Warranty abusers

wow.
a scotch brite pad with some dish soap on it followed by a quick wipe with some oil or a silicone cloth?

it has a little surface rust by the logo and some light scratches from batoning through some branches...oh and the handle is dirty. i dont think it will be hard to clean up.

...sounds like my RC knives. I think after the knives have been batoned a good long while and the coating smooths out the knives are at their best.

I suppose for a shelf queen you would gain something by deliberately breaking it and getting a brand new replacement. (you would also lose something morally)
If you use the knife then a new one would be in no better condition than the one you have in no time flat - for a user it just wouldn't make sense to abuse the warranty as you just wouldn't gain anything from it.

If you are a decent, honest person who values his personal integrity then abusing a warranty doesn't make sense for any reason.

i just bought a RC3 off of EBAY. Earlier I thought I had bought my first RAT, a Rat 7 from Ontario (i didnt know at the time it was a different company, i posted about it in here and rcvd an answer) anyways back to the RC3 my first real RAT knife, it is used but i have no problem with that. the reason i am posting about it is that the seller sent me this email after i sent payment.

I got your payment, thanks.. I wanted to let you know that I will ship your package priority mail first thing monday morning.
Also, your getting a great knife collection, all of the knives are
good. I suggest that you break that RC3 and send it in to RAT
for a new one. The only reason I didn't do it is because I did it to
another RAT knife and I didn't want to be too greedy. If your not
familiar with the RAT warranty google it. Thanks

i thought that was BS. i dont plan on breaking it and sending it in, i want to try it out and if i dont like it, ill sell it over in the for sale forum as is. do you guys keep track of the bad apples like the one above so they dont send in "broken" knives more than once.

I, for one, would like to know who this unscrupulous Ebay dealer is.

if you read my first post, i clearly stated i dont intend to break it and get a replacement

after i get the knife i'll email it to you

I realise that - I was speaking more to the concept that the seller was suggesting. It's kinda surprising that he didn't just break it himself and then sell the brand new knife - it sounds like he is much less decent than you are.

you can either click on his user name and choose send an email or go to the ESEE website and click on contact us. (or wait a bit and someone will post his actual email address) :)

Buy it used, break it, send it back and get a new one. This is the kind of idiot who messes it up for the rest of us. He says he did this once already! What a disrespectful moron!

This scenario is exactly what happened to the H.I. "No Nonsense Lifetime Warranty" that Uncle Bill instituted and H.I. was famous for. This forced Aunt Yangdu to apply a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" outlining exactly what is expected and covered under warranty as to usage and abuse. The coverage is now at her discretion and unscrupulous buyers will find it difficult to abuse the warranty in such a manner. To those unscrupulous buyers abusing any companies good nature, i would hope that Karma finds you and makes you accountable for your deceptions and misdeeds.

It sucks that a no questions asked warranty has to be modified, it attracts many loyal and honest customers. I like your kukri's by the way, great bushcraft tools and weapons.

I just purchased my first ESEE knives, a HEST, an Izula kit and a RC 4. They are all built likes tanks. If you take care of great stuff, like the above you most likly will NOT have to use their great warranty.

I believe in karma (to an extent) so I'm sure those people that like to break tools just for the hell of it will get what's coming to them.

It may be that the unconditional warranty offer really only works for smaller knife companies that have more of a niche customer base. ESEE, Busse, and Bark River are recognized as companies that will take care of their customers. But their customers tend to be knowledgeable, serious knife users who appreciate and respect the company in turn. That's not true of the mass-market knife companies. There isn't that kind of relationship between the company and the customers.
