USPS Lost my knife. Help!

Hello, weird one here. USPS Lost my knife. Had it sent out for dlc and was sending it back to be re lasered. Secondary market value is higher than it sold for from the original vendor. Now I need a statement of value on my blade from a “reputable dealer.” Does anyone know a “reputable dealer,” who would be able to do an appraisal and give a fair valuation?
oh great, right when I was about to ship my SHF out for a replacement... Guess I'm using Fedex!

I shipped my knife out on the 10th. It’s still in St. Louis. I have called everyone I know that works down there and nobody seems to have any luck finding it. 😡

I had a handmade knife I sold here recently just disappear. It was never scanned after they picked it up and never delivered. it's been a month in a day or so.

I don't think I'll be using them at all for any of my knives in the future.
Very encouraging to read this from you, i have been frustrated with usps multiple time as well, specifically on knives. Thankfully i knew the member before so i was sure it wasnt his fault. Have your packages been affected?

They randomly didn't scan a package with one of my handmade knives and then lost it. I tried filing for a missing mail claim and nothing. It's been a month now so I'm sure it's gone.
So now I'm out a lot of work, a nice knife, $200 which I had to refund the buyer, and look bad for the buyer (not that they don't believe me but still...) Very disappointing.

I still have only had one issue with USPS, some steel I was shipping to another maker in a small flat rate box, but USPS does loose 1-3 percent of the packages and total volume a day has been 67 million parcels.

I like to think that dropping the boxes off at the counter to be scanned and taping the piss out of the boxes helps.

Sorrry this happened to you. Is the customer a member? Your reputation is flawless... not sure why he wouldnt believe you, there are many cases reported here.

Yes, that happened to me about a month ago now. Yes the customer is a member and believes me. He was great about the whole thing- its just obviously I wished it hadn't happened :(

I’ve seen a pattern with things I've shipped via Priority mail. If i take it to the human behind the counter, pay my postage, AND they scan the label in my presence, i have no issue with it getting delivered and tracking will show a pretty direct route to the destination.
If i use the self service postage machine and the drop box or pay online and leave it for my postman, i don't see a first scan for days. Also the package tracking number will show it crossing the country or some crazy route to go 200 miles. Or it will show it sitting in some city 1000 miles away for days but gets delivered a couple hours later then tracking updates to delivered.

Now, I only mail things at the counter and witness its first scan when I pay the postage.

We've shipped out thousands of packages by buying shipping labels online via pirate ship or something and then just leaving it for the mailman to pick up. So this was just a terrible chance I guess...
Either way, I'll either be only using ups, Fedex, or paying for a much higher level of usps in the future for my knives.

Fair enough. Stay strong, youre one of the best... cant wait to have my 2th from you.
Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement. Unfortunately, it has to happen with everyone sometime…
I’ve got to ask, which knife do you have of mine? I don’t remember.

Being a USPS employee doesn’t help. I currently have a small Priority box hung up in St. Louis. It’s been there since the 10th! I am just waiting so I can file a claim. I refunded the buyer…. But I’ll only get the $100 back. 😡

Sorry to hear that with any luck your claim will go smoother than mine did.

So, with the government shut down should I assume none of us will hear anything about claims until it’s running again?
