In every for sale thread I make, I try to specifically point out, in underlined and or bold letters, that I can only accept USPO Money Orders or cash. Only.

Every single thread I've posted with lots of items listed and this information given, I've had at least one person send me a personal check, money gram money order or similar. Not going to list names, but it's frequent enough for me to want to make this thread.

I think I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to start mailing payments back instead of hassling with cashing them. I just wish people would abide by the terms I clearly lay out in my sales, and save me the hassle. If my terms don't work for you, then save us both some time and don't buy from me.

When I say US POST OFFICE MONEY ORDER ONLY, I do mean it.

United States Postal Service.

Just an FYI, since it's all about misreading. ;)

I understand your frustrations.

Only a certain percentage of people read the details of a sales thread. I always post no trades, ConUS only, PayPal payments only -- and invariably people ask me if I'll accept a trade, if I'll ship out of the country, and will I accept a money order, etc.

Rather than getting upset about it, just be grateful you've sold the item and received payment. The only issue might be with personal checks, which entail bank fees if they bounce. In that case I'd contact the buyer and tell him he's on the hook for a 50 USD surcharge if the check bounces (but say it politely).

That happened to me once; I accepted a personal check, and the check bounced. I contacted the seller and it turned out to be a mix-up with his wife's use of the debit card, or something; he paid my fees and the original amount and all was well.

I understand that each person has different financial services available, and that each person has different preferences. But...

A USPS money order is about the most expensive method of sending payment. $1.05 (plus postage), compared to a few cents (plus postage) for a personal check. PayPal costs a bit more than a personal check but it's safer, payment is instantaneous, and there's no postage cost involved. Even a money order from a store (WalMart, Western Union, etc.) costs half as much as a Post Office Money Order.

My point, it would be nice if we (BladeForums buyers and sellers) could keep more of the money amongst ourselves, without making financial companies rich...

ViVi should discount the price by $1.05 to offset the cost of the USPS MO.
Better yet, each potential buyer should take that into account when deciding whether or not to buy an item from Vivi. An extra fifty cents isn't going to matter to me, but I'd rather the 50c didn't go to the bank or Postal Service - I'd rather it either stayed in my own pocket or went to a fellow BF member.

BTW, I had a recent transaction with Vivi. He was a bit particular with payment type, but there it was no problem and I'd do it again.

Hahah, point taken Phil. However it would be different if I just mailed you a MO and expected you to deal with it, when you clearly specified otherwise.

I recently tried to go out on a limb and let some people use paypal, working through a friends account. It was the biggest PITA of my recent life, and I was without my money for weeks waiting for crap to clear and schedules to match-up etc. I never want to hear the word paypal again. :D

I think I'm just going to use bigger fonts from now on.

It might sound trivial to some people, but it can be a bit of a hassle for me to cash other forms of payment. I like the MO because I can cash it as I'm mailing the knife, which is convenient. Cash works just as well, I've sent and received it without issue. However, trying to cash anything else requires me to find a friend or parent that can help me out, since I don't have a bank account and don't plan on ever getting one if it remains avoidable. I have my reasons, but that's for another thread.

If you get paid with a PMO you can cash it when you ship the item. Which works best IMHO. Larry

A nickel here, a dime there -- it's all part of the price of the knife. A knife goes on sale for $150 and a week later it's down to $125 and the taker wants to know if he can deduct an extra $1.05 because a USPS MO is sooo expensivvve.

Like J.P.Morgan said about a yacht, if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it.

I hate the trade guys. if I wanted to trade the knife I'd put it in the trade forum. Some of them barely speak English. One of them just posted "Trade :)" and that was it. No info on contact or what he wanted to trade. I don't mind too much if they are polite and just give an offer though.

I totally agree with all you all!! (yeah, I know, improper use of the English language!!) :D

What I said, is what I said, and that's what I meant to say!! And that, as they say, is that!!

I agree with Phil that people just don't take the time to read. Since each seller has listed his/her own specifications on payments, shipping, trades vs. no trades, then the BUYER should not complain when getting negative answers to their "silly" questions!!

Oh, my...did I just say that... rant offf!!

Depending upon the purchase price i sometimes just mail the cash to a well regarded and known seller here. Like we say, feedback is everything, but reputation is beyond reproach! I make things convinent as much as I can as a buyer or seller. Using or asking for a USPS Money Order is not too much to ask on either side, the 'off brand' money Orders or 'checques' really irk the heck out of me, and I refuse to take them because of the inconvience factor involved. There is a US Post Office in every town in the USA, and Canadian folks don't seem to mind them one hoot either!

You're not taking into account the fees and risks that the seller may have to incur.

A USPS money order can usually (depending on the amount) be cashed at any post office without any fees whereas other types of money orders either have to be cashed at a check cashing place (which charge 5% or so for the service...) or deposited into a bank account (and hopefully clear).

Also, I'm not sure of other types of money orders, but those from the post office can be purchased with a debit card in addition to cash.

I specify either PayPal or USPS money orders in my BST listings and I'll discount the percentage that the PayPal fees will cost me from the selling price if the buyer pays with a postal money order but not if they want to pay with another type.
