Was this self-defense?

"If he's afraid enough to say that, he'll just let us take everything"... maybe? Because they sure seemed bolder all of a sudden, the bigger one did a 180 and came right back in, and then the little guy thought he had an opening to get in and get out, presumably. Looked to me like a domino effect based on his overt compliance. Overt compliance is suggested as a decoy, but only to launch a counter ambush using force appropriate to the circumstances, which brings us back to: No I don't think it was, but I recognize mitigating factors that I did not before. Doesn't mean I think the force in itself was justified, but that POSSIBLY Nguyen had a valid fear for his life, and thought he was in a justified use of lethal force scenario. Because of fear, previous interactions, training or lack thereof? We don't know. So we can't judge, and don't get paid to anyway. Too bad the system suffers corruption. It's what we have...

I need a glass of water

But here's an excitingly bland video that actually made me chuckle despite the gravity of the situation (and also I was saying it wrong)

Not no, but hell no. That's not going to fly here or in a court room. Straight up trash trying to turn the victim into the predator.

We might see a prosecutor with the same views as you try it in court though.

It does not -- at least in Nevada where this occurred.
Is that due to perception of threat, the fact that it was a business, or actual wording of the law?

I understand it to be of your car or home is invaded, you may be protected from penalization of deadly force.

Gee I can hardly wait for the next example of "BF violence porn" . Some of you are getting off too much on this. Having seen the aftermath and having been involved in a few violent encounters I can assure you none of this is funny, gung ho, tacticool or anything to be happy about. Stabbing some dumbass isn't patriotic, fun or shows that you live in a "free state". If you want to throw political shade I hear there's a forum here for that.

A self-defense lawyer's take on it:

That lawyer is so good that he is on youtube asking five bucks to respond to questions in chat.

If it was as open and shut as he seems to think it is the store owner would have already been arrested.

It would be helpful if you quote or tag those you are referring to identify the posts or posters. It helps with the flow of conversation.

And I agree that this topic is not funny or that the actions of either the victim or perps patriotic.

I think that's obvious to anyone who's been reading it.

I think you completely misread my post. Compliance as a ruse to wait for an opportunity to launch a counter ambush is a tool suggested by Active Self Protection in cases where armed robbers have the drop on you. Play the compliant yes man, jump when the gunman's back is turned. Don't draw from the drop.

That's not at all how that works. People blatantly commit crimes all the time, doesn't mean they get prosecuted. for example open and shut theft cases caught on camera don't get prosecuted. That's part of why things like what the did clerk here are happening more and more.

But hmmm the picture does tell a story....
