valiantco darb crack??

This thread is back. I thought it was to be defragged but I'm not sure I see any changes.

Bwray- there are rules about Spam. I think your previous post with testimonials qualifies as ad copy. As a Gold member, you can sell blades in the exchange- though I think you might have to upgrade your membership if you are a company and the volume is large.

With all due respect munk, I think there is a difference between advertising and trying to temper fairly intense criticism of a product you represent. Valiant was being trashed on the basis of a single transaction, and I responded by showing that there are many other transactions that had quite a different outcome. If I can't defend Valiant shouldn't there be limits placed on criticism as well. It's got to be a two way street, thats all.

I guess my question is why is this in either the Cantina or the HI forum?
I really am confused (this is not a new condition...ask my wife). I thought the HI forum was for talking about HI knives, reviewing them, and making suggestions. I thought the cantina was a spill over for Bruise's poking-stick threads, poems, rants, smoke requests, etc.
This does not seem to have anything to really do with anything that is "Cantinaish". I can see threads about flashlights, cars, sleeping bags, and motorcycles as OT stuff that compliment a lot of our interests, but from the get-go this was thread about a cosmetic forging flaw on a product that has nothing to do with HI and MIGHT be considered a tiny bit of a competing product line.
I guess my question is why would you post something about Valiantco (which is very good. I have handled there products and intend to get me somethin' from Bill when he gets restocked;)) in either HI forum when the email has been answered by Valiant and it's not too hard to find a Valiant dealer that might be able to help you out? This is more than a passing mention, and probably deserves a spot in the general forums somewhere, like the reviews and testing spot. However, I am not an expert nor a diplomat nor a mod nor a person of great standing with many leatherbound books, just confused...as usual.

i shouldnt have posted this here really, should i? seems i have thrown a spark on the tinder. but as i say, i kept the valiantblade after all to work on for my own reasons, blah blah, it would have been a different story had i found HI earlier. yangdu would have just whipped up a really nice, hardened quality steel darb if i asked her nicely! she did a really good job (bura aswell i think. i think those are his kami marks on the blade) on the ESPADA sword. im serious..i dont even really look at valiant any more, and if i do its for blade ideas, or how a "ginunting" has a recurve like a kukri. im very obsessive about these things, as i know all who read these words are!

You're right Jake...it should have been moved to another forum entirely. I believe it was only nudged this far so that folks involved wouldn't lose sight of it.

Bill - You are not on a two way street. You are in a forum *owned* by Sparks and *rented* by HI. There are processes, rules, responsibilities and expectations. If a user spoke in defense of a company, it'd be viewed one way, by a seller, it's advertising. That's how Cougar saw it, that's how he judged it. Yes, it's his job to judge.

I read the Valiant response and although I would not like cosmetic flaws in a damascus blade which was purchased for its good looks, I can also see some logic in their response, use the blade and if it cracks we'll replace it free. I have bought several blades from them, I did return one which had a crack or forging flaw in it, and they replaced it free of charge. So I would have to say that in my dealings with them I have found their customer service to be outstanding. However, it may be that they have changed their policy and are becoming reluctant to replace blades based on cosmetic flaws. The cost of customs and shipping to the U.S. would start to add up if a lot customers started trying to return every blade that had a crack in it. For those of us who are not experienced in forging, I personally would have a hard time to distinguish a cosmetic forging flaw from a potentially serious one. Can any bladesmiths who may read this forum educate us about forging flaws, cracks, etc. What should be considered acceptable in terms of function, and which should not be acceptable in terms of cosmetics? I would venture that a great many perfectly functional forged blades would reveal flaws on close inspection, therefore a perfect flawless blade would accordingly merit a corresponding high price tag....

This thread really belongs in TGB&U; I'll move it.

Bwray, it was appropriate to respond to the questions about Valiantco. The trouble was you got a little carried away and went on to plug your own business. I don't think you intended to spam so I didn't ban you this time, but don't make a habit of it.

No, Bwray is a dealer and can't post ads on Bladeforums without a Dealer Membership. I believe he understands that. A number of dealers don't choose to advertise on Bladeforums but have gotten Gold or Platinum Memberships to help support this place and of course they're very welcome here.
