Vest pocket carry ?

I probably should have passed on that first vest and held out for the right one to come along ( I'll still wear it though), because I just found the right one.
It's the exact color and style I had in mind, and while it's not American made I figured If anyone knows wool it's the Irish. Especially pure virgin wool or " 100% new wool " as they call it.
Someone probably removed the tags and couldn't return it or something, it's pretty much brand new and I payed less than half the Jimmy hourihand website sells it for.
That’s a good looking vest, ya like that for sure!

I just got the first vest, and well I'm glad I have another coming.
Based on first impressions I believe I would likely not be a fan were this to be my only experience with them.

I can see that vest pocket carry is going to be great, but these particular pockets are not the most ideal.

Got the Filson moleskin vest liner. The handwarmer pockets are big enough to hold a knife up to 6.5" probably in each pocket (as long as you're not jumping up and down.) Vest is larger than the stated measurements, like the size large is listed as fitting waist size up to 39.5" but actually fits up to 44". Very comfortable but pricey. No inside pocket unfortunately.

I like vests For the extra pockets In warmer weather a light waiscoat with 3 pockets, alox sak fits in top pocket or most smaller saks. In the cold have a couple of leather 1s and my favorite is my sheepskin vest.

As our winters usually mild (lows in the upper 20's to low 30's and highs typically mid 40's) I find either a flannel or poplin shirt and a wool vest to be perfect when hunting on your feet. Check out a Filson wool vest - mine is about 30 years old and looks new - they are thick wool and hold their shape beautifully. For canvas gear I can't say enough about Filson either - it is durable - all my bird coats, vests, pants, chaps are Filson US made. OH

I've been thinking about this for awhile. I love my vests. It's that extra warmth without getting you hot when the weather starts to turn cool. When it gets cold that extra layer without bunching up your arms. My wife always has her "Mom Vest" on just for the extra pockets that moms need. If you need extra pocket space LL Beans has a couple along with Orvis and Filson. Also Johnson Woolen Mills in Vermont. Most of them carry wool or canvas. Speaking of canvas vests when I was young I used to work in produce we all wore brightly colored vests. All the same design. we carried note pads, pencils, tags and yes a knife or two. they kept us warm even in the summer. Yes warm in the summer running inland out of coolers would cool you down pretty quick.
So I guess I highly recommend a good vest or two. Everyone should have one:D

I have already found that vests are definitely for me and it's only been 2 days.
A knife and my flashlight right there in a very conveniently placed easy access pocket is a great thing.
Going into this my intention was not for extra pockets, it was for the particular pocket position offered.
I've got enough pockets in the winter, and barely use half of them.

The other vest I've got coming seems to have slightly smaller pockets, but they are a tad lower and should be even more convenient to access.

I have a fishing vest with 22 pockets and 2 or 3 things in in each one. I was telling someone that if I had 1 more pocket, I would have enough stuff to run away from home. My wife overheard that and said, “I’ll sew another pocket on for you.”

You wife sounds pretty sporty, mine would throw out the same kind of remark! Hope you get to stay! OH

I really like my vest, it’s a Carhart canvas duck, quilted insulation, company logo with hand warmer slash style exterior pockets, interior pockets for my phones, flashlight and pen. Yes, I said two phones, one company on call phone and my personal phone. It is a pain to keep up with both of them but thank goodness for extra pockets! When it’s really cold I have a large ranch work coat with 8 exterior pockets and three interior pockets. Lol.
When summer rolls around I miss the extra pockets but I have a waste belt and edc tool pouch to carry all my extra stuff at work. I’m thinking about getting a lighter cooler summer vest if I can find one suitable. It has to be either 100% cotton or flame retardant material as I work at a natural gas compressor station.

I remember reading someplace a long time back, that the cowboys wore vests for that very reason; to carry stuff that would overload pants pockets. Things like pocket knives, tobacco pouch, pencil and paper for tally counts, watch. A vest is a handy holder of extra pockets for all kinds of stuff. John Moses Browning invented the 1908 .25acp 'vest pocket pistol' for that express purpose.

You could be onto something!

Yup, a friend and I wear a vest at work(carpentry/ remodeling) for just that reason! Extra easy access pockets, that don't drag yer britches down! Mine is a denim jacket with the sleeves cut off, comfortable and I like the pocket arrangement, (I have another one like it in black that I've worn as a semi-dressy vest for a decade). My boss has two, that he had his wife make him in super light leather with the exact pockets he needs for phone knife and keys, few other things.

For me vest pocket knives tend to be bigger knives than I'd otherwise carry...

I've a black leather western style dress vest I wear off and on, it usually gets a Cheetah, or my 4.5" Queen swing guard dropped into it. Big and flat they disappear in the long low side pockets.

All of this talk of vests makes me wonder if someone is daring enough, or fashion-impaired enough, to wear a vest with a work kilt. I am not volunteering for this, just wondering. :p

I don't even like walking around the house in just boxers.

So are you saying you like extra clothes or that you like wearing your skivvies around the house? If the latter, please keep the blinds closed!! :D I cannot imagine going commando with a work kilt.
