I'd love to buy a LE Skyline that's BFC exclusive. I have a few thoughts:
To me, the Skyline is a great knife as-is. The point to a forum knife (in my mind) would be to celebrate the existing design rather than alter it. An exclusive color and small engraving would be more than sufficient in that regard. Anything beyond that likely starts increasing costs, dissuading some folks from joining in on the fun. My wish would be to put in a few exclusive changes without raising costs too significantly.
It appears most members want some sort of steel upgrade. Personally, I'm fine with the Sandvik steel, especially considering that a lot of folks probably aren't going to carry this knife and those that do aren't likely to beat on it. That said, if the steel must be upgraded, I'd be interested in Kershaw's existing 14C28N/CPM D2 composite as Halfneck suggested earlier. I'm guessing this would be a nice compromise between the desire for a tougher and different steel choice while likely being less expensive to produce than S30V (again, this is just a guess). Still unique, still exclusive, but possibly putting the final price within reach of more members. And if a new steel is a guarantee, I request that it not be bead-blasted.
As for a deep carry pocket clip, same thing: if it's going to increase costs much, leave it off. That I know of, Kershaw doesn't already have a drop-in replacement for the Skyline's current pocket clip so this may require added costs in machining or alterations to the G10 and liners (pure speculation on my part, sorry if this isn't the case). If the deep carry clip does end up on the final model, I humbly request that the hole pattern remains true to the original Skyline, so those of us who don't want it can purchase and/or swap the standard clip in.
As for color, I'd like to see something bright and distinctive. Blue's starting to be done to death, but I do like it and it looks to be the most popular choice at this point. I'd also like to see lime or neon green or even neon yellow.
Finally, thanks very much to both Kevin and Thomas for doing this. Whatever you folks decide on, I'm sure it will be a great knife and sold at a fair price.
