Want a PM2 but...

It makes no sense for a guy working a cubicle corporate job in dress clothes to whip out a PM2 to open a letter on his desk.

Agreed, most of the time I'm not carrying a knife that small but sometimes you have to make do with what you have. Today for instance I'm sitting at my desk slicing pizza with a ZT 0561. Not many pants-w*tting liberals around here so nobody really cares. Some parts of the country they get really scared if you go longer than 5 days without clipping your fingernails.

I may have missed it, but to dip you toe in before taking the PM2 plunge... I would consider the Tenacious. Great knife and at 1/3rd the price it gives you the Spyderco experience without the grief from the wife.

Thank you everyone for your advice and feedback. I purchased a PM2 today off of the exchange. Go big or go home riight?

I think the below might help us understand Mr. Needler.

As a civilian with no affiliation to military I could never be accepting of this knife. Same thing with the police spyderco. I hate when they design a knife to cater to one specific group. When they do and that group isn't mine I won't buy it no matter how universally utilitarian it is. It was branded and marketed bad.

This is what happens in that scenario.

"pulls out knife"
Random person says "nice knife what kind is that?"

Me " A para military"

Random person " Are you military"

Me " No"

Random person " then why do you have that knife?"

I won't go any further but that's a example why.

Apparently as a civilian, the only knife that Mr. Needler would feel comfortable carrying is the Civilian...

:D

On topic, the PM2 is, indeed, one of the best EDCs I've encountered. I prefer the Military, but I've always gravitated toward larger knives. I never had any issues with lockrock or wobble or play of any kind. And it'd fly open. I threw on some of Casey Lynch's Ti scales, and it was even better. Sold it as part of a personal downsizing effort--not because the knife deserved to be sold.

Thank you everyone for your kind welcome and feedback. I took your advice and purchased a PM2 this morning off the knife exchange.

Excellent!

Be sure to post when you get it and give us your initial impressions, good, bad, or indifferent. And remember - pics or it didn't happen. ;)

Now, for your next purchase I recommend a Delica. And then an Endura. And then a ...

Nice. But pretty sure you will like it so much, that you will want to experiment with models from each of the Spyder factories, now that you've started off with something from Colorado. Maybe some of the fancy titanium/CF from Taiwan (Domino/Dice/Bradley/Chaparral, etc) then a couple tried and true FRN's from Japan (Delica, Endura, Dragonfly, etc), and you'll want some cost effective Chinese models to scatter around house and cars, or just to have a "loaner" blade for those non-knife people (Tenacious, Ambitious, etc), then you'll come back full circle to Colorado for a Military, Manix, etc.

Dang you are on a slippery slope. But what a ride, especially starting with a PM2. [emoji12]. Remember to return with pics and personal evaluation.

I've seen it in person. I haven't held one or anything. I have no desire to. If someone would let me demo it I'd pass. I used to do construction framing for two years and wouldn't have carried a knife that size. It's size alone is a automatic pass for me.

I like the thread in the main knife discussion a plumber using his tenacious for the last five years.

Law enforcement and labor industry. I worked construction framing for two years and carried no knife. While a knife would have been a useful tool at times I really didn't need anything more then a delica or endura without being overkill.

I get why some people are scared of knives now though. It makes no sense for a guy working a cubicle corporate job in dress clothes to whip out a PM2 to open a letter on his desk. And then get mad when judged for it lol.
I'm discounting everything you say at this point. Have you held am endura? It looks and feel bigger than the pm2. The cutting edge of the endura is the same as the oal of the pm2 blade.

I rarely carry my PM2, but I don't really have a desire to get rid of it. Buying again, I'd probably try the Caly 3.5 because it's a bit thinner. Reminds me of my 940, which I carry much more often than the PM2. The thinner profile works much better for me.

Thinner

or narrower?

The PM2 is already awful thin for a knife with 1/8" blade stock.

There are a lot of great Spyderco designs. I have several, but the PM2 is the one I keep coming back to and the one that I carry most, even when another knife might be more suitable or appropriate for a particular task or venue.
