Upcoming Canvas Micarta M4 Shaman

If I was going to have contoured scales like this, then I'm glad they're Micarta. I actually do not mind the blocky grips elsewhere on G-10 and stuff. I can't think of one I would rather have - Z-Wear perhaps?? No, I think this will be a big hit. I've seen what M4 steel does even with every day use on all kinds of abraisive stuff. I clean all the gunk off and the edge looks like it just came out of the box, so I respect that. I just hope it touches up and sharpens well, I'm probably overthinking the sharpening, but once I dull something whittling, I feel like I'm f'ed. I need to choose a dang sharpening system, besides the Sharpmaker...
I prefer it to the PM2 myself. The heavier blade makes the action more satisfying.
Yeah, I am agreeing there, it's even better than a broken in Yojumbo action-wise, and I have absolutely no use for front flipping, but it can do it, and it's pretty cool. Such a stout blade, but it is not a fat edge. On either of those knives. Large comp lock knives are dope, cannot wait for the PM2 XL/Military 2

I broke down a few boxes tonight. Sharpness before on a BESS tester was 110g. Measured after and the BESS score was up to 220. Literally 30 seconds on a piece of hanging denim loaded with Flitz polish and it was down to 105. So yeah ... I'd say it strops back good!

What's your sharpening system budget?

What's wrong with the Sharpmaker?
Diamond or CBN Rods, make the Sharpmaker, a champ!

Buy some, Mold Master, "rods" for a few bucks a set. They have 120, 240, 320, etc..

As for the stout blade and not fat..
I took my Z-wear and reprofiled the edge to 12.5° and microbeveled to 15°..

My thought. A knife this size, shouldn't be this Slicey!!
It is, tho. Lol

I am confused, actually - some say you cannot sharpen with the SM, only touch up. Others give techniques for full sharpening. It touches up GREAT on the Sharpmaker and I just bought CBN rods.

Is just a Sharpmaker enough for you?

Those that say, you can't "Sharpen" with it.. Probably only have the medium and fine, that come with it?

I use the Sharpmaker, for everything. Touch ups, reprofile, sharpen, microbevel, etc..

Sharpened a Becker BK-10, for a friend this weekend. (I wouldn't want to sharpen anything, much bigger)

Yes, the SM is all I need. That's for All the steels.

Well.. The one I opened, was smooth opening and drop shutty...
Off center, to the show side. 60/40...

I opened the knife and pushed the knife, holding the handle and sideways on the blade(in the same direction the blade is out of center). Centered and good to go.

The other 2 I had my eyes on, are both centered. Didn't want to get my grubby hands on the micarta. So I don't know how smooth they are.

Got a text notification today that it was back in stock at BladeHQ. Sorta surprised me and since I regretted not picking one up in the initial drop I snagged one.

They weren’t in stock for very long.

Occasionally a few boxes that were lost and then found will be posted up, something like that. That is how I got my DLC milled-copper Rex 45 PM2, just one was found and I hoppd on it.

Dang, I had to make a hard choice between this and a Bark River. Beings that I already have a crucarta which I adore, Bark River it was! Spyderco M4 is absolutely one of my fave steels.

Thank you for this comment! I bought myself some diamond rods for the SM, learned to sharpen S30V with it, wow, I could not believe it! Soon, I was sharpening a Microtech with M390, was awesome! Just got me a KME too, so, set.

Finally posting a pic of the knife! Perfect weekend camping trip set up, mayhaps?

Got the knife today. Never had so much blade play from a Spyderco, let alone any other new knife. You would think with so much blade play the action would be drop shut but it isnt. I'll be taking it apart and trying to fix it. Centering is also way off. Very disappointed in Spyderco with the QC of the knife. Absolutely unacceptable for a knife at this price point.

I'm assuming when these exclusives show back in stock, Weeks after the initial drop, They're returns made available again! Could be you got one of the few that slipped through QC or a blade someone took apart already?!? Hopefully it's just got a burr on the liner or gunk/thread Lock in the pivot! Good luck with your teardown and post back what you find!

I thought that too, possibly a return being sold again. The pivot screws came out very easy, no loctite at all. Same with the body screws. Didn’t notice any bird on the liner at all. Haven’t had a chance to put it back together but I’m confident I can get it right.
