I just talked to the Vampire Gerbil. He had put his drugs (prescription) in his electronic gun safe and then it wouldn't work. He had to call a locksmith who cut a hole in the bottom. Dave was feeling a lot better now that he was able to take his pain medication. Whew!

I told Dave what we want to do for him. At first he said no, everyone has already done too much for him. I told him too bad, we want to do it and everyone has already committed money to take care of the first year of the Visiting Angels. So he said okay and that I could give Albert his phone number.

Dave says thank you from the very bottom of his heart - from himself and from the dogs. He does feel like he is a burden, but I told him no way and that if the roles were reversed, he would be helping out someone else. So he finally admitted that he could use the help - which is the first step!

We discussed his computer. He did locate it today but doesn't think he remembers how to hook it up. I told him one of the Visiting Angels would probably know how and that I would find a good but inexpensive dial-up service he could use. He brought up that he can't type well but I said too bad, everyone wants you back posting in the forums anyway. So he did say that it would be nice. So we're gonna work on getting his back online.

Now for the fun part!!!!! :D

SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!! Checks are preferred, but Paypal can be accepted. I guess I have a $500 a month limit on incoming funds - which is why checks would be better.

Mail your checks to:

For Paypal, my email address is:

1badgirl@innocent.com

If you are going to send via Paypal and you are a $60 contributor, you need to send $61.80 to cover the transaction fee.

I would also appreciate receiving an email from each contributor indicating if you would like to receive a PDF copy of the bank statements, contributions/expenditures spreadsheet, and invoices from Visiting Angels so that you can make sure I don't run off to South America with all the gazillions of dollars in contributions.

And somehow I need to be able to match up your Bladeforums ID with the name on your check or Paypal payment so that I can match the payments up with the names on my spreadsheet.

You guys should feel proud of what you are doing. I know I am proud of you.

I will go to town on Saturday and open up the checking account. It will be with Union Bank of California.

You truly are Guardian Angels.

Judy

P.S. If someone still would like to make a contribution, I won't turn it down. It means just that much more we can do for Vampire Gerbil.

Contributions are already being received via my Paypal account. Unfortunately, I am just a basic Paypal user and my funds limit is $500. With a few more contributions I will reach my limit for this month.

Ren the devils trailboss has offered to let folks send their contribution to his Paypal account and then he will send me a check.

I have emailed Ren and asked him to provide his Paypal information.

Checks still work just fine!!! :D

Thanks,

Judy

Judy, Check just made out...I will get it in the mail to you this afternoon. Thank You for giving us a way to give a good guy a helping hand...Ed.

I can send out a check tomorrow or Paypal today. It looks like the preference is by check so I'll get it out tomorrow morning.

Contact the nearest DAV service officer & ask for help. I am past Commander of a small DAV chapter in N.C. & personally got 3 men 100% service-connected [2,532 a momth ] & one attaboy [Non-service connected disability ] & it paid $ 940 monthly about 5 years back .

PM me your phone # & I'll call you on my 24/7 line & offer more tips.

Respectfully, Uncle Alan

Huh?????

What the heck is a DAV service officer? Sorry for the ignorance in this area, but in spite of living and working next to the world's largest Marine Base, I don't know anything about service related stuff.

Maybe, once we talk and I find the nearest DAV person, I could sweet-talk you into calling and you could talk Commander talk - which they would understand. Otherwise I'd just appear to be a dumb blonde. Well, okay, I'm not a blonde, but regarding this issue I feel my blonde roots sprouting rather quickly.

Whatcha think, Uncle Alan? ;) (unfortunately there is not smiley person batting her eyes coyly.)

Find the Gerbil's dd-214 [ real discharge service record] OR his military service # & PM me your phone # ASAP . Also need the name & post # of his VFW, Legion post etc,
. There is an outside possibility of him getting Aid & Attendance . I am powerless until I hear from you.

Time is of the essence !

ALL men are powerless until they hear from me.

I will see what I can find out about getting that info from Dave. Hopefully he knows where it is.

Uncle Alan,

I just called Dave - got the machine. I left him a detailed message about the information you need. I told him I would call him back later this evening or tomorrow.

With all of his moving, and the movers leaving some of his boxes outside, he may have to search for that information in his unpacked boxes.

Judy my check is in the mail. See if he remembers having his DD214 recorded at the county recorder's office when he got out. I have no clue where my orginal is, but that recorded copy has come in handy a couple of times.

I'm Sooo sorry to find out that you live in the stumps.;)

Well.......I think he moved to Pahrump from New Jersey, so if he did file it, it would probably be back in NJ.

Maybe I could enlist kamkazmoto or PhilL to help me out with this one. Could one of you give Dave a call and talk to him about this? If not, I'll try him again.

And Random..... don't be sorry... I love living out here. Life is slow and mostly peaceful and no hustle-bustle of the city. Every evening when I arrive home from work, I look around and see the quail and jack rabbits and cottontails hovering around the creosote bushes, just waiting for me to throw out the scratch feed for them. I am barely inside the gate before they are right there having dinner. It's awesome. One night I counted 19 rabbits feeding right outside my gate.

Dave doesn't need his DD214 (although it is helpful). What he needs to do is fill out VA Form 21-526 (available online at www.va.gov). The sooner he does that, the sooner the ball starts rolling.

However, before anyone gets Dave's hopes up, I feel obligated to point out that it is very uncertain whether his current medical problems can be shown to be related to his military service. Also, IIRC, Dave's a couple of years younger than me, which would mean that he probably doesn't have wartime service (as defined by 38 CFR § 3.2), a basic eligibility requirement for nonservice-connected pension benefits.
