VG-10 vs. S30V

I've taken blades down to 7-8 degrees per side and only had issues when scraping and cutting light metal such as light gauge copper wire.

These blades were not vg10 nor s30v, but for most edc uses, it not as outrageous as it might sound.

It would probably depend on use and user skill. I would take loss of performance over edge damage anytime.

So what's densglass?

Thats the beauty of a trapper slipjoint. 7 dps edge on tbe clip blade, 20 dps edge on the spey. Honestly, short of cutting metal, even my thinnest blades had no problems with damage. This was a peanut sharpened flat against a hand stretched sanding belt and polished to 1200 grit and stropped. Cut everything including densglass with no damage.

Yeh, that must be the "YMMV" thing. :)

I have several knives in both, and prefer vg10. Along the lines of the sharpening angles.....how long does it take to put on a 7 degree angle?? Can you post a picture of that please?

keen edges get dulled "by the wind" meaning if stored for long. well i just discovered that my s30v millie is still working sharp whereas the vg-10 delica was most noticeably duller. i haven't touched up both since God-knows-when. but it could be due to the sharpening. the delica has 13 degrees per side while the millie has a double-bevel (10 and 20 degrees per.)

It didnt take too long, but this is on a slipjoint folder with a very thin blade, full flat ground from 1/16" to about 0.01" just behind the edge bevel. For a picture, go to my youtube channel, me2bfc.
