Urban Lightweight in K390

Had points to redeem at KC, so picked this guy up. Actually I didn't need any reason other than seeing it listed to get one. Hell, if they're still in stock next week I'll pick up another to go in the non-user collection(doesn't have much in it so far).

Really looking forward to trying out K390 before I consider a Police. Can't believe the deal for this steel. Haven't given Spyderco's take on a slipjoint a go yet, so that's also a plus.

Hi JenWrath,

Welcome to our forum.

Thank you sal, glad to be here. How did this pair up of K390 and Urban come about?

By the way, you and your company make rather excellent knives. Just incase no one has mentioned that to you before.

I didn't want to buy one of these without handling one, but I had a chance to get my hands on a n690 Urban today at a brick and mortar.
I would say this fit my hand like a fatter delica. The clip can be viewed as making the knife a little uncomfortable, but it can be removed and work out just fine for a coin pocket, or back pocket carry. The half stop isn't like a traditionals half stop, it feels like another detent hole was drilled in the liner, sort of a "click" then it pops right back out.
Overall, I am a fan and I will be picking one up shortly.

It's the same size as a Cat except with more negative blade angle.
The half stop on mine is like you describe, when opening. When closing it's more positive, and takes more force to break it over to continue closing it, about the same or slightly more from fully open. No problem one hand opening/closing.

So far I like everything about it, except the very tiny pivot surface area. I'll be comparing it directly to my hap40 df2.

I've been carrying my hap40 dragonfly pretty regularly. Let us know how it stacks up. Maybe a direct picture comparison

Thanx JenWrath.

On the Urban, "It seemed like a good idea at the time". A way to play with the steel in daily PC use anywhere without blowing a bunch of bread.

My expectations are high, but hss in any form is a hard act to follow in my experience. I'll do picture comparisons for sure.

It's a great idea, imo... same with the hap40 series.

Too bad this is once again a sprint run I won't be able to pick up as I do not live in the states.

Well, I stand corrected, I just purchased one from blade HQ, never mind the fact that shipping costs half of the price of the knife, but at least the order went through without a hitch.

Received mine, and have carried it for two days now. Really loving the new backspring. Tension is just about perfect. Opens with authority and solid engagement, and I have no fear of closure. It is much improved from my prior ukpks (not the tuning fork version).
The frn color is really nice, too. And the texture is spot on. Really, really well-made blade.

Now, I can't wait for the s110v ukpk - will be about the perfect knife for me.
My issue is whether or not to get a backup. Have about enough money for another k390 urban or a Jazz delica. Decisions, decisions.

BTW: an urban wharncliffe in k390 would be just about perfect as well!

Hi Foofie,

The K390 Urban is a sprint, 1200 pcs, then it's gone. The Wharncliffe Delica is regular production.

Thanks Sal.
I was trying to support the Wharncliffe delica, so you would have no choice but to make a hap40 version:D
I just ordered both. Problem solved:thumbup:

Thanx much for the support. We'll make the HAP-40 warnie Delica anyway, though it too will be a sprint.
