UPDATED: BladeForums Special Edition Skyline interest thread

I would probably be in for one of these. I am quite happy with my little Skyline.

A deep carry clip would be excellent. My main complain about the knife is how much sticks out of the pocket during tip up carry, and tip down isnt happening with me.

Flat grind would be great, ghost green/jade or blue would be great. A primo steel would be awesome.

Again, I'd think that the most economical version of this knife would have a "slightly" upgraded steel (S30V, CPM154CM, or maybe even S35VN), a G10 color different than those already used, something to identify it as a BFC Kershaw (adding it to the model number is a great idea), and maybe even adding back a "born-on" date on the flipper. Everything else, pocket clip, blade grind, liner thickness, blade thickness, etc. would be the same as the standard Skyline. Change any of those and its no longer a Skyline.

If this sprint run is successful, then maybe we could entertain some of the more exotic options on the next one.

And for those of you who don't want to spend $110 on a unique Skyline because the Plain Jane version costs $37 at Walmart, then don't. I just think that you don't get what this about.

Personally, I think keeping the standard grind, standard liner thickness, and blade thickness is the best way to keep costs down. Once you start going with new machining and engineering tasks you start incurring additional costs. The Skyline has a thin blade as it is and slices just fine, IMHO. I think we're best limiting ourselves to G10 color change and blade steel change. Just my $0.02

$110 for S30V, FFG, new color g10, and limited edition? Sounds totally worth it to me. Count me in for at least 2, possibly more.

Changing just the blade steel and color of G10 to keep the costs down just like EagleScouter said.

I'm in for S30V, ffg and another color of G10. Blue is my preference but I can go with whatever color just to make this Skyline a reality.

I'd be willing to buy one. I say keep s30v or change to 154cm to keep cost down, with a black blade and marpat g10 scales.

One observation. I love my skylines, and have converted them all to deep carry. However - there is a big difference for tip up vs tip down carry. If you want the clip to deep carry/tip up, then anyone who tries to carry it tip down will have a large clip overhang. Not to dissuade anyone - I would really love a deep carry skyline. Just one more variable - the depth of the deep carry.

As far as materials - I like their Sandvik. Maybe just composite? definitely FFG.
Scales - how about something a bit different - perhaps aluminum (like the original idea behind the knockout)?

Finally got to the end of ALL these posts...

I'm in regardless of price.

1) I like the skyline

2) I like Kershaw/ZT

3) I like this forum

Soooooo.. How about orange/BF blue tiger stripe G10 scales? Blade steel? I'll leave it up to the experts. :D

Ohhhh, how about quad mount pocket clip?

If it turns out to have some unique qualities then I'll be interested and if it comes with a deep carry clip I'd be all about it.

What about a ZT0302 style color scheme with tiger stripes? One coyote tan G10 scale on one side, and a dark grey G10 scale on the other, with a tiger striped blade.

Interesting, this is the first I'm hearing about this special run and I was just thinking about this last night, ie, that I'd love to have a higher end Skyline. The two main things I'd like to improve on are the blade steel and the pocket clip. Just say the word water around my Skyline and it starts pitting! I'm in for a ZT560-esque low-rider clip too. I'd also like subdued colored scales since I'm not into the funky reds, blues, etc. I like carrying low-keyed.

I agree with the majority opinion so far, which is AFAIK: Stonewashed FFG S30v blade, blue g-10, limited edition markings, possibly deep carry clip.
I would rather it be cheaper, but who wouldn't, I'm in at $110 if it's like the above description.

Really like that idea

Not too interested in spending > $100 on a skyline, mostly because I could care less about s30v, a FFG, and a forum logo on it. The rest of the knife sounds awesome, different scale colors or maybe a dlc sandvik regular blade and deep carry clip. I'll just go get a 0350 instead.

you're not paying a $110 for a Kershaw Skyline, you're paying that much for a custom ordered Bladeforums "community" knife - and that to me is worth the extra $$$. those who've commented that they're uninterested in an overpriced Skyline might, perhaps, adjust their thinking accordingly - I know that it makes it a whole lot more palatable to me to own something from this site that represents this forum and community than it does to own YAS (Yet Another Skyline). face it, Kershaw doesn't need the business from 600 fanatical collectors, but IF there's enough interest from those fanatical collectors, they'll do it.

look at the Panerai PAM360 if you want the pudding and proof.

that said, these things are like frackin' Pokemon, I've got to get 'em all. I am missing a red SnapOn, but have ALL the others and have gifted black ones no less than four times, so I'm down.

FWIW, I'd KILL to see an exotic steel on a Ti framelock version, but if Thomas is watching, perhaps he'll think on a UPSIZED (minimum 3.5 inch blade, preferably a 4 incher) high end US made Skyline with Elmax or a composite Vanax blade on Ti in a framelock deep carry four position pocket clip config.

that'd sell like freaking hotcakes, Thomas. trust me on this. do a market interest survey. the Skyline has legs in different sizes, steels and models. look at the Spyderco Manix2's and all the myriad configs they've sold in sprint runs. GOLD mine.

for this one for the bladeforum "special edition"??? pull a higher-end steel from the racks, give me tasteful engraving on the blade, a deep carry pocket clip and a ranger green G10 handle or similar. i'll buy 3 at the stated price point in that config, and one if it's blue scales just to have one. if the price drops, my interest goes up and quickly at that.

make a larger one? yeah, i'll buy three for me and five for my brothers and best friends, then give them as presents to anyone who even remotely looks like they'd like a knife. just sayin.

YMMV, that's my $0.02.

Here's an idea, why not include two pocket clips, a deep-pocket carry clip for tip-up carry which is pre-installed, and then the regular clip as an extra if people want to use it. I doubt that would increase cost much since Kershaw is already using the skyline clip on the 0550 and other knives I believe.

YES please. hate that the skyline handle is so small. Its tough for me to justify getting one cause it doesn't fit in my hands
