USPS Lost my knife. Help!

You've stitched yourself up with this thread. Now, anytime one of us has usps woes we'll be like "I know a guy!" ;)
That's why we have the "ignore" button available...for those who can't take a hint.

Hopefully the "reason" they are mailing you is your knife, and that does not get lost again. Rooting for a good outcome for you.
My hope is dwindling, but realistically, I think has go to the consumer advocate for a 2nd appeal, and with any luck then I’ll get paid out. 🤷‍♂️

Sold one elsewhere, recently, and after mail pickup...nothing, no tracking. While you must wait about 15 days, I think to file an insurance claim, I was able to file a "missing mail" and initiate a search through USPS online about a week later. I admit that I didn't have high hopes and had, in fact, already refunded the buyer. Then, lo and behold, USPS notifies me that it turned up in Anchorage, Alaska (was bound for Washington). It was then delivered in a few days and the buyer liked it and re-paid me (communication is the key IMO). Point being...the missing mail search worked for me. Good luck.

Exactly what is happening to me right now. They lost a package I shipped out and I filed a missing mail claim. Nothing so far...
I am keeping the buyer updated though- very important!

Usually that missing mail search or an inquiry will get things moving again. Most of the time it’s in equipment that was labeled empty.

I submitted both of the following and they still determined that I had provided “insufficient evidence of value.” I provided both an invoice for a replacement and a formal appraisal. I have no idea how I can provide more clear evidence of the value, and the next appeal goes to the consumer advocate.

And it’s been 30 days?

Shipped the package 6/21, submitted the claim 7/15, got my first denial about 8/11, and first appeal was denied about 9/8.

That's been my experience. Any time there was a delay, I filed a claim with Canada Post, which I guess gets forwarded to USPS, and every time the package would show up and get delivered, usually within a day or two. Once ever did it look like it was legit lost, but even then it finally got delivered after a couple months of me hounding the Canada Post claims department. Customer is in Alaska. He got his knife literally four days before I was ready to ship the replacement I had made for him, expecting I'd be taking a loss.

I paid thousands of dollars on insurance in the last five years on all these packages, but this circumstance and my subsequent research indicate that, like most are saying, postal and courier insurance it is nigh unto a racket, unless you know exactly what you are doing. Even then they have a lot of weasel clauses. FedEx and USPS both have clauses in their insurance or declared value coverage policies that exclude or limit insurance coverage for the labor value of handmade items, focusing coverage primarily on the material or replacement value rather than labor or artistic value. Did the employee tell you that when you asked for insurance?

Anyway, since then, I have come to the conclusion that if I need to insure a shipment, it would be with CollectInsure (if I were shipping from the USA), and will be with ShipSimple since I am shipping from Canada.

That’s very odd
Any advice for me moving forward? I picked the knife up in a trade so I don’t have a receipt or anything additional to add. Pretty much feels like my only option is to hope that the consumer advocate reviews my claim with the information submitted and approves it?
