Vampire Gerbil says Thanks and I say SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!

I was able to get to the bank this afternoon and open up the checking account. So I have already requested the withdrawal from Paypal for the funds that were deposited there.

Dave is on the account as the beneficiary, in case someone decides to take a contract out on my life because of the gazillions of $$$$ that will be in this account. So Dave would get the money to use even after I become an Angel with wings.

I did not order any checks because I plan to just do the payments via online banking so there was no reason to have checks laying around.

I should get the ATM/Debit card in about 5 days so that I can make deposits after hours.

So now we wait until Albert meets with Dave, and then I will probably have to sign something stating that I am responsible for making the payments.

Me? Responsible? Wow. Who woulda thunk it.

Anyway, just thought you might like to know where things are as of this evening. I'll have online access to the account after midnight when things get posted - well.... things like the $$$ to open the account.

I'll cross-post this update in the other forums threads.

Judy as of Saturday morning 10/7/06 I have an additional $250 in my paypal for VG which I will forward to you next week. I will wait to withdraw until end of next week. If that works for you..

Well.......I think he moved to Pahrump from New Jersey, so if he did file it, it would probably be back in NJ.

Maybe I could enlist kamkazmoto or PhilL to help me out with this one. Could one of you give Dave a call and talk to him about this? If not, I'll try him again.

And Random..... don't be sorry... I love living out here. Life is slow and mostly peaceful and no hustle-bustle of the city. Every evening when I arrive home from work, I look around and see the quail and jack rabbits and cottontails hovering around the creosote bushes, just waiting for me to throw out the scratch feed for them. I am barely inside the gate before they are right there having dinner. It's awesome. One night I counted 19 rabbits feeding right outside my gate.

Judy

Judy,

I will look into this for him. I have connections in the county courthouse. I will need his full name, address at the time of filing, his branch of service (reserve, active, or guard) and his SS#.

That works for me. With my initial deposit and the funds from my Paypal account, I have enough to cover the first couple of visits to VG. This is so great. :)

Okay.... I'll try and get that info from Dave tonight. He returned my call yesterday, but I was at work. And I did not get a chance to call him back last night because I got busy busy busy.

Thanks for steppin' up. Greatly appreciated.

Never mind. I just talked to Dave and he got a General Discharge and waived his rights to benefits. So he's not eligible for anything. Besides, he has already looked into this himself.

It was worth a try, but ain't gonna happen.:(

Never say never, ya can still contact the DAV or the American Legion and see what they can do, you would be suprised at the magic those guys can do knowing the in's and out's of the VA system.

Dave doesn't need his DD214 (although it is helpful). What he needs to do is fill out VA Form 21-526 (available online at www.va.gov). The sooner he does that, the sooner the ball starts rolling.

However, before anyone gets Dave's hopes up, I feel obligated to point out that it is very uncertain whether his current medical problems can be shown to be related to his military service. Also, IIRC, Dave's a couple of years younger than me, which would mean that he probably doesn't have wartime service (as defined by 38 CFR § 3.2), a basic eligibility requirement for nonservice-connected pension benefits.

Ouch, forgot about the time frame he served, but it's still worth a shot.

The DAV service officer can plow through the VA minefields & roadblocks because each one is trained & is a devoted disabled vet him/herself. If Gerbil has VFW or Legion membership/eligibility DAV can ride it into all VA records& save many steps toward helping Gerbil.
A little known statistic:
It usually takes a VA reply letter 2 weeks to get from outgoing mail to the USPO.

Past Commander DAV chapter 64 ,Northeast North Carolina . Am personally responsible for 3 - 100 percent SC & 1 non-SC awards.

Well, one of you guys is gonna need to contact Dave about this. I'm not getting anywhere with it. Anyone who wants to step up and volunteer to work on this thing and get in touch with Dave, PLEASE speak up.

You can PM kamkazmoto or PhilL to get Dave's phone number. I'm not in a position to give Dave's number out, especially since I just recently got it myself.

I'm taking care of the Visting Angels and the finances. I am delighted that Uncle Alan has another venue for getting Dave help and I truly hope that one of you guys will volunteer to talk to Dave about this DAV thing.

And here is a dining tidbit from the Vampire Gerbil:

When you get to the bottom of the peanut butter jar, add some chocolate syrup. Grab a spoon and and dig in. You will find that you have a delicious snack that tastes like a melted Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.Only from the mind of a demented rodent.

Do I need to start a new post about this DAV topic to get some help with this?

A general discharge is considered to be under honorable conditions. Only an other than honorable discharge would prevent Dave from receiving VA benefits.

uncle Alan -- I don't want to get in a pi$$ing contest in a thread meant to help Dave, but I take issue with your "statistic." I don't know where you got it, but I can assure you it is incorrect. How do I know? It's what I do for a living -- I work for the VA, in the business line responsible for processing compensation and pension claims.

Currently the Assistant Veterans Service Center Manager at the VA Regional Office in Roanoke, VA and responsible for ensuring that significantly more than 4 veterans have received their deserved benefits.

Great work & for pay too.

Seriously ,I was told about the s l o w m o t i o n by someone that retired from VA . He at one time worked in St Louis after the "burn ". I asked how much burned & he declined an answer. I was curious because during my 19 1/2 year fight for a legitimate claim ,I was told A--J had burned. Later I was helping a man whose name started with M & was told J -- Z burned.

As Ricky asked , " 'Splain this to me Lucy .... ".

Regards, Uncle [volunteer ] Alan
