Viper Fortis

Just received my CF/satin and it's going back due to almost nonexistent detent and severe lock stick.

1st knife I've ever bought and returned.

Decided to pull the trigger and ordered the stonewashed CF.
I was thinking about buying another CRK carbon insingo or Inkosi.( had a large carbon Inkosi in the cart) but I've had three Sebenzas but I keep selling them. I honestly think they are all they are hyped to be but whenever I want a new pistol ...gone .
I think for $200 it's worth trying one of these Vipers. I tend keep anything under $250

Just got my 2nd copy of the satin and titanium version... This one is perfect! Good detent, and nice grind. The 1st one I received had a tip that was rounded off, probably when the spine was crowned. I am REALLY liking this knife thus far! It's light, has a blade geometry that flat out CUTS, and build quality I frankly can't fathom for the price I paid. This is getting close to what I would consider an ideal titanium frame lock for EDC, at least for me anyway. This knife came with a SCARY sharp edge as well, bravo Viper for properly finishing the blade and getting it to me ready to do work. For those that care, I checked the thickness behind the edge, it's pretty uniform for most of the length at 0.020 in.

Ok, I just had to resurrect this thread to give an update on my Fortis. I found myself home early today and it was time to tackle the boxes that had built up in the garage since last summer. We're talking about a veritable s-ton of boxes here. The boxes in question housed a bed, a couch, a piano, and numerous kitchen appliances. Basically all of the wedding gifts we got last summer, well their boxes had accumulated and now they had to go. Knife fiend's paradise if ever there was one:

So I decided to grab my Fortis, which I hadn't used much at all since sharpening it on the Wicked Edge (which is documented earlier in this thread). And I also grabbed what is my usual go-to for lots of dirty/hard cutting, my S110V Spyderco Manix. I figured I'd cut for a while with the Fortis to see how it performed and probably need to switch to the Manix once the Fortis's edge started to degrade a bit and the thicker blade started to give too much drag for effective cardboard cutting. Well let me tell you, that is not how things went:

The Fortis did it all. Never once did I detect the cutting performance degrading throughout the process. It would drag a bit when tape residue built up on the blade, but a little WD40 and it was a laser beam again. I cut down everything in the garage using nothing else. I was frankly astounded by the performance of the M390. When I was done it wasn't hair-shaving sharp to be sure, but it still cut phone book paper. A few minutes of easy stropping on a Flexx Strop and we were back to this:

In the end it was just as discernibly sharp as when I began. Not changes to the lockup, action, etc. This knife can perform, folks. I'm pretty set on grabbing a G10 one to add to the collection after this. I can't help it. Best bang for your buck out there!

Well, dangit. I couldn't help myself. The CF versions came back in stock and I nabbed one in the satin finish. Looking forward to seeing the different finish and the lighter weight.

The addiction is real.

I started a new position last month so I celebrated with a new knife. I got the green G-10 version. No problems at all. Fast, sure, thwak flipper!
The scale was marked up like it had been carried some but I use 90% of my knives so no biggie. It's smaller than pictures lead me to think. I love it. I'd get another.

Here's that CF Viper Fortis to go with my TI version. Sharpened up real nice at 15 degrees per side!

I received my Ti version about a week ago. Perfect example, IMO.

Detent isn't as strong as some of my flippers, but is at a good compromise to use the thumb hole. I did need to flush out the pivot before it flipped to it's full potential, though.

I can snag my finger on the tip if I try to, but it hasn't posed a problem with carrying it (like my WE 615).

F&F is almost perfect (one small spot of a wonky grind). Definitely a steal for the price.

Sorry to resurrect an older post. Ordered one after reading this forum. Mine came ti stonewashed in perfect condition. Centering is great and I can't feel the tip with my finger. Deployment is not bad but I think if I clean grease it, it should be as good as my zt. Decent is good imho. I was afraid it might be a good knife, now I need to get cf and orange.

I have a CF version up for sale in the exchange. Centered, great flipper, solid. If you're interested. :D
