Was at dairy queen and...

I was in the local mall and i found a place called the Timepiece Gallery that had spydercos in the display window, i thought the guy inside just carried a few spydercos he thought looked cool but when i went inside there was a wall full of spydercos, benchmades, and crkt as well as zippos and watches in cases. The guy was really nice and he showed me a griptilian (great blade i'm really wanting a benchmade now) and was even good at opening it as he put it back. Can't help but wonder if he's on bladeforums!

Out here in Stockton I see a lot of the Buck Strider Tarani and Tarani branded folders, i.e. 5.11. Mostly due to the fact that one of Steve Tarani's principal Filipino martial arts instructors hailed from here.

Ever since posting in this thread I've been actively looking for pocket clips and belt sheaths; not so much as a box cutter :(
I know I'm not the only knife knut in my neck of the woods. I guess we frequent different places.

Just because you don't see a pocket clip advertising the new tactical style knives so popular with the young ones, don't be so sure there are no knives about.

Many of my friends and peers (social security retired old farts) grew up in an age that if a man had pants on, there was a pocket knife in one of them. It may be an old Boker pen knife, or a little Case peanut, or a Buck 309 companion. But it will be there, and it will be sharp. We just don't like to advertise or brag about it.

Carl.

I carry a pos beater at the moment mainly because i cant afford a good folder. I had bought 2 in the past, both somehow lost. My most recent was a SOG trident, but im looking into putting a few more bucks into a good knife when money gets available for one. Possibly a good benchmade or kershaw, or i might get another sog. just depends, but i need a better knife for my line of work

I'm always on the lookout. Mostly see belt sheaths with buck type folders, or some kershaw clips which are pretty recognizable. I've converted a couple people to Spyderco fans, those are about all I see. Did see a spyderco clip on an older gentleman at church the last time I went (two easters ago :p ) but didn't ask him about it.

I've been to Harrys also when I visit in nj. My uncle lives in Hamilton square. I bought my one and only buck 110 there

I was cutting a pipet box open in lab the other day with my ZT200st and this guy next to me says his knife is bigger and stronger than mine. He pulls out a some dull CRKT with a 4in blade and a skeletonized handle.

I just smiled and said, "Nice knife. You should sharpen it."

I always have a quality blade with me, but I carry in my watch pocket, clipless so most people don't know it's there. I always have an eye out for clips. Usually it's crap. Belt carry is rare. I work with two guys who have Spyderco Police's and one loves my Emerson CQC10 & ESEE's, but I don't think he'll pony up for one. Other than that, if it's not a cheapo $5 blade then it's a kershaw or a lower end Spyderco. I hate it when random people see my blade and then show me their POS like they want me to tell them how cool it is. I usually just say, yeah, that's great. I wish we didn't all have to come here to find our fellow lovers of high quality knives, but it's sure better than nothing!!

i'm an army brat, my dad just retired from the army, 30yrs in, and you would think you would see more high end tactical folders being carried by the soldiers and airmen around here but the mass majority carry a gerber or leatherman tool, pretty much anything they can get for free from their supply sgt., the only person I know that has a quality blade is my dad, it's an Applegate that he got while in Iraq, and myself. Even at the gun shows I see people passing up GREAT deals on quality knives for crap made in china knock offs, seriously I saw a guy pass up a ladies booth, she was selling spyderco's at below dealer cost and going for some dudes crappy knock off knives booth and paying like $20 bucks for a piece of tin that I know for a fact only cost the seller a buck to acquire.

About the highest end I saw was a guy with a griptilian clipped to his front right pocket at Chicago's Water Tower place.

While people around me know I EDC two multitools, a random guy on the street will never notice because I carry those tools deep in my pocket.

I was at an antique market on Sunday looking for old timey sharp goodies (pocketknives/cleavers/swords/axes etc, ended up buying four folders...) and saw a guy with a visible pocket clip, back pocket carry. It looked like a strider or strider/buck collab. so I was interested in finding out what it was and approached slowly to say hi and inquire. I say hello, noticed the clip and am fan of knives etc. he shows me the knife, it was a buck/strider/tarani, in good shape too, not neglected as some people have mentioned above, so I was excited to have met another "real" enthusiast.

I grabbed my Spyderco gayle bradley from my RFP, and he chimes up before I could say what it was, "Oh, it's got plastic handles!" At that point, I realized this guy wasn't a real knife enthusiast because he didn't recognize the GB and thought it was a cheapo, flea market knife... At that point, I didn't even want to explain that it was carbon fiber, and that M4 would cut rings around his blade, nor did I feel like showing him my S30V military that was in LFP.

Kinda bummed me out I gotta say because he was just a schmuck with a decent blade, he may as well of had a frost cutlery or united cutlery POS...

End of long story/rant. :)

If Carbon Fiber is "plastic" to him, then I wonder what he thinks of the G10 on his Buck/Strider EDC?

Jersey Represent +1. I was talking to a guy several years ago who was working with Jersey JEMSTAR program. I asked him what kind of benchmade he had and he pulled out an auto presidio. It was issued to him.

Even better is this past tuesday when I saw a guy at the gym with a knife in his pocket. I was eyeing it for a little while trying to figure out what it was. I'd basically narrowed it down to some type of emerson, but i had no idea which it was. So i walk up to the guy and ask him "hey what kinda knife do you have in your pocket?" He whips out a CQC 6...custom. He then starts explaining to me as if I'm a total idiot, since i imagine that he has run into his fair share of those. When i demonstrated knowledge about emersons in general, he just handed it over to me to play with for a little. He'd gotten the knife back in like '95 for $475....a total bargain right now! We proceeded to talk knives for another 5 minutes and I told him I had a lefty Reeve at home. I also found out that he has quite a collection of blades at home, and used to instruct knife fighting.

All to say, I was impressed. aside from that the best ive ever seen aside from those two is like a really beat up old spyderco. but its all good.

Any of you guys ever see kids like 16 and under carry a good knife? I love my benchmades. :D

I'm in the Air Force, most folks carry some kind of knife around. Mostly in the standard range of very cheap to cheap, probably the most expensive would be a few CRKT and an occasional lower end Spyderco. There is one guy in my squadron that carries an Emerson though, first one of those I'd ever seen. I have a friend in another unit who carries a Randall when he flys. Everyone thinks I'm nuts because I fly with a Fehrman in my pack and always carry around an XM-18 or Sebbie. :)
