Seeing that Jason Knight thread get resurrected from 2011 was the impetus for me to re-run this one on Buster. When I first ran it, I had thought about doing a re-run every year, with any new additions (these I never show now), but simply forgot. Glad many of you are enjoying it.

Thanks, Bob !
Never ever get too much of this thread.

A fun thread to get bumped. Thanks for the new pictures.

I read it originally, and could not help looking at every picture again and again.

Here's a simple yet complex early Warenski, circa early 1980's. It's quite a hunk of steel, now gone from my collection. Unfortunately, it's elephant ivory so not as much in demand, but quite a unique piece:

Possible my favorite Warenski piece

Hell, Joe, I would overpay for it just to get it back, I love it that much! Wish I knew where it was now.

Bob you ever see the movie The Red Violen

It's about a very special Violin and its life passed thru time and the people it comes in touch with

I won't say more so as not to spoil it but a knife like this will be very special for all time

That's exactly how I feel about it.

Lorien, the Jade Jambiya is a really special piece. You're a lucky guy to have handled it.

Sorry for the late response, Bob, ( :) ) but, yeah I'm a lucky guy! Who's that dude in the background?

Lorien, don't know if you are anyone else noticed, but I had to remove part of the thread title to fit in the word "Scimitar", 'cause the title was running out of empy space. The closest was "Jambiya". I may need to reword that title.

Guy in the background? Is this a trick question?

Oh, I agree with JP, shoulda run like hell for it with that Warenski! Worth a couple or three bucks, LOL.

Bob

Here's another departed-from-the-collection English Bowie. That slim profile always blew me away. Perfect as mint, except for that very small but obvious pin crack. Circa 1986-1988. Another ivory casualty, of significance.

Though difficult to see, the guard and pommel have inlaid gold surround borders.

Kevin, that's a hard one to answer. Probably would take me a few days to boil it down to just three or four. But I can think of one of those, the only Warenski folder I ever owned.

I've heard/known of a few Warenski Damascus pieces that owners swore were forged by Buster(at least, that's what the sellers told them) . However, the expert on the subject is Julie, and in conversation with her, I found that Buster never forged any Damascus.

Buster used to save pieces of rock left over from dagger handle-making and give them to Shaun Hansen to use. As a gift, one day Shaun presented. Buster with the only billet of Hansen Damascus ever made that was not for one of the Hansens' own knives. Buster, I think I heard, made either two or three knives from that billet. Other damascus he used, he acquired by the billet.

Here is an image of that folder from that billet, which I will forever regret seeing pass out of my collection. Beautifully carved out of 440-C stainless by Julie Warenski, Edwards Black Jade inset. And 18K gold opener. And the surround carving is DEEP, no photoshop on this baby. An AKI piece.

Note the 24k gold beading on the sides, surrounding the entire folder.

Between 2001-2005, Buster Warenski put his hands to a few integrals, which he'd never done before. Somewhere around five were made, the three I know of being a Bowie, a spearpoint with some great Julie beading decoration and this one, my favorite integral of the bunch, which awhile back entered the collection of Dan Favano:

NOTE: This is the final post in this particular round of resurrection.

gadzooks!

Personally, I don't think I would ever own anything like the kind of stuff we're seeing here, even if I had the scrilla to do so. The responsibility of caretaking pieces of this significance would weigh too heavy on me. I think there is a certain kind of courage required to collect pieces of the magnitude featured in this thread.

Maybe that will change at some point, but for now, hats off to you collectors that take care of these highly refined components of human endeavour, and particularly to those who share with the rest of us their existence.

Favorite knife ever, and probably one of many factors that made me itch to work steel into something of use; one could only aspire to create such functional beauty! Thanks for posting all these wonderful creations!!
