A fellow forum member sent this to me. It's a pretty powerful statement in my opinion and well worth the watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

Since RAT Cutlery feels every American owes every veteran for the freedoms they posses, I thought it was relevant to post it here.

dude isn't speaking for every veteran, though. more and more overt political content slipping into every forum here at BF has been keeping me away from BF more and more, and since I'm not a fan of divisiveness from any sector, informing my knife and gear purchases.

Well, this is probably where we make folks mad on our little spot on BladeForums, but we support our military (and their actions) 100 percent. Always have, always will. I know there are veterans out there that don't support some things and they have a right to, but we also have a right to publicly support what we believe, regardless if it has support from the masses. And if it ever gets to where we can't wave the flag here at BladeForums, we will move on. And I say that with respect, not trying to start a debate or conflict. Everyone has the right to their opinion, including knife companies and their owners. We welcome everyone here but if they don't like our politics then we make no apologies.

Jeff

I saw the video before and it is just as poignant now as it was the first time I saw it.

and since I'm not a fan of divisiveness from any sector, informing my knife and gear purchases.

So, do you feel that there should be only one opinion that we all must share?

no, but I feel that opinions have their place. I know that it's not going to break the heart of anyone at rat if I quit buying their knives because they feel the need to get preachy, either, just makes me sad.

and jeff, there is a vast difference between supporting the military and supporting a political platform. what's been going on in this country lately isn't patriotism, it's hatemongering and nationalism. good luck with everything.

Not getting preachy here. We welcome all opinions. Always have. I just thought it was a good good piece that the soldier did. Funny thing is I'm not even voting for McCain. I don't believe in his policies. I believe less in Obama's policies. I'm voting for Bob Barr since Libertarians are about as close to my own principles as I can find in the political arena. And for those who say I'm throwing my vote away and that I should vote the lesser of two evils (McCain) I answer with the following quote from Ayn Rand: "The lesser of two evils is still evil." I have always been principled. We run our company the same way. We don't preach that someone is wrong but we do feel we have a right to publicly state what we believe.

I don't know, din. The topic is clearly labeled as political so if you dislike the notion of someone posting political stuff, why even look at it?

My sentiments exactly. I am sick and tired of voting for the same old nonsense every election cycle. Although I don't agree with everything Pat Buchanan says, I do agree with him when he says that the democrats and republicans are the right and left wings of the same bird of prey. I'm tired of "the lesser of two evils" argument.

While I have a deep admiration and respect for what John McCain endured as a POW, I don't agree with most of his political views. I despise people that make fun of him because he cannot lift his arms a certain way or to a certain height, I despise people who call into C-SPAN, and there have been a lot of them, who say he was stupid for being captured, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum. I've told more than one person, face to face, "If you had your wrists bound behind you and then they tied your elbow joints together and beat the shit out of you, you wouldn't be able to lift your arms up well, either."

The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

But I cannot support his policies.

Amen Don! My sentiments exactly! John McCain is a hero but I won't vote for him.

IN F@%$^&G DEED!!!!! That guy has no idea what Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. For those of you that don' t know.... those are The Seven Army Values.

Great video Jeff, thanks for sharing man…

Same here Jeff , that is exactly how I feel, I’m actually voting the constitutional party Chuck Baldwin… Like you, I can’t bring myself to vote for the lesser of two evils either.. McCain is a hero and he has my respect, but not my vote , as for Obama his anti gun stance alone pretty much tells me all I need to know about him and the direction he will take the nation…

John,

Mr. Obama doesn't even cover his heart with his hand during the singing of the National Anthem. He aparently doesn't care for the song and doesn't want to offend those in other countries who may see the American Flag as a symbol of opression. Do we really want a president that doesn't even believe in our flag, or feel that it's necessary to honor those that died to protect it? Where's John Wayne when ya need him?

Well Jeff, it's your forum here, and if you want to allow political stuff on it, it's your choice.
Personally, it doesn't bother me or affect my choice to buy RAT knives.

But since you did allow it. . .

I vote principles, not party or pocketbook.

One reason I'll probably never vote libertarian is because they, in general, support abortion. Voting for the right to murder is the greater of evils. Not pointing fingers at you, just making a point that even if I support most of their ideals, that's a dealbreaker for me.

Fact is, we don't even follow the Constitutional guidelines for the process anymore.
Electoral college what?
Constitutionally, the one with the most votes is president, the runner up is vice president. There is no picking of the vice president by the candidates. Yet we've done it for how long?

Hello everyone! I check this forum daily, but have never posted here. I, like you all, appreciate quality cutlery. Personally, I really want one or two of the Izula's when they come out! Anyway, another company I like is Ranger knives, and coincidentally, I posted the link to this video on Justin's forum today. I for one appreciate that some knife manufacturers are cool with allowing some political posts. I watched this video a couple of times last night and it just reinforced the deep respect I have for those who are willing to put their lives on the line for our country. Great video!

Cpl,

I have a lot of respect for anyone who votes their principles and not the party, so your input is very much welcome here. As for the Constitution, we have strayed so far from it that it seems all that happens now is it gets paid lip service by those wanting to be elected. These politicians can't even bring themselves to call this country what it really is: a Constitutional Republic. Instead they call it a Democracy, in other words mob rule.

Jeff i couldn't agree more with the video and what you have said on here im tired of political correctness and hurt feelings. i commend you for stating your opinion and standing by it.

Amen to that. Concerning the Constitution, it is my understanding that one of the main candidates considers it a road block or hinderence to things the government "should" do. Uhh... does he realize that the Constitution is supposed to keep the government from doing to much?! As far as I know, the Constitution is based on negative rights, that is rights we have that nobody can interfere with, including the government. That means the government is there to protect our rights, not give us hand outs. Anyway, for those who may not know, ancient philosophers such as Aristotle feared true democracy because they considered it mob rule. What's interesting is that historically, democracy has degenerated into monarchies with the first step being an elected leader widely appealing to the low income class. We'll see what happens I guess.

I usually don't put out too much of my political views simply because politics sometimes hurts feelings and it shouldn't be that way. Some folks can't accept differing opinions from their own and they go away mad. I pretty much can take anyone's opinion and accept it for what it is: an opinion. My feelings about a person as an individual doesn't revolve around their political or religious views. It's how they treat me (and me alone) that is the only determining factor of whether I'm willing to associate myself with them or not.

I have met people that have the exact same political views as myself that I can't stand to be in the room with for 5 minutes. I have also met pure liberal Socialist (direct opposite of myself) that I don't agree with any of their views but love to be around them because they are genuinely good people.

In the end, I think people try to read too much into someone by their political or religious views. I'm guilty of that as well even though I make an effort to look past it. For a few years now I've been part of a small group that discusses world politics between ourselves. Some of the folks in this group are well-known folks, some are highly educated economists and such, and some are just like me: a good ol' boy redneck that's put forth a lot of "ground truth" by exposing myself to world affairs. All of us have differing views on everything from abortion to gun rights to the price of a barrel of oil, but the one thing that keeps us all talking is the fact that we have learned that we can learn from everyone, and that our opinions sometimes prove to be wrong. So, I think we have to widen our margins a little once we go public with a view. I'm not saying we should compromise what's right, but I am saying we should be respectful. Simple.
