Im really pissed.I found a BM 630 Lg. Skirmish on Jerzee Devil about 10 days

ago.The knife was mailed on tues of this week.

The package(priority mail)came today But the box was Empty.I hadnt been

looknig for a Skirmish very long.I just got lucky when I found the knife on JD.

Luckely the knife was insured..if fact after the seller willcome out $$ ahead

once the insurance claim is paid in 30-60 days.

Im mad because it may be a long, longtime before I can find another 1.

I almost think that maybe whoever stole the knife at the usps may have had

had an idea what was inside the package. I already emailed the seller.

I hate when that happens!

It seems to happen alot with USPS, so much so that I try to ship out my products to my customers via UPS or FedEx, never have issues when using them.

My big issues is when I or a customer wants to use USPS when shipping out of the country, it almost always turns out bad. I don't like bad, doesn't sit well with me.

Sorry to hear about your knife, I hope another one pops up real soon for you.

I had the same thing happen to me a few months back with a USN Endura, The Priority box arrived and had the Spyderco box in it, but the knife was gone. The USPS box was slit down the side and re-taped.It had to of happened at the PO because the seller said he dropped it off to the clerk personally and I met the MM at the door.

Thankfully the seller was very cool about it and sent me a refund immediatly, and he got his refund about 30 days later.

I've read on here that getting an insurance claim from UPS is almost impossible. Not sure about FedEx.

YES YES and Yes. I had the experience from HELL getting my money refunded. Lots of hassle, time, and then waiting so blasted long. If you have infinite patience, and unlimited time to wait it might be alright. I still insure stuff, but have not had trouble for quite a while now. I Send everything Priority Mail.

ive had the exact opposite experience. i only ship usps priority insured.

I ship all my knives via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation to anywhere in the US and I have never had a problem. I have also sent a good number out of the country and some over seas including the UK via first class and every one has made it to the buyer. I use my name and return address, I do not use the company name on them. The other thing I would do if I was to send one insured and it came up missing lost or stolen is when i got the money back I would send it back to the buyer due to the fact they did not get what they wanted and there is no reason m for me to keep that money.Doug

Thought I'd share that I also purchase a Skirmish except mine was a Mini, off JD also.I just received it last week and it clearly had be tampered with. The sender place it in a small USPS flat rate priority box which was sealed and taped but not fully and place in a large Priority tyvex bag because it was not trackable or insurable to Canada. When I received it,I didn't happen to noticed that the bag had a clean 7 inch cut running lenghwise that had been taped with plain clear variety(not yellow customs tape)until I had cut open an end to reach inside.Inside the bag laid the clearly opened box which appeared that the tape was clearly cut.The box was not crush or squashed in any way but I'm thinking since it was insured the person just left it knowing I would make a claim.

I did look at the usps FAQ and it seems since nothing was stolen, nothing can be done.

I've had a knife come up missing I sent a guy once. He sent me pictures and the envelope was ripped to shreads and the knife was gone. Package was marked delivery w/o contents. I think it got caught in the machine that small packages go thru and that is what happened to the knife. I had signature confirmation on it but no insurance. Valuable lesson learned!

I don't understand why people just throw a knife in an envelope. Take the time to package it up properly in a sturdy box with lots of tape. Even if you use a priority box from USPS tape it up because they do get opened from rough handling.

I have a theory that I have developed after reading the many stories of knife theft by the USPS:

If you want it to be stolen--insure it!

I appears to me that insurance on the package is a big red flag telling thieves that there is something of value in the box.

I am not certain that this is actually the case, but it sure seems to be accurate.

EXACT same thing happened to me for my hinderer!!!

i dealt with 1badasshog on here and he told me he got an empty box

luckily it was insured and ive started with the PO about getting my money back!!

unscrupulous bastards!

USPS is very efficient in some ways, and very easy to find a PO, the rates are low and they offer insurance plus tracking.

BUT

Try to avoid the USPS if you are shipping a firearm or a weapon, knife or any such item. Yor package may be delayed or worse...

I once had to wait 43 days for them to find a Sako 22LR that I shipped with them (all forms filled out, insurance, receipts, and tracking too).

I knew something was wrong right away when the PO worker in upstate NY was contentious during the the shipment. The little comments and such should have warned me off but no, I just wanted to get it shipped and the USPS was going to save me from a long drive to a dealer.

Only when it was time to pay out the Insurance Claim did that package turn up at the door of my buyer.

What a drag!

I've had a couple things dissapear USPS and the useless people at the post off didn't provide any help. Plus some of them have really crappy atitudes and they don't want to be bothered with having to help me.

Does not always matter. The only time I have had something go missing was a very well boxed up shipment, but when I opened it only 3 of the 4 knives were there. The seller assured me that everything was sent (I had no reason to doubt his integrity), but now he was out a Manix, as was I. Odd that a single item disappeared, and that it was the most collectable knife of the set.

To the OP: are you 100% certain there was ever a knife in the box to begin with? Your post doesn't mention if there was clear evidence the package had been opened and tampered with.

I know a guy who sent another guy a 1,500 IOR scope that never arrived. The receiver who ia an FBI agent said it has been a year and still has not received any payment on his claim. Said they have been as high on the ladder with phone calls as you can get and still no scope or insured payment.

Both guys know each other and are Law enforcement. They said only 2% of claims are actually paid. How much truth there is to that percentage i don't know.

Are you aware that USPS does not deliver mail overseas? USPS tenders its mail to the destination country post for delivery. It is somewhat clueless not to recegnize this fact.

It would be advisable to familiarize oneself with the mailing rules before shipping firearms. There are no mailing restrictions agaist knives that are not switchblades, automatics, or gravity knives.
