Thanks for this tip. I am having a problem with the tip of my first knife thinning out also and because of the thinning issue its about a half inch shorter.
 
Like several others have mentioned, that idea you have for the tip is awesome! I am working on my first knife and as of today, the blade has shrunk dimensionally as I keep messing up the tip. It's very disheartening when you spend so much time and effort to make your bevels smooth, crisp and even and then the tip squares off. I suppose it's something I will get a feel for eventually but it's very frustrating. Thanks for posting this. From the looks of what you do, I think that may work for me too.

Met you at the OKCA show last year - hope to see you this year. Where did you get those Neat clamps? I am always looking for new and better clamps.
