

I currently own the following:

Macassar Ebony Mnandi (My first CRK, earlier this year.)
Large 21 Plain
Small Classic w/ Tamboti

I have a Small 21 Mircarta and an Umnumzaan on order from CRK. Will be some time before they arrive but the wait is (almost) 1/2 the fun.

Here they are in order of acquisition :

As requested. I did not realize I had put it in from the reverse side until you said something.

I have 4 Sebbies, 1 Umnumzaan, and a Shadow IV. I wil have to get a picture of my whole CRK family.

I guess I’ll fill in some details;

First CRK knife: The Large Decorated Sebenza in my original post
EDC (even if it’s not a CRK): Large Reg, BG-42, c.1999
Favorite CRK folder: LDC-09 Sebenza
Favorite CRK one piece: 9” Sable, wish I had kept that bad boy
Favorite CRK non-one piece: Full size GB
Most beautiful CRK knife: 21st Anniversary Sebenza (pictured)
Favorite Chris Reeve custom: Lock 45, I’ll take any of them, really
CRK knife you’d want, money no object: Mokume Insert Sebenza (pictured)
The next CRK knife you hope to get: When and if they update the steel I plan on getting a Sebenza 21 set
Most interesting CRK story: When they redesigned the Sebenza (before the classic was the “Classic) they considered renaming the knife. I won an eBay auction for a large Sebenza “Prototype” from Scott Cook, the former CRK Shop Foreman. The Box was marked “Galuka Prototype”, I just can’t recall what it meant. (pictured)

James, there was a several year span in my cutlery enthusiast life where I just completely dropped out -- career, other distractions. During that time, I think your LDC-09 was produced. What's the story behind that knife series?

I have 20 Chris Reeve Knives to date. 15 One Piece knives & 5 Sebenzas.

2 Shadow 1's
1 Shadow III
1 Shadow IV
1 Spearpoint Knonka
1 Jereboam I
1 Jereboam II
1 Tanto I
1 Mountaineer II
1 Mark VI
1 Aviator
1 Project II
1 Tanto III
1 Sable IV
1 Pachmayr

1 Large Regular BG-42 Sebenza
1 Large Moon Song
1 Large Regular S30V I sent in to CRK for engraving
1 Small Vines
1 Unique Graphic

Next on my list is a Mnandi, one in Camel Thorne Possibly

The LDC knives were part of a series offered by Robertson Custom Cutlery. Several well known makers did exclusive designs, I believe it was 20 different knives all serial numbered 1 through 50. The LDC-09 was based on the Large Sebenza, the LDC-109 on the small. I'll check my paperwork, it was circa 1996-97, IIRC.
