W.R. Case & Tony Bose Collaboration 2009 - Norfolk Wharncliffe

Just got my norfolk today, and boy is it beautiful! One issue though: The smaller blade has enough play in it when the blades are closed that it can be pushed to rest against both the liner and the other blade without being held there. Just a little nudge and it touches both sides and stays there. Is this normal factory tolerance or should I send it back? Do you think this is fixable?

Once this gets sorted out, I have a new favorite EDC that will be in my pocket for a long time to come. It would take something pretty spectacular to boot this one from my pocket...

EDIT: on further inspection, both blades have a little play and can contact each other when closed

Didn't mean to pin you down to a specific seller. I was just wondering if you bought the piece from an individual, auction site, walk in
store or online retailer. Thanks Mr. Blues.

Oh, gotcha. It was new in box from an authorized case dealer, not from an individual or auction site.

Don't think that's "normal". Mine certainly isn't that way, and comments I've seen don't indicate its a norm.
If I'm correct, and understand what you're seeing correctly, it might be worth a call to Case and a trip back to them for some tinkering. You could return it to the dealer for exchange (if he has more), but it's probably easiest to just send it directly to Case.
Case has excellent customer service.

I'm sort of surprised there are still Ebony Norfolks in dealer hands. But then I was happily surprised today when I finally found an Ebony Tribal Spear on a dealer site. Thought I had missed the boat on that one.

I know of an Ebony Norfolk that's still out there. But I'm not telling! I want that little pretty for my ownself. Can't quite swing it at the moment, unfortunately.

I've got the Norfolk in ebony also and there is no blade movement whatsoever on mine. Case should be able to make it right for you.

Thanks guys. Back to Case it goes, and have another one on the way to give to my dad for the holidays.

This is a disease, isn't it?

OK, finally got some pics. You can clearly see the small blade being pushed to the side touching the liner, and the gap in between the blade and the liner near the pivot. The large blade can also be moved laterally just not as much:

Am I being too picky? Or should I send it back for replacement? In open position, if I hold the blades and shake the knife there appears to be no wobble. At half open position for the large blade, when I hold it and shake the knife there is some wobble.

It's certainly your call, but I don't think you're being too picky. If it was a regular run Case I might be inclined to say just use it and don't worrry about it, but at the price point of a Case/Bose collab. it's reasonable to hold things to a higher standard.

Got me curious, so I pulled mine out to see if I had overlooked anything. Like Peregrin's mine is rock solid and absolutely no blade movement in any position.

If it were me, I'd send it to Case, should be an easy adjustment and not require any replacement.

Really a matter of if you want the fairly minor hassle of sending it back. Since you say you plan to EDC it and there is no wobble when open, an argument could be made for just letting it go and see if it bothers you or gets worse later. Really no rush with the Case warranty:
The Case Limited Lifetime Warranty
We warrant each and every Case knife to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the life of the owner, and we will repair or replace with a new Case knife,

I know this is an old thread but I pulled the trigger this week on a chestnut Norfolk before they are hard to find. Does anyone have a chestnut that they can show some pictures?

Hi Tomsch,

This photo has been posted here once before so I hope nobody minds if I post it again. This photo should give you a look at three different Norfolks, for the sake of comparison. And for the record, I love this pattern very much, in case it wasn't already obvious ;)

You appear to have an exceptionally fine example of chestnut peachseed jigged bone there. This was a pattern I really wanted to get, but unfortunately have had more vital things my money has had to go toward for a while now. Sigh. :(

Of the three versions I own, this one gets the most pocket time. There is a certain richness in its colouring that really appeals to me. Plus I'm "saving" the ebony one while I try to wear out the other two

There are still chestnut examples out there! You still have time if the fancy strikes again. ;)

Thanks for the picture! Really shows the look of each of the three materials. Mine should arrive this week and I'll snap some pictures of the coloring.
