[HARDCORE RANT MODE ON]

Well my holidays are officially ruined!!!! This is a long story so try to stay with me.

About month or so ago I was selling some items online (Not here) and had a couple of decent sales. They were two sets of identical swords, 3 per set. Each sold for $275 with shipping. One was going to California and one was going to Ohio. Well I label all of my packages here at home and I filled out the shipping forms at the UPS customer service center. I mailed both sets, had my receipt/tracking form and went on my merry way. About a week later my wife went into labor and things seemed like they couldn't get any better. We finally get home from the hospital and are settling into are lives and I get an e-mail from the person in Ohio saying where the hell are my swords.

I go online and type in the tracking number on UPS's site. It reads delivered, upon closer look I notice it was delivered in Venice California. No problem, they must have switched tracking numbers, so I go and type in the tracking number for the package that was supposed to go to California. It reads delivered in Venice California:confused:

So I e-mail the customer in Ohio and explain what happened telling them that UPS made a huge mistake and I will get them sent her way ASAP. I call UPS and they give me the HUGE HUGE Week long run around. Until my showing my receipt with the Ohio address on it right in the face of my local UPS manager. So now I have UPS onboard with THERE mistake and they offer to do a free pick up in California and deliver the goods to Ohio where they should have gone in the first place.

Well this is only half of the battle. Now I have to get this guy in CA to answer my e-mails about him getting an extra $275 worth of merchandise. After another week of e-mails with everything short of having friends in San Diego pay them a visit I get a return e-mail saying they received both sets and would be there at certain times he gave me so UPS could come do the pick up.

Well 3 attempts later nothing, he wasn't there for any of them. UPS tells me that’s all they can do, And they wouldn't even reimburse me for the insured value b/c they tried to make it right, But they will give me half cost on another shot at pick up=$15:mad:

Three more attempts go by with UPS saying he wasn't there and the guy saying he was home all day. Now I have the customer in Ohio pissed and they tell me I have one more week before they will dispute the credit card charges. (I can't blame them, I would too) Now you have to remember I am e-mailing the people in Ohio nearly everyday giving them updates. There are no other swords to send them and there money is long since spent. I went so far as to scan my receipt from UPS, forward the few e-mails I got from guy in California and talk to them on the phone several times to ensure them this isn't some scam and they will have there swords in time for x-mas, which is why they wanted them.

So now I have this guy in California claiming he is calling off work and going out of his way to try to help me and be there for UPS, UPS saying that he is not there, and the customer saying I have one more week before they dispute charges.

So I go and use Yahoo yellow pages, call the guy in California, get him on the phone and to my luck he says "I am going out of town for a few weeks" So while talking to him I go to UPS's website, type in his address and find a UPS center not more than 3 miles from his house. I begged him if I paypaled the money that he send these swords to the person in Ohio. The shipping on this large box costs around $20-30 to ship, He agreed if I paypaled him $60!!! What else can I do?? So I do it. I paypaled him the money, and I actually got a tracking number. I forwarded the tracking number to the customer in Ohio, explained that they were on the way and all is well with the world again right??

The swords were due to be delivered on Thursday and for some reason I didn't even bother to check the website to verify delivery until about an hour ago. They were in Indiana  I am wondering why they are in Indiana when I checked the site on Wed. they were in Ohio already, and there it was THEY REFUSED TO RECIEVE THE PACKAGE CLAIMING THAT THEY CANCELED ORDER!!!!!! So guess what?? They are on there way back to California.

To say I was upset would be an understatement!!!!!!!!!!! I will never get those swords back, I even called UPS to see if its possible to divert the shipment explaining the whole story, And if you think this guy in California is going to send them to me now your crazy!! To top it off he is out of town for a few weeks. Where are they going to send them if he is not there to accept after three attempts.

So here I sit. Just waiting for the bomb to drop, I could be getting an e-mail from PayPal any minute or day now saying the credit card charges are being disputed and I have no proof of delivery so I have to accept it. And $275 will come out of my PayPal balance and bank account. Officially breaking me:(

I am not sure who to be mad at most. UPS started this whole thing, the guy in California made it a huge ordeal, delaying it weeks and taxing me $45 total due to delivery, and then we have the customer. Even though I don't blame them for being upset for the time delay. They knew how much I worked and how hard it was for me to get those dammed swords sent to her from that guy, they knew they were coming from his place and not mine, and the knew if they refused delivery that they would be sent back to where they came from.

I wish I could say Rant mode off, But I am not cooling down nor recovering from this until some time in mid 2003.

I have tried hard and made huge progress to become a model citizen and reform from my childhood hoodlum days, however something like this happening to me makes me want to lash out against the system and show people why I am called TheBadGuy!!!!<---(Trying to make me feel better:))

BG. . .

This thread belongs here ! Talk about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly ! They need to add "the Nasty" and "the Painful" to the forum name just to properly describe what your feeling and what you've been through !

Your situation is as bad or is worse than the BS that I went through with Stider Knives !

Dude. . .you got jerked around by both UPS and the a-hole in California ! :(

Man, I feel for you. . .deeply !

But, don't let it ruin you and your family's Holiday season. I know that it's easier said than done. . .

TheBadGuy, that flat out sucks. Sounds like UPS is not near as user friendly as they lead people to believe they are. Having known several people who in the past worked for UPS, I know this time of year is totally insane for their delivery persons. Depending on the route they drive it is an expectation to make a pick up or delivery every 4 to 6 minutes. That doesn't sound too bad until you consider what all is involved and the fact that it is over an 8 to 12 hour time period. Not making excuses for UPS but they are busy all day long, so to speak. The system is much more prone to mistakes between the middle of November and the end of December than it is the rest of the year just because of the enormous amount of material they are shuffling throughout the country.

Rant mode:
Spent $20 to return a knife to someone overnight, got jerked around via e-mail repeatedly and then I get a PERSONAL check from the dork (initial payment was instantaneous, via paypal). I will not be using the funds represented by the out of state check until my bank tells me that it has cleared.

Feel for you,but why would you use UPS.
The only time I have used UPS it was a fiasco.
Item delivered to wrong address, signed for and stolen. No one claimed responsability.68 days to get my money out of it.NEVER AGAIN
At least the Post Office has bad assed Postal Inspectors that are on your side.
PS: never lost a package with over 700 transactions.Late a few times.Never lost

I agree about UPS and I almost never use them, however you have to remember that this was 3 swords and the weight is the only reason I used them. Anything over 10lbs I used to use UPS and anything under I use Priority Mail. NOT ANY MORE:(

You just don't know how much I sympathize with you. I am terrebly sorry that this kind of thing happens to people.

I do think you still have a case with the UPS. They are clearly NOT absolved of responsibility since the problem was created by them sending it to the wrong place. I would insist on fileing an insurance claim, or at least an official complaint. And if they won't let you, go over their heads until someone listens.

As far as everything is concerned, here's what happened : You sent a shipment, they did not ship it where you indicated them to. Period.

Please check out http://www.ups.com/using/custserv/ups_csp/claims_faq.html

Also, this package needs to be intercepted somehow. Just because someone says they are going out of town, doesn't necessarily mean they will be. If you have anyone that can go and look and talk to this guy, it'd be great.

I have some other advice if you want, but you'll have to privately email me for that.

We lost 3 grand worth of Gerber Mark II, this year due to something like this. It burned me hard, but we survived. You will too.

Keep your chin up !

By the way, what's your paypal account info ? I'm sure some around here might like to help out a little.

Thanks Cumberland, To be honest I am very discouraged with UPS just with the troubles I have gone thru to get them to attempt a pick up, but I will try to take it up there Chain of command. Wish me luck:)

Meanwhile give us the user name of this CA person so we can avoid them.

He is not a member of BFC, this was thru Half.com and he is a buyer, so I doubt folks here will have any problem problems with him.

I feel that you should post the EBAY users screenname. Many of us here both buy and sell on EBay and Half.com. The user may list the swords on Ebay, where a BF member may end up buying them. Just something to think about.

I agree. Let me wait and see what happens with them being redelivered to him. I think he deserves to be put out here either way, But there is still a chance he may send them back to me in the end.

I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER USE UPS OR FED-EX ever again Period I dont care who wants what , I ship USPS exclusivly if they dont want it from them they can drive to my house and pick it up , and I will NEVER walk back into a mailbox ect. / pacNmail again either . had a simmilar problem awhile back with fed-ex had another prob with ups last year all the problems I have had in 3 years with USPS didnt cost me as much as those 2 did in since I have been shipping stuff ;)

Hey TBG, muy nuts hurt just reading your post.

Here are two options for you.

Option 1 - Let the package get sent back to Ohio and tell the people to keep them for their trouble (it's better than the guy in California having both sets!), or have them send you what they think is a fair price for their trouble. What the hell, you're pretty much already never going to see them or your money again any way so why not salvage something from it.

(BTW, I think the guy in Cali is BS'ing you to avoid the situation, but time will tell to see if the returnm delivery is accepted...)

Option 2 - Have the people in Ohio accept return delivery and if they are anywhere near me I'll pick them up and get them back to you. (After I thouroughly test them out of course ;))

As a reformed evil do'er myself I know how frustrating this kind of thing can be. I hate UPS and USPS and FedEx, they've all screwed me at one time or another FWIW.

Believe me cpirtle, I wish they would get sent back to Ohio. I am not sure if you may have it backwards, The people in Ohio are the ones that refused delivery, so I highly doubt that UPS will ship it back to them again. As for the guy in Cali, I will give him the benifit of the doubt for now, but I doubt he will work with me anymore. You got to remember he didn't have to e-mail me back at all and intead of gaining the money he jacked me for shipping, he could have kept $275 worth of swords. Still no excuse for the massive runaround. Only time will tell how this one turns out:(

Yep, I guess UPS wouldn't send them back to the people who refused them would they... didn't think of that.

Well, then I suggest Danbo's method ;)

Package was accepted in California, Still no return E-mails from that guy, He stated he would be out of town until after the Holidays. So now I am waiting for him to get home to see if he will forward them back here and I am still waiting for Ohio person to reverse charges, I offered her a refund via Money Order and never got a response from them either:(

You're barking up the wrong tree...
You should be going after UPS...
The assumption is that as soon as the package was signed for by an unintended recipient, that package is lost forever and your responsibility has ended. Take your paperwork and take them to small claims court... Companies hate Small Claims because it costs them more to simply show up, than to just pay the claim...

Of course, you still have to appease your original purchaser, but that's a different story.
