Urban Dad needs a knife recomendation

AG Russell gentlemen framelock. Its a mini but difft version of the higher end acies.

I'm completely biased and you need a Para 2.

Also I have a 707 sequel and its my favorite 3" knife.

If you go over the $150 and get a 940 or 943, you will not regret it I promise. Ignoring my Para 2 bias, a 940/943 would be ideal for what your asking IMO.

And on the more budget end, check out the Kershaw Oso Sweet. Way pleased with mine for the price.

The 943 does look really cool too. So you biased to the para 2.. do you find that it is tactical? Remember I am an urban dweller and work in an office. haha My knife wants are always bigger than my needs.. See my previous post about wanting more than i need...

I guess thats why I am posting in here. You guys have helped many people identify what they will actually need instead of lust buying. although your also the cause for much lust buying im sure.. haha

I had my old pm2 on me on 4th of July and flicked it out to cut out some fuses on fire works and sure enough someone had to say something.

If you want a knife that no sheeple will be scared of, you are kind of locked in to a slip joint.

I've carried everything from my old Gerber Auto to my LMF around all over the world, and I have never had anyone say anything negative about my knives when I take one out. What do they say? I almost want someone to say something, just one time.

Sorry to derail with the rant Gable, I just find it irritating. To keep with the thread, I'll recommend the SuperLeaf again. I don't see anything wrong with your preference for a larger blade, and the SuperLeaf is about perfect, for me. :)

Spyderco Manix 2 light weight frn, Spyderco Delica 4, Spyderco para military 2.
Benchmade 556 mini grip, Benchmade 551 grip,
Or no one has mentioned this one yet.... Drum roll ...
Buck Vantage large 345.
3.25" drop point flipper, frn design, sheeple friendly, super deep carry, and less than $30.
The 420hc is adequate for most edc tasks, and if you want a better steel is available in 13c26, & S30V.

What about the 710? It solves both of your issues with the 707 and its only a little over 4 ounces.

And as far as lust buying, I'm sure there are many other things that you own that are more than you need.

So if there's a particular blade that you cant stop thinking about, you'll enjoy it more than something you settle with and youll most likely end up buying eventually anyway.

Usually it's just a stupid comment along the lines of, "whoa whoa whoa, where did that thing come from? You carry a knife? Better not piss you off..."

Your right the issues would be solved with the 710 however I think its too long. its almost 4 inches! Sheeple beware!

The ONLY time I have ever had anyone anywhere ever comment about my knives is at family get-togethers. I've never had someone I'm not related to comment on a knife I have, except "that's a nice knife." (ironically when I lent a guy my spyderco manix 2 beater knife.......but I run in agricultural circles, so lots of people have larger folding knives, lots).

All I care about with regard to EDC knife lengths is that they are 3.5" or less (I only own 3-3.5" blades). If it's legal to carry, I don't care who sees it, doesn't like it, or whatever.

As mentioned above...I really like the Buck Vantage Pro as well...deep carry, comfy, might, and a NICE sharp hollow grind. Bos heat treats are...a treat!...especially on S30V.

I live in an urban environment, and have the office type of work life.
Lately, I've been carrying a 530-1303 (Carbon Fiber, S30V version of the 530), but before this one it was a well loved 940 that I bought for myself a few years ago.

If you don't care for the coloring and blade shape on the 940, then the 943 is definitely worth looking into. They can be had for below your budget from KW.
In terms of what you NEED... I have yet to find something that my 530 can't handle. Opening mail, packages, cutting down boxes, whatever I throw at it.

I did carry my BM 585 for a while, and while it served it's purpose very well, I found that I didn't like the extra bulk. Weight wasn't a big deal, but the thickness got to me, particularly in dress pants or khakis.

Sooooo I just went to a local shop over my lunch hour. I handled a number of the knives and the Benchmade Flipper.. I think I found my knife. The flipper was amazing! Heavier than i wanted but it carried very well. Im smitten i think! :o

Have you ever thought about an Emerson EDC-1. That would probably fit most of your needs and more.

Just pulled the trigger on the Benchmade 300sn. It caught my eye and it was a done deal. :) Thanks everyone for your help and opinions!

I have three of the knives people have recommended-- the Benchmade 940, and the Kerdhaw Leek and Oso Sweet.

I love the 943 (and lust for a 940) and have carried it every day since I bought it. It also has a longer blade than either of the other two. I also work in an office and have not had issues when using it. It's slender and the fit and finish just say "gentleman's folder". It is also manual opening so people don't think "switchblade" the way they sometimes do with an assisted opener.

Both of the Kershaw's are also nice. Of the two, I would say that the leek is more sheeple friendly and is made withbetter materials.

One other factor to discriminate between those three is that the oso sweet runs about $25, the leek around $40-75, and the 940/943 over $150. That means you can buy 2-3 oso sweets for the price of a leek, and 2-4 leeks for the price of a 940/943.

In my opinion the quality of each goes up along with the price, but you're the only one who can decide if it's worth it for you.

Possibly, but I've found that people tend to freak out more based upon the width of the blade, not necessarily the length.

A slim 4 inch blade looks less intimidating than a wide 3.5 inch blade IMO.

Either way, I don't care what people think of my edc so I digress...

BM 530 if you are looking for lightweight. I love mine. It fights for pocket time with my Spydie GB and Kershaw Blur.

 good deal, post up some pics. I need to get one of these.

Definitely post up when you get it. I've been eyeing that one up for awhile, but I always end up with something else for some reason.
