In September noted in Knives Wanted a request for a Spyderco Moran.

I e-mailed the person, sent the knife expressmail ($24 to Czech Republic) and sent tracking #,asked if it were possible to send some older Communist German or Czech coins, value not critical- just to have some relic of the old cold war..

She received it 9/30 and e-mailed me to that effect. :D

Had not heard from her for months- sent e-mails-no replies. :( Finally felt "had" and sent frank e-mail stating that I felt ripped off.

Got very indignent reply that coins sent month ago (I usually advise anyone I send something to of sending and tracking #)- NEVER had a word about it  and advised she was sending the Moran back. I told her to keep it as I am disgusted with the whole business.

Got another e-mail that I "insulted " her  and that she was returning the Moran.

Needless to say, it never came back.

Should she be considered as BAD or UGLY :barf: ?

I should hate for fellow BFers to be so taken.

I think the best way to handle a member who rips-off another member on a transaction would be to post that persons name and e-mail. This way everybody will know that this person cannot be trusted and should not deal with them.

OTOH, could be that both got intercepted by less then honest post employees.

I think I know who is involved only because I think I remember the posts, etc.

That said, it must be a misunderstanding of some sort. The individual that I am thinking about has quite a presence on the web here and I can't imagine for a second that there would be any intentional chenanigans...

I have noticed a bit of a slow down in that individual's online activity of late...

THAT said, I am sorry that you have to deal with this, the situation certainly is crap, and quite ugly, regardless of the cause or fault. A simple email or two sure would have gone a long way, wouldn't it. That individual did drop the ball if they did not keep you informed of goings on.

People wonder sometimes but this is a good reason why so many of us deal only within the States...

ps- Frankly, I think it shows class on your part not to drag the person's name through the mud until all the facts are out and clear...

I've traded colectibles online literally hundreds of times (i have almost 150 referals and i traded multuiple times with quite some of those folks) and in 4-5 years only encountered problems with mail service twice - once registered mail got totally lost and the sender ultimately claimed insurance and recieved it (and insuled me in the process despite the fact that postal records clearly showed his shipment - which was tracked all the way - never even made it across the big pond, as if i was to blame for incompetence of the mail service overseas) and once registered mail got ripped apart at the post office where it as being sent from, a postal clerk stole the contents and sealed the mail inside one of those official plastic bags, againthe sender claimed insurance and got it all back (and was very cooperative, albeit slightly suspicious until i actually scanned the bag and the documents i had to fill out because i refused to accept what was clearly damaged mail, missing its contents).

Long story short, 2/300 at the very least - and that's incoming mail only. Not a single bad case with outgoing mail so the actual figure shoudl be 2/600+. Now how likely is it that two mails from same person got stiolen/lost  Sure, people do get bitten by sharks and struck by lightning but coupled with insults and all, hardly sounds like a coincidence.

jhillas, could it be that that individual (if we're talking aboutb the same person, that is) became less active after a reference to Kysa-like behavior was brought up ? Then again, it could merely be a coincidence. Again.

Not to call either parties (that includes if there are ultimately more than two involved) rep into question just yet. However, Surgiblade, did you happen to retain the original as well as offensive e-mails from the party in question? It does rather appear suspicious that the party in Eastern Europe would have had that much difficulty with a shipment. I mean, after all, it's not quite the curtain of mystery that it once was.

All the very best and may this conclude satisfactorily.

faramir,

I don't know. (I also don't know what kysa-like means but I think I have an idea) I just did a search and the person that I'm thinking about has posted recently. It never occurred to me until I first read this post but then it dawned on me that I have not seen that individual around as much. Now that I think of it, it could be that I have not frequented the threads that the person does.

I think its time for me to shut up and be glad I did not mention any names, because it could just be that I'm talking about someone else entirely. I hope so. :footinmou

I truly also hope that this gets resolved.

I think that both individuals here are victims of the Czech mail system. Less than reliable. This is one reason that I never ship over borders..its sad..hope it works out..

Thanks- I really appreciate the feedback- I might add that this is the FIRST snafu I have had on BF with many trades, buys and sells done. I usually trust FEDEX for USA and e-mail the airbill when it goes out. Use expressmail for Europe recently as FEDEX has become more complicated.Have had 8 forum buys, sells and trades go without a hitch in the last 5 weeks. At my age I refuse to let anything less than a full on disaster get the blood pressure up-but am disappointed.

HAve a VERY SAFE and HAppy Holiday !!

   JFYI I shipped over 750 packages to US this year (the same number in 2003 and 2002) and only few got lost. But all because of USPS (I had them tracked). Once the package is sent it takes only one day and it is in the airplane to US. Then it takes somewhere between 7-180 days to deliver (yes, one package travelled over 6 months), few of them over 6 weeks. Our postal system is far from perfect but it is not that bad.

I feel it is just a misunderstanding. Even if the package was sent registered there is no tracking number (you cannot search for it online) - the same is with shipments from US.
Since you felt cheated (and she shipped the coins, that can be now in someone elses collection) she wanted to return the knife to you so you do not have to feel that way ... How else would you want to solve the problem?

The whole story sounds quite strange, and, to be honest, it stinks. If the person in the Eastern Europe sent something to you, s/he should have some proof of it (like postal receipts, etc... that can be scanned and sent by e-mail as confirmation). The postal system in ex-socialist countries remains rather clumsy and bureaucratic, but they do not lose parcels intentionally. Sorry about your Moran.

She had the knife in hand. It had not been paid for in any way.It is her responsability to make the deal good.I don't give a $hit if she sends a thousand coins or a thousand knives back if surgiblade does not receive his goods it is not a done deal.PERIOD.
Get it guys.
I don't care if she was on the friggin moon.
Post the bitch's name.

I think I have her identity figured out. Let's see...Czech girl, Spyderco knives and thought of by many to be a guy pretending to be a girl (that last part comes from the Kysa reference and having followed quite a few threads in W&C about her). There is only one person that comes to mind.

The alleged angry reaction from the Eastern European party coupled with the lack of any response from the Eastern European party pretty much equates to GUILT. This is pretty typical and universal behaviour of female and/or male parties regardless of their "point of origin".

I would next expect some type of "I'm a girl/different national, so why are you picking on me? Don't you understand that you are required to treat me special?" response. That is, if and when it comes.

Has surgiblade posted the request for follow-up in the Spyderco section? This other party may not be aware of surgiblade's current sitrep.

All the best result with this,

Stuart

I did some searching....hmmm...this is really puzzling. if the person is who I think she is, she is not a man masquerading as a girl (I think there are some photos online) and has a very good rep on the spyderco forums....

hope both of you can work things out.

I don't think she is a guy either, but that is the opinion of more than one of the denizens of W&C (not that this has anything to do with the situation at hand).
