Usps theft

Seems odd to me that the PO would just let any random person hanging around the area sign. Especially at an apartment complex.

I am neither Monofletch, nor Esav; but I'd guess not. The standard signature confirmation only requires that somebody sign...though I would guess that it shouldn't be so broad as to include some random person walking past as the carrier approached. As mentioned earlier, there are options that limit the signature to the recipient or his designee (which generally requires written experience, in my experience with other carriers).

^ What I would like to know, is who this J Jose person is, & how this person was able to sign for a package not addressed to him/her! I was thinking of pasting my very lengthy back & forth with Monofletch, but out of consideration for what he personally sent to me, I decided against this.

Two things:

1. This package was insured for $50, for a knife that was probably valued at approximately $125-$135. The model is a ZT 0200 KW satin blade, plain edge (LNIB).

2. I told Eric on the phone this afternoon, that I have another LNIB ZT 0200 black blade, & that if we weren't able to jointly get a positive resolution, that I would be willing to send him this, & worst case scenario, be out of pocket for this loss/possible theft.

We (Eric & I), were hoping that tomorrow, with Eric tracking down his mail carrier & printing out a picture of the actual package, that he could ask her & get answers to who exactly this mystery person, J Jose is???

As per Monofletch's suggestion: I too plan on contacting my USPO from my end, in the a.m..

I know something will be figured out, personally I just want to go to the postal inspectors, my mail carrier and go from there

I appreciate your help, it's definitely good were tag teaming on this to hopefully get to the bottom of what happened

Don't stress too much on this Eric (I know easy for me to say- I'm not the one with a possibly thieving neighbor & the party who didn't get my end of the deal), it could've been a lot worse! Thankfully, this wasn't a high dollar knife. You have my word: if we don't get a satisfactory result, I'll send you that other black blade ZT 0200 I have, to replace this one.

Since the fellow signed it with a Spanish name, he probably is Spanish. That should at least limit the number of folks in your complex to a more workable number.
I hope they get the guy; I am not forgiving with theft.
Good luck, and has been mentioned, let the postal authorities do the chasing. They have the experience and the authority to back them up.

Two thumbs up to both parties in this case :thumbup:...in trying to help each other and finding a resolution!

I'd not only contact Postal Inspector, I'd get a hold of the postman about the package in the next couple of days while his memory is fresh.

The post office can use a tool called GEO location. When the package is scanned it leaves a GPS grid to the address (or point it was scanned) I doubt in this case it would narrow down to a specific apartment, but if it's the wrong apartments maybe we have something.

When I have a signature confirmation whoever answers the door can sign. But that is me, on my route, at the CORRECT door. I bet we discover a mis delivered package today. I am off work today or I'd be all over this one.

I'd also be talking to an apartment manager about J Jose!

Very nice of Kelama sending an alternative 0200. If its the one im thinking of its totally mint and awesome! Good on you Kelama.

whomever signed for the package im sure used a fake name. The postman knows whom he delivered the package too.

I would bet it wasn't the regular carrier.

This happened to me , first Calm down. My wife and I had ordered our daughter some things offline and they shipped them sig required. It was some clothes and some rarer items that were had a decent value to them. I'm tracking them one Saturday and it says out for delivery.

Well our mail runs a little early and no package, we also had a fill in carrier this day. So no big deal I thought but I actually asked the lady to double check the truck and she replied she was sure there was nothing for me in the truck.

Fast forward an hour and I check tracking again and boom package delivered signed for. This was on a Saturday and I couldn't get anybody to answer the phone until Monday.

Monday I finally get someone and at first they didn't act like they believed me. I called my local postmaster then the 1800 number BTW. After 10 minutes after we hang up phone rings it's local postmaster, someone st a corporate office and they had a 3 way call going.

They questioned me again , then patched the call to a 4th person the fI'll in mail carrier. She picked up I explained who I was as fid the 2 post office workers , then they told her the situation. She denied there was any packages that had to be signed for that day etc etc.

Well while we were all on the phone the checked some records and saw where she delivered or scanned a package for me or some piece of mail at 1 pm but it had no sig confirmation on it. At 108 she scanned a sig package , but it was not in my address block it was the next one up the road.

Not sure how or what they did but 2 days later my package was delivered, unopened and undamaged and we never saw that mail carrier again.

Update!! I went to the local post office and here's what I found out:

The mailman signed for it himself and within the same week he got fired. The postmaster called my new carrier in front of me and asked her when she get to the complex check all the boxes in case he put it some where else. He told me if nothing shows up get in touch with local law enforcement
