Was at dairy queen and...

wow! close call though the spec bump should theoretically be legal at UCI under California state law but don't know if cops will make a big fuss about it because it may or may not be in accordance with school policy. It seems the places where I observe the most clips are on ring road and the food court at the Student Center. It appears mostly upper class carry.

I'll keep an eye out. Now that you mention it, one of my TA's had a Recon 1, so maybe it is mostly upperclassmen. Let me know if you want to talk knives or have your knives sharpened! I just got an Edgepro, so I should be able to put polished edges on knives pretty soon. You too, cblair.

In my entire life I have only seen a handful of people carrying descent steel. My dad was into Al Mars, former Marine I work with carries a MOD knife (the full auto one with the belt cutter) and buddy of mine in SF carries some weird customs but for the most part the guys I know carry on the cheap.

Portland OR area here. I see lots of Benchmade and Kershaws out here. Occasionally a Sebenza or two. Maybe its the people I am around but I see a lot of nicer knifes ( BM 710, BM Afck, griptilions, and the all mighty Sebenza).

I've seen a lot of people also with 110's on their belts. It never died out, but i think more people are reverting back.

i was at a local knife shop in santa maria last week and was making small talk with a guy, he was talking about knives and pulled out a crkt edgie 2.

he was boasting about how he never had to sharpen it due to the self sharpener. when i looked at the blade it had dents all over it and was pretty dull.

i was carrying a spyderco scorpius at the time but didnt really want to pull it out because i knew he would say something negative about it. ( i got a vic pocket pal and a cs urban pal while i was there )

my aunt and uncle visited while i was in cali and my uncle pulled out a kershaw oso sweet. he knew i liked knives so he let me see it, its a really nice knife, flips open like a champ.

I was on vacation in Atlanta last month and amazingly just about everyone I saw was carrying everything from BM's, Kershaws, Spyderco's, to full blown customs!

The clips of quality knives I spot the most are Spydercos; usually 3rd Gen Delicas/Enduras, and the occasional Police. 2nd most would probably be Kershaws. 3rd most would be CRKT M14/16s. 4th most would be Benchmades, mostly in the pockets of cops, but the occasional civilian as well.

The most common clip I spot is one I can't ID, which likely means it's some Chinese POS that cost less than $15.

Yeah, I would expect a better class of knife carried by other BLADE attendees.

A lot of my buddies, are a lot older then me, like 40-50, as they were friends of my grandpa, who I lived with. They carried handmade knives, like crk and ckk. I do notice a lot of people are looking at my pocket clip, being that I am young. But its legal in Sioux falls, so i can whip it out. :D

one of my docents (@ heidelberg university) is - or at least was - edc'ing a spyderco police with stainless handles. to me it was funny because i always thought i was the only knife enthusiast on the campus.

There is a knife store in the ocean county mall ?? News to me :) ... I usually go to Harrys army navy(great selection) or Ramsey outdoor when up north jersey

Jersey represent. Was at a knife store in the ocean county mall. They had some spydercos ,benchmades, buck and victorinox. They had their share of flea market knives as well. Good ol krust was oodiling a sage when a customer walks in and says all loud and rude, "you got any gerbers". To wich the clerk replied ,"sorry but no". The rude customer then said, "well then you ain't got nothing good enough for me" . I just laughed at him as he stormed off

That there is...at the time spydusse and I went they actually had a better selection of higherish end knives than i've seen at harrys...bm's,spydercos,buck and so on

I was at an antique market on Sunday looking for old timey sharp goodies (pocketknives/cleavers/swords/axes etc, ended up buying four folders...) and saw a guy with a visible pocket clip, back pocket carry. It looked like a strider or strider/buck collab. so I was interested in finding out what it was and approached slowly to say hi and inquire. I say hello, noticed the clip and am fan of knives etc. he shows me the knife, it was a buck/strider/tarani, in good shape too, not neglected as some people have mentioned above, so I was excited to have met another "real" enthusiast.

I grabbed my Spyderco gayle bradley from my RFP, and he chimes up before I could say what it was, "Oh, it's got plastic handles!" At that point, I realized this guy wasn't a real knife enthusiast because he didn't recognize the GB and thought it was a cheapo, flea market knife... At that point, I didn't even want to explain that it was carbon fiber, and that M4 would cut rings around his blade, nor did I feel like showing him my S30V military that was in LFP.

Kinda bummed me out I gotta say because he was just a schmuck with a decent blade, he may as well of had a frost cutlery or united cutlery POS...

End of long story/rant. :)

AT the family reunion last week, my nerdy cousin (PhD in physics, teaches at Berkely), pulled out a custom Rick Menefee slip joint folder. About floored me.

I was sitting at a table outside on break with a friend/co-worker/knife nut and he was looking at my ZT0350 when a lady that works in the Legal dept. pulled out an Al Mar and started to tell us how her husband is a enthusiast with many customs. She actually thought the 0350 was pretty cool looking.
