Want a PM2 but...

The PM2 is a real nice knife. You will not be disappointed, unless the size is too much. Don't expect a pocket sized knife, here. For that I would buy a Delica. But the PM2 is all around the nicest knife you will own from anyone at any price.

I was thinking maybe a delica or endura first just to get started. I'm also leery on the PM2 because I want the digi camo and dlc blade, but I am worried that I won't get a dark camo and it'll be to yellow.

The pattern and colors of the digi cam is what has turned me away from it. At least not being able to see it before. I ended up getting the black with satin. I was obsessed with the PM2 when I was looking, and just took the plunge when I ran across one at a gun show. Never looked back or regretted my purchase.

Love the PM2.

The PM2 is overrated IMO for civilian use. Most people that praise it so highly don't even really use the knife as it was designed and intended for. They use it as a letter opener and pick their nails. IMO its not even a EDC or a pocket knife. Its size alone in my book is a work knife not something I'd EDC. The PM2 is something I'd carry when I had a intended use and purpose for. A good EDC to me is something that can be conveniently carried and perform universal tasks. Which is a delica.

I frequently carry a PM2 to my office, and was carrying one of mine yesterday. It is actually the smallest knife in my EDC rotation.

The PM2 is a good knife for EDC. It is thin and light, and easy to operate. The blade hole makes it a bit tall but not too bad.

I put off buying a PM2 until I already had a dozen other Spyders on the shelf. But now that I have it, I can't seem to put it down. It really is a great design like none other that I've had (somewhere between 200-300 in collection).

So my advice now to others is just buy the PM2 first, then add other models as you see fit. The PM2 blade is not narrow, but no where near the fat leaf shapes...right in the middle. The the locking system is both functional and fun to play with. ;) In fact today in my pocket is a Camo PM2 (as the hearty do anything blade) and a CF Chaparral (as the thin and light slicer).

My Camo is pretty evenly mixed light and dark colors which I kind of like.

Add: Thumb drive (Yoda) added because....well....I have no idea.... other than because it was green, and on my desk when I took the pic. :)

You're not wrong on anything. Just different strokes, it's a big world.

If the size is ok with you, it's about a middle sized knife, it could give a run for the money as being the best k if in that size range. I held off for a very long time bc so many ppl applauded it. Its all 100% deserved.

As for the PM2 being a good EDC blade, I think it is and can be, but for office use I can see where its agressive appearance might put some of your sheeple. I work in a field position so knives are in my pocket every day, same with my coworkers. But people have been called in front of our HR dept for purportedly 'brandishing' knives (read: flicking them). This from a company that keeps various work knives in stores. There's no logic or common sense to it any more.

But that aside, the PM2 is a good size for EDC use, albeit on the large end of the scale for me. Very functional blade.

If a PM2 is what you're really wanting just save a bit more and get one instead of the others you mention. If you get a lesser knife now you'll just have to save even longer for the PM2.

At under 4oz the Para 2 is hard to beat for a medium sized EDC.
Great handle, great blade, great lock, and in a fairly lightweight package.
What's not to love about it.

you could just start out with a native 5 in G10 vary well made mid lockback knife! but like others have said hear, sooner or later you will end up with the PM2,not for the office but for a EDC one of spyderco's BEST,i put off buying it for a long time, thinking it was to large a folder for me! but the PM2 and my native5 see more pocket time then any other i own,may i suggest the black/silver blade as i think its the best looking PM2 offed!wish you best of luck.

I've been obessing over a PM2 for a while now.
Then you should get one.

Delica, Native, Endura, Manix2 ... all excellent. But they'll just convince you even more that you really need a PM2. ;)

I'm just getting started in this knife collecting business.
'collecting' or 'accumulating'? ;)

Welcome to the addiction.

I'm in a similar situation myself. I have (and love) my endura. I really want a PM2 now. I have several good knives in my edc rotation and can't quite justify the purchase right now. However, my next folder will either be a PM2 or a manix 2.

Just get the PM2. I choose the PM2 every time over my Endura, the Delica fits a different role for me so I find myself carrying that as well. But really get the PM2, you wont regret it.

I'm confused what you mean by the phrase, "overrated for civilian use." Please explain in better detail.

Anyway, carry only for its intended use, is totally subjective, and honestly I have no idea what you mean there either.

Having said that, since I have a PM2, which I use "universally" for all my cutting tasks, I don't think a Delica would suit me.

Don't forget the pm2 ain't just a medium size knife. A Kershaw blur is also hall of fame medium size knife. The pm2 is more than that it gives you the awesome compression lock just like an axis lock which are must try's if you are a knife nut!

An example would be the following post right after mine. The next user states he brings his PM2 to his office as a EDC.

How many people do you know work in a office setting that can actually justify a PM2? He needs a ladybug or a squeak. But wants to take the hype bandwagon.

I don't get your point here. It excels at typical civilian use, and that's who they're making them for. Just because it has "Military" in the name doesn't mean its made for only military.

Most people that praise it so highly don't even really use the knife as it was designed and intended for. They use it as a letter opener and pick their nails.

What makes you think you would have any idea what others do with their knives:confused:
You obviously don't.

IMO its not even a EDC or a pocket knife.

If its not a pocket knife what is it ???
An under 4oz belt knife

I don't get why you think you know what people use their knife for, or why you think you know what others need. And saying he wants to take the "hype bandwagon" is pretty rude, when you know nothing about him.

You have no idea what he does on his way to work, after work, or on his lunch breaks.
Or maybe he just takes it because he like's it. I doubt it has anything to do with the "hype bandwagon" though.
