I'm sorry to hear about your friend who passed from Covid, I know exactly what that feels like. However you need to deal with this asap and not prolong this problem.My side of the story: I'll first start by commenting on being surprised by how many hostile "knife community/BF members" lurk in here seeking to get involved in and create or accelerate drama, often where there should be none.
This seller's knife was lost by USPS. It was sent Priority Mail so was supposed to take a few days. After about a week, (and these times I'm referencing are very close rough-estimates, not off by more than a day, as I'm not going to sift through emails & posts to look for exact time & date stamps)...so after about a week, all tracking info froze. Seller & I spoke and seller asked me to wait & he'd look into it. Then by the end of the second week of it being lost I stated I thought at that point a refund was warranted. He decided he wanted to wait, give it more time...then went silent on the topic for about another week. All his decisions. I just waited.
I did not go to mods to complain.
I did not go to Paypal to try to force a refund.
I did not go to GOOD, Bad & Ugly to write negative things about this guy.
I was patient, understanding that he didn't do anything nefarious, USPS "lost" his shipment.
He eventually sent a refund and I thanked him for (eventually) being a man of his word...after waiting several weeks to get any resolution with him.
Then about a week or so after that, seller contacts me and says it's moving again and if it shows up I can send him a discounted price (yes, in writing) if I want to keep it, or send it back to him. Sounded reasonable.
It eventually arrives at my shipping address (a UPS P.O. box). One of my family members that share this box and has legal acess to it picked it up (among other packages) within a day of it's arrival...again, after being "lost" for multiple weeks.
I get back to him/seller within a day from that. Not good enough for him apparently. He starts making threats & demands....after 2-3 days of the thing showing up beaten, dirty, ripped, opened, re-taped and crushed. I wrote him and sent him 5 or 6 photos of what I picked up at my UPS store. He reiterated I send him his new quoted price or send it back. Not a problem, in my mind.
During all of this (weeks) I had a friend go into I.C.U. with Covid. It's really no one here's business but an explanation has been demanded by some unknown BF members and suggested by a mod, so here it is... I was consumed with helping him, his wife and his son. He was intubated (tubes shoved down into his lungs to machine breathe for him) and put into a medical coma while they did everything they could to try to save his life as he developed Pneumonia in both lungs, his kidneys failed and his heart & lungs weakened to the point that his O2 was so low that they could barely keep him alive. He was on this ventilation in I.C.U for a fucking month. His wife & son terrified the entire time, rightfully so. They were vaxxed, He was not. Not allowed to go into the fucking hospital to see him. Covid rules.
I too have a career, a wife and kids. I was dealing with all that we all deal with in life...and a dying friend, and his wife and only son he might be leaving behind, that needed my help and involvement. So I was busy. I got back to the seller as soon as I could, which again was within a day or two of this lost knife appearing. Not good enough for him.
He outright LIED about me EVER "refusing to send it back to him". Our discussions are all in print. This was now last Thurs. or Friday and assuming I have a day or two to get to it, open up this mess of a package to see: A) if his knife is in there, B) if it's damaged C) and then decide if I want to buy it from him or send it back to him.
Again, He has me waiting weeks for him to decide if he wants to send me a refund on his lost package, roughly 3 weeks after it was supposed to arrive....but begins almost immediately to raise all the Hell he can against me... with mods, Paypal and GBU stories doing what he can to damage my reputation on BF. I get this lost item on a Thursday, contact him by Friday and he's raising hell on Saturday. You gotta be kidding. And if I'm off by one day somewhere, I apologize. Not sifting through his rants, threats and actions to find timestamps.
So the resolution: I don't want his knife. I don't want to deal with this paranoid jerk because he has acted like a vindictive, hypocritical, lying creep...someone I don't want to do business with.
So here's my dilemma. I'd prefer to send his knife back but I don't trust him at all at this point. I feel sure, based on his insane actions that if I did send it back, he'd again lie, just to be vindictive, and claim I sent something different back or that I damaged his knife or whatever he can come up with, because I think this guy, frankly, is nuts.
So to avoid dealing with this jerk and whatever future bullshit he'd likely attempt to pull, I'm gonna pay for a knife I don't want from a seller I detest and now legitimately and completely distrust. Can I swear on this site? this page? this thread? No idea. Well, I did. if I get banned for it, c'est la vie.
He can have his precious $150 bucks and his $25 back he later sent for return shipping. And he'll only have waited a few days since this thing arrived, not weeks like he made me wait, for a refund of payment for his USPS lost item, when he felt like it.
All he has to do is, I guess the safest and smartest way for me to do this so I'll have proof of payment, cause he's a dishonest creep, is send me a Paypal money request for $150.
In closing, the reason I can respond to all this crap now is that my friend (also a husband and father) died last night, in the hospital at about 2 am.
This is the first time I've had the time and focus to deal with this petty shit, a few days after this jerk's lost knife finally showed up.
Hope this "explanation" is good enough for all who felt they needed to know the details. If not, I couldn't care less.
