So I've discovered that the Victorinox Cadet is my favorite pocket knife. Slim, durable, thin blade and handy tool selection. My question is, does the bend in the blade where they made room for the fil affect the blade's performance in any way? In my experience it hasn't but I always have to find a problem with something and for some reason the bent blade bothers me.

None whatsoever

Probably not, and This bend you're referring to is called crinking which is the process of bending blades to fit next to each other. My recruit doesn't have this problem because it has a secondary blade which is thinner than the nail tool, but also because they've ground the blades offset on opposing sides so they don't have to bend them.
If the crinked blade bothers you , check out the 15$ recruit.
It's not very much thicker than the cadet, the blades aren't crinked, and it offers the toothpick & tweezers.
If you just really have to have the nail tool instead of a secondary blade then you'll probably just have to deal with having a crinked blade and your cadet.

Yeah I think I'll stick with my cadet, I really like the alox scales. Thank you though! I really don't think it makes a difference, I'm just wanting to see what other people think about it lol

I once did a 30 day challenge with a Cadet. I found that could do almost everything I ever wanted to do with that little guy. I also found that it is a little to small for my liking. I really liked the size of the Pioneer better.

Blades are easier to open on the Cadet, though; that's why I keep it around.

I actually really like the file, it makes a good small phillips driver and is a good all purpose poker/prodder, which is handy for edc. I'm curious about the pioneer though, I want to handle one and see how big it is because I handled a farmer once and I felt like it was too big

The Cadet Alox is in my pocket 4/5 days at work.

It's pretty much the perfect edc knife. Smaller and thinner than pretty much any modern folder out there, yet it has a great blade AND other tools!!! It's also non threatening among "civilized" company. What's not to love?

I've also found that fit and finish is much better than expected at this price point.

Let's face it, Cadet alox is FULL of win.

The Farmer is exactly like the Pioneer except it is a little thicker because of the saw.

Why did you feel the Pioneer was too big?
I haven't handled a pioneer, it was the farmer that I handled, and I thought it was too big because it was so thick, which I assume will not be such an issue with the pioneer. That's why I want to handle one and see if I like it

Yeah my thoughts exactly, it's pretty much perfect; for me anyway

I like the Alox Cadet, but I personally like the Pioneer much better. It doesn't feel like too much of a load in the pocket (for me), and it's more comfortable in my hand during use than the Cadet. I also like the Pioneer's awl over the Cadet's nail file.

I also have a Pioneer X and a Farmer, but find them just one layer too chunky for in-pocket carry (again, for me).

Jim

Cadet was my main pocket carry for several years. I still take it with me every day but it now resides in my laptop bag.

To each their own. I find the Farmer to be about the perfect size in my hand. The cadet is a little small and the Pioneer is a little thin. The Pioneer X may be just right but I hate the scissors Victorinox puts in the Pioneer X.
