USPS and COVID

An update, the package sent over 5 weeks ago to the Chicago area, now shows as being in the process of delivery. After showing as in transit for the past month to the day.

I’m not making excuses, but for the past month my route has been “cyber Monday” EVERY DAY!! I normally average about 50-60 packages a day. Now I have to go back two sometimes three times a day for more packages!!! It’s crazy how much there is!!
Hang in there.....

Anyone have alternative suggestions for reliable shipping from US to EU without it costing an arm and a leg? I checked UPS and either I did something wrong when getting the quote or it's about 3 times the cost of using USPS.

It’s been a few years since I checked but UPS was 3 times what USPS was to ship domestically. UPS is a deal when you own a biz and ship a lot of packages. They have flat rates.

Not really, I’ve shipped a couple of items to the UK and Germany and both times I would only use USPS International Priority to the tune of around d $35 a package.

I would not ship anything these days that could not be tracked and that is still the cheapest international option at this time for me.

Your job is essential and I’m glad you are able to carry on. I am wondering if you feel safe wrt COVID?

I would like to go to the post office to mail some items, but last time I was there it was fairly crowded and exiting the post office was a police officer not wearing a mask. We are under instruction to wear masks in public when physical distancing is not possible. Also, there are a lot of cases in this neighborhood in particular, including among police.

Sure, I feel safe. People are following the rules..... mostly. Plus the post office has some guidelines for us to keep safe as well. I do use nearly a bottle of hand sanitizer a day. That is taking its toll on my digits. I worry more about having a mailbag full of stimulus checks and only 1 can of pepper spray!! :D

I we have to wear a mask while we are I the office- but I do not wear one while delivering my mail. I would die!! Plus I can control my distance while I’m walking my route. I do wear a mask when I deliver my businesses or the church on my route.

That's good to hear. Yeah, the hand sanitizer and masks can be difficult if you have to do them constantly. Our mailman does not wear a mask either when he goes around the neighborhood and that makes total sense.

I was wondering if you are aware of any measures supposed to be taken for and by the customers when they go to the post offices.

Ours has 1 large door in the front which becomes a bottleneck. People stand there and chat so it is difficult to get in and out. Last time I was there, the person behind the counter was not wearing a mask, and the open floor plan did not set any guidelines for customers to distance-- with people congregating around the countertops. Maybe this isn't such a big deal for everyone, but as I mentioned this one of the hottest spots in Boston for the virus, AND I am taking care of a cancer patient undergoing treatment....so I'm very wary about going back and pushing my luck.

it has caused a minor hiccup, but the package eventually arrived. nbd, these are perilous times

One of my USPS Priority packages (coming to me overseas) has been stuck in the Miami hub for 2 months now. It's been 'Processed', but never 'Departed'. The seller actually resent the package again, only for it to get stuck at the exact same spot. On the other hand, some free Benchmade replacement clips came through with USPS First class in 4 weeks (via San Fran hub).

The first sender contacted USPS, who cited the COVID situation in general terms, but basically said 'too bad'. Was not given the option to have the package returned, etc. It sounds like USPS to overseas is a bit of a crapshoot at the moment - very dependent on the route it takes to get out of the country...

Our post office has a couple of clerks working and everybody waits outside to be called in when it’s there turn.
