Upcoming Canvas Micarta M4 Shaman

Well I got mine today and honestly I’m a little disappointed. Blade centering is off. Action is stiff!! Went to adjust the pivot and the show side screw was barley in there. Decided then to take it apart clean and lube. Blade centering is still off and action seems very gritty. I’m puzzled because I got the DLT pm2 in cruwear that just dropped and it was literally perfect!
Check the liners around the pivot. Mine needs some love too…

My action is gritty as well. It also has quite a bit of side to side play.

Yeah, after some research seems this is a pretty common issues with a lot of these. Little disappointed in Spyderco on this one. I’ve owned and own quite a few this by far is the worse example I’ve personally gotten.

No issues with mine, other than being a little stiff at the first few openings. Easily remedied.

A few weeks ago, I received a DLC S45VN PM2, that I absolutely could not get the blade to center up on.
I took it apart, and found the stamped holes for the pivot, on both liners, had a significant burr on one side.
So, I used a Dremel with a burr bit, and removed the burrs. No more problems with centering the blade.
It wasn't the first Spyderco I've had issues with, and probably won't be the last.

Considering the asking price, it's a shame that the USA made Spydercos aren't built to the same level of fit
and finish as the Taichung, Taiwan factory knives. 😞
Maybe someday....

I can say with certainty my issues were in the liners. I dailed mine in this morning. It feels great, and I enjoy tuning compression lock Spydercos. At the price point we’re creeping into; it’s becoming a matter of principle for me. Love em, but I’m moving on. I’m gonna really use this one tho.

Mine is good example, Though it does have faint staining on upper right side of blade! The Satin M4 Jade Shaman exclusive had similar marks on it that rubbed off with semi chrome polish. Hard for me to tell the difference in color between this Micarta and the Cruwear/ZWEAR offerings! IMG_13052022_103528_(1500_x_844_pixel).jpg

Maybe I got lucky, or maybe these issues are just exaggerated on knife forums in general…making it seem like it affects a lot of them.

Mine was pretty much perfect. Ever so slight side to side play that I got rid of with maybe a 1/16th of a turn of the pivot. Was a little stiff at first, but smoothed out just playing with it watching tv last night.

Mine is good. Flicks open out of the box but didn’t drop close. I put some oil and adjusted the pivot and it’s just as good as my z-wear now.

The green is lighter than the brown of the z-wear, so I can tell them apart.

Mine is good, other than the centering being slightly off to the show side. Don't really care about that. Spyderco did a really nice job with the sharpening on this one. Measured 155 BESS out of the box, and dropped to 125 after a few strokes on Flitzed denim. One of the best factory edges I've ever had. That said ... it was 15° on one side and 17° on the other.

Why didn't anyone tell me you can front flip this thing? That was a pleasant surprise. They could extend that jimped area a few mm and make a pocket for the stop pin. That would make it a legit front flipper.

Does the small edge angle difference affect the average person, would you say?

I thought everyone knew that lol

I front flip mine all the time!

Man this is a sweet knife... contoured handles, large, I think I might even like this better than the PM2, but of course, I will have to use it first!
