I am in, and I hope we keep the price point high so that we can have all the options we want.

I'm interested as long as there is a steel upgrade(s30v or cpm-154) , and a scale color that is different from what is already offered on the current models.

Im in for one. I would prefer that IF they are serial numbered, I can get # 563. That's my badge number.

Also I would hope the price would be well under $110.00.

Which forum is that? Lol i had no idea, the only other one i know is the edc moonglow manix which is glow in the dark ;)

he's got it saved in a desktop doc and pastes it in.

That is exactly what I do, until I get a membership. I will get one, I love these forums!

Lol that takes dedication right there.

It does take dedication! but once you have it copied once, than it really isn't that big of a deal to press ctrl V after every post

see, click and done...

Well then good news, because I already said if you guys can get all 600 presold, I'd be more than happy to take 20% off. That puts it at $88 or so based on the initial estimate Thomas gets me.

If I have to sit on 300 pieces though, you'd better believe I'm not going to discount them. I'd much rather keep the site open, instead of owing Kershaw tens of thousands of dollars for unsold knives.

So, everyone can complain that $110 is too high, or they can help me out when I get final figures and promote the everloving crap out of this, get the knife at a discount, and EVERYONE wins. Which would you rather do?

EDIT: I just quoted your post and are you seriously manually putting in a signature with every post? Seriously?

Now that you make that point, I think I would be alright spending $100+ on a skyline, but I would probably only do it if all 600 are sold, so I will get some money back in my pocket.

I am definitely in for one, no matter the outcome of the voting or design. I bought a gold membership to support the site without any intention of selling anything and any profit from this would definitely go towards supporting the site. Besides, in what world do you live where you're getting a small group collaborated knife with upgraded steel, factory manufactured scales in a color they don't normally offer, and a 1 of 600 knife for under a hundred dollars? The fact that the foundation design is that of a budget folder is irrelevant. The skyline was chosen because it's a damn nice folder with broad appeal, not because it was inexpensive.

I'm feeling this member's forum name and post. As I posted in the other thread, I'm in for 1-5. Unless it looks like shit on a stick, I'm in for 3-5.

I'm in for one for sure. Stonewashed blade with S30V, Elmax, or S35VN as my top steel choices, and blue, jade, or digicam as my top G10 choices. A deep carry clip would be awesome, but not something I couldn't live without. I also like the idea of a full flat grind.

Regarding price, I'm more than happy to pay anything under $150. More than that I would have to seriously think about, but would probably end up getting anyways. The price is high for the materials in many production knives that's true, however since this is such a limited run for such a limited audience I totally understand the increased price. Like Spark says, he's on the hook for these whether they sell or not, it's not like he can just send them back to Kershaw saying "Whoops, only sold 250! Can I get my money for the other 350 back?"

Bunch of cheapos and whiners!
I think this should definitely be open to the entire forum to get this rolling. I also think it should just be a bladeforums special, nothing to do with the non-existent 'mafia' ;) and also not numbered. I think keeping it with g10 and s30v will be the most realistic option to get them sold. A deep clip would be cool too, I like that idea a lot. I think keeping the markings to a minimum is good but still something to tie it to this forum.
Depending on what the final design is, I'd be in for some.

For people complaining about the price, I can understand but most of the comparisons I've seen so far is pretty off.

All of that said, it's all just my $0.02.

Spark,

I think one of the issues is (and I mentioned this in the other thread) is that people don't really consider S30V to be a 'premium' steel these days. There is also the problem of $100 being a mental block for a lot of people. As I said, and others have stated, I'd be more willing to buy multiple at 75-80 bucks than I would be to buy one at $110.

That is just considering using S30v.

If you want to set the price over $100 then I think you would be better off using more exotic options and going higher. All these people crowing about the s30v skyline being $110 would likely be glad to pay $115-125 for Elmax/zdp-189/carbon fiber etc.

Once you get the pricing from Thomas, maybe start a poll or two to see who would prefer what price point.

Also, have you thought about tossing in a year of membership to help justify the cost?

Elmax, M390, CTS-XHP, S30V or S35VN with a Hinderer style texture on the G10

Color is a hard one for me because I like loud colors sometimes - I LOVE the yellow scale on my 0550 but I also like orange (I just bought 2 Orange Skylines from Cabela's this morning and I have two of the brown with DLC blade Skylines on the way). I like OD Green and Coyote Brown too.

No coating, make it FFG in PE.

And if possible, what would soften a higher cost for me would be thicker blade stock than the standard Skyline. It helps flipper deployment with more energy from the weight.

The deep carry clip sounds good to me.

I just think colors aren't as special today as things like thicker steel and maybe thicker liners. Those are the things that speak higher quality and "special" to me. Colored G10 is a dime a dozen - but that is not to say I wouldn't prefer something besides black.

I'd take yellow, orange, brown, tan or green though!

I'm in if it happens and for whatever the price ends up being if the knife stands out for more than just scale color ;)

I don't understand what people want to keep trying to change the foundation/function/form of the Skyline.

We love it because it's a slim, light, low cost EDC blade. Why do people keep wanting to make it fatter and heavier?

We noticed. Let me ask you this, what knife would you prefer be the forum knife if not the sacred Skyline. What knife would it be ok with you to upgrade? Seriously I want to know. What I cannot understand is so much resistance to take such a well liked design and improve the steel and change the handle color. I cannot understand why you are so opposed, no one is twisting your arm. Did you miss this earlier?

A) I've been one of the biggest proponents of this project from the beginning.

B) I've made multiple suggestions about steel and handles

C) My post was in direct response to this:

That among other people who want similar radical changes.

If I want a frame lock, I'll get an od-1. If I want thicker anything, I'll get a number of other knives. I love the skyline because it is thin and light. It disappears on my pocket. I think that is why most people like it but for some reason other people want to change that.

I'd like to see Kershaw's Composite 14C28N/CPM D2 for the blade steel. Kershaw already has experience with it, and it looks unique. For the G10 I'd like to see something different. Black, Orange, Red, and Tan has already been used. I really like Maroon or Burgundy & you don't see it used much. Maybe a dark green similar to that used on the Stag Arms Manix.
