Unusual things you (had to) use your knife for

I drove my 710 through drywall, sheetmetal and shingles just this week. Ahh the beauty of a work knife :)

Used my pocket knife to cut my steak for dinner tonight. First time I ve used my pocket knife to eat a meal. Used A Sebenza 25 and it worked well.

Driving a HiAce through the rain forest in New South Wales, I hit a vine or small branch that snapped off the mirror. Had to use the blade of my Victorinox Stylus to cut the wires so the mirror wasn't banging on the side of the van. :)

I pried open the gas cap door on my 4Runner last night with my Sebenza 25 because it had a sheet of ice on it.

Similarly, I used my Sebenza 21 to pry open my gas cap door since I think that the mechanism to open it had ice in it.

Prying the bark off dead ponderosa pines (looking for beetles).
It was a Becker BK2 though- pretty much made for that!

I've also made guitar picks. Drilled a drain hole in a kayak. Pop dozens of inner tubes. Pop open a public restroom toilet paper holder and cut off the old roll and slide over a new roll. I'm sure there are lots of others but I can't remember. Oh I carved notches in two poles to lash them and make a longer pole to prop up a tarp.

Two things come to mind:
Shave myself (once wityPM2 after loosing a bet , I don't recommend this :))
Open a coconut with my ZT0350

Used my Rat one for stripping carpet off of a concrete floor. The edge started out razor sharp, and by the end was totally dull/chipped/rolled by the concrete.

I then sharpened it up and cut drywall out of a friend's house. This wasn't quite as hard on it, but still pretty dulling.

After 1 more sharpening session, I batoned it through logs lengthwise and did other "bushcraft" projects. The Rat 1 survived the whole deal.

I cut a lot of ethernet and a couple power cords (unplugged!) last week. I love cutting cables. It's so cathartic.

My ice comes from the freezer. Thinking about turning up the A/C. Temps outside are not quite high enough to kick it on.

I used my self made machete to put some tension on an alternator while I tightened it down .
I used my opinel #10 to clean the grout out from between the bathroom tiles so I could re-grout them . Was surprisingly easy to put an edge back onto .
I use my mora leuku to among a lot of other things , flip eggs and steak when Im cooking out .
I have used a lot of different knives to lift carry and relocate all manner of bugs from the girls tents when we camp , spiders , centipedes , scorpions etc .
I used a roughrider fixed blade to scrape up the more solid parts of my nephews puke from the back of my car .

And this happened a while ago, but almost had to use my CRKT Minimalist to defend myself against my idiot cousin.

Don't mean to pry but would you mind some elaboration?

Also I used my ontario 18" to cut holes in 4'' thick ice so I could access the pipes below, and used my BK-11 stuck into a fencepost to keep a few rather over-enthusiastic dogs from escaping their yard.

Went to my sisters wedding and already sitting in the car I noticed I had missed a spot while shaving.
Only had a Tasman Salt in the car. The serrations and hawk blade didn't make it easy but the tiny bit of unserrated tip was good enough.
That was certainly an unusual task for that kind of blade.
Other than that I only use knives for what they are for, removing splinters, cutting stuff...

I think Myal wins so far!

My JK Canadian Belt Knife had similar duty to the RR fixed he mentioned...dogs are great to travel with most of the time.

I also smashed a few very chilly (and slow) paper wasps that were hanging out in rooftop equipment I was testing. It was more fun than using a screwdriver so I suppose it does not fit the "had to" use requirement.

i was camping so i cooked up a stake but i did not have a stake knife or a flash light so i grabbed my leek to cut it but i mst and cut my hand it took like a hour to stop the bleeding
