In my opinion, the knife in question here is a fake. I've seen multiple counterfeit Jade PM2's sell in the last 2 weeks on the auction site (some for over $200). The one on there that ends later today is definitely a fake. The cutout in the scale for the lockbar release is shaped wrong. The jimping is wrong. Take a look at the mouth of the bug on the box, the black part is egg shaped at the top when it should be triangular. There's no foam in the box, (I guess a person could discard that) there's no desiccant pack. The list of inconsistencies is even longer.

Quick story. I recently introduced a 60 year old coworker of mine to Spyderco (now he's an addict). The other day he mentioned being paranoid about buying knives from the auction site because of the counterfeits. I have the ability to recognize a fake PM2, but now he wants some Caly 3 models. I've read that counterfeit Caly's and UKPK models exist. We shouldn't have to be paranoid buying a knife from the secondary market. This is a big problem.

It's fake. This can be told by the way the relief cut is made to give your finger access to the compression lock. In this example the shoulders at the top of this semi circle cut are too angular. On the real they are more rounded. The jimping is also a dead giveaway.

I brought this forgery to the attention of the Spyderco group on Facebook a couple weeks ago. I should have done the same here. Hate seeing people get burned.

op, where did you pick this up from? have you reported them or got your money back yet?

It is a fake for sure. I zoomed in and compared to my M4 jade and I see multiple things that are wrong.

This is very disturbing to see. That knife is absolutely fake and it's the first time I've seen an exclusive or sprint run faked, guess nothing is sacred anymore.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I was really excited to be getting my first PM2, I should've done more research first to be sure I was getting an authentic PM2. Bummer

That sucks HT.
Here's mine.......if you can, pick one of these up brother!! Amazing knife......just amazing!!

No one's fault but my own. I'm newish to the world of collecting knives etc. To the untrained eye (myself) I never would have noticed those differences between the fake and real PM2's. Obviously it would have helped to have an authentic PM2 to do a side by side comparison at the time. I needed to be more diligent researching the knife before pulling the trigger on the trade. Lesson learned.

Can you return it? I really hope Sal (Spyderco) stop these people from doing this.

I acquired it as part of a trade, I've had this fake PM2 for a while now. I knew there were knock offs before trading for the knife, I just ignorantly thought there were no fake Exclusives/Sprints.

I'm handling that situation outside of this forum. I don't believe he's a member here, could be wrong.

Same here, didn't know they were cloning these also :thumbdn:
