Usps lost my knife

I use to process claims at the post office. In my experience, 90% (at least) of the problems and issues I encountered were due in part because of the shipper’s …”effort”. Lack of packing materials or jumbled up addresses are huge reasons why things get lost or broken.

I can see how that can cause issues.
Not the case here. Packaged just like I did it many times before. Taped up the seams of the box. Taped all 4 edges of the label.
Not sure what went wrong this time.

No. I think the tape over the bar code can interfere with the scanners. Or so I read on some labels.
It doesn’t, talked to the postal lady about it. If the tape is wrinkled covering the bar code, that could interfere with a scan. Other than that, it’ll read. If the label was not protected, it could have been damaged/torn off.
FYI, CollectorKinves ships their boxes completely encased in a plastic wrap.

I have been wrapping my boxes entirely in white paper, then 100% wrap with clear packing tape and shipping UPS. Knock on wood, ZERO issues. But i don't sell that much so the little extra effort is worth it too me.

I completely cover the label in tape except for the bar code, and haven't had any issues, but if the tape doesn't affect the scan, then I guess I'll start covering that too.

If you use regular plastic transparent shipping tape, it should not. Of course, take some extra care when sticking the tape over the barcode to avoid air bubbles, folds, etc.

I thought the issue was the somewhat reflective surface of the tape.
The scanner won’t read it right.
But if not, I agree. Would wrap the whole label in tape.

Reflective surfaces are less of a problem for modern handheld scanners (it is one of the usecase for handheld scanners and almost all manufacturers now include better scanning capabilities). Also, you will notice anyone scanning will move the package or the scanner around for it to pick up the barcode. Overall, you should be okay having a transparent tape on the barcode without wrinkles, air bubbles or debris caught underneath. Stick it carefully, flatten it properly, and you're good to go.

The post office can stick it where the sun don't shine. Latest incident here was just today. A package (value $250) showed as "out for delivery" as of 6AM. I sat by the door as the tracking changed from "by 7:15" to "between 11 and 1" to "12PM to 3PM" to "by 7:15" to "by 9:00PM" and now, at 8 PM local, "ready for pick up". So now I have to wait until Monday, drive across town, and hope it's there to be picked up.

Bought a watch from a guy in Pittsburg - 139 miles away. After it was delivered to USPS, look eight days to reach me. At least it arrived, Can't feel safe until an item reaches my local serving PO. Those folks are 100% for several years now. I am going broke buying beers for my neighbor for delivering packages sent by UPS, DHL, and FedEx - just dumped on his open porch in all weather - better than the parcels they dump at the foot of my rural mail box or in the roadside ditch. Current USPS carrier drives up to the house if a parcel is oversized. But before the locals get it, a roll of the dice for the last ten years.

I bought an item on ebay shipped from Connecticut USPS Priority to Massachusetts. Somehow, between CT and MA it took a cross country journey to Los Angeles and back. 🙄
I pay the extra for Priority 2 day now to avoid the round the world trip to go between 2 neighboring states.
