Was this self-defense?

Here is a similar scenario played out with guns.

BTW: Can anyone tell what type of store this is? (strange place with open jars on the counter?)

"Child soldiers " have historically proven to be some of the most amoral and vicious monsters you could imagine .

They are far more easy to "program"for evil than properly raised adults .

Maybe do some research ?
Child soldiers with AKs and machetes, fine. Spaghetti arms boy with a wadded up jacket, not so much, but I can't control what others find intimidating. If you're asserting these two look threatening to you that's okay. My wife would feel the same.

Justified and self-defense. All people should have the right to protect themselves and their processions. Perhaps if more shop keepers respond in this way, there will be fewer thieves.
Or if the shopkeeper had just held them at gunpoint initially until the cops came nobody would have gotten stabbed. Most likely they'd have run out the door and never came back. Those two were so nervous I bet the clerk could smell it. Real crooks don't come in and goof around making small talk and stealing the tip jar, lol. Coming in wearing masks is reason enough to draw down, it's short sleeve shirt weather. Those two probably have a record- for shoplifting from Hot Topic.

I saw no reason to believe that the clerk was in danger. He was certainly in no danger after the first knife strike. I don't see killing people over property. I wouldn't shoot someone attempting to steal my lawnmower, but that is just me. If I did shoot someone stealing my mower, in my state, I would probably be seen as a hero...

This had Nothing to do with theft!
Why do you keep twisting the facts.

Three (at least) criminals went into the store.

Only one attacked the clerk. Only one got stabbed.
The clerk defended himself against the one who attacked him.
Not because of theft.

If this was about Theft, like some of you here keep pushing.........
The clerk would of stabbed all THREE of them.

Did he???
No.
Nobody attacked the clerk in the video. There's plenty to discuss about the video but come on. We can all see. A lot of folks in this thread, I think, are saying they see an attack just for the sake of argument. People in this thread are looking for loopholes that would excuse the stabbing. Nobody in here actually thinks the clerk was attacked. Nobody in here thinks either of those guys were threatening.

Most of the people who think death it a suitable punishment for minor theft hate the countries that actually practice that. I'm with you- stuff is just stuff. The kid didn't want the clerk, he wanted the cash register. Still, a couple stabs I can understand but once the kid was down, let him go already. He's gonna run off. Having spent time and worked in bars I can assure you I've never seem somebody stabbed in my life (4 times seeing it) who does anything except want to to to the hospital once they realize it.

wadded up jacket
This is called armed robbery . There is no way to know if the gun is real , loaded , or not even a gun .

Does NOT matter ! It's an implied lethal threat , even if it's a bluff .

Plenty of idiots have been legally shot for this kind of pretense .

As far as the owner's bravado , unless he wants to be repeatedly robbed , harassed and attacked ; he needs to be a bit badass, right up front .

Actually, I do think a lot of these guys in here found those two threatening.

It's a big mistake to seriously threaten me (or mine); or even to "only steal" from me . ;)

How will you feel when these type savages get around to raiding your personal dwelling or place of business ? o_O

Hasn't happened yet. I don't live an ostentatious lifestyle and I don't advertise I have anything. If I go on vacation I don't say it on social media and I have my mail held. I'm armed, have security cameras and an alarm. If somebody steals something outside that's one thing, coming inside is different- but a house is not a store. To paint every dumb teen with an addiction as a savage is dehumanizing, and addicts do stupid things. If it were your child stabbed seven times after you watched them struggle through addiction would you give the shopkeep a high five? They wanted money, guess why? You do you, though.
If those two are an exhibit on the current state of savage criminal behavior.. I feel pretty confident. :D

So is your concern in a situation like this actually your safety? Or is it just the principle? "What, am I supposed to let someone get one over on me? I AIN'T NO VICTIM." That's the vibe I get from this thread generally.

Why do i get the idea these folks would attempt to "clear the house" rather than stay in the bedroom with a gun pointed at the door and the cops on the way? ;) Remember that guy who set the trap for those two teens and blew them away on the basement stairs? A whole lotta that in this thread. A lotta gung ho, not so much "oh shit my life is ruined", but some folks have to learn the hard way.

Do you often have suspicions or feelings that groups of savage, bloodthirsty raiders are coming to get you in your home? Have you ever seen any evidence of this such as droppings, bits of studded leather, shoddily spray painted signs in red with drips resembling blood that "we're coming for you?" Lots of gang activity nearby? A bunch of parked motorcycles with weird apocalypse style decorations? Tell me why you think groups of "raiders" are coming for you, me, or anybody?

It looks like the guy who got stabbed threw a punch as soon as he hops the counter. Anyone else see that? I read the clerk got a black eye during the encounter from someone who claims to frequent the store. Also read he’s a very small guy. Idk, if the dude threw a punch, I don’t blame the clerk for attacking, especially since there are multiple robbers.

He's small but the counter jumper is smaller. If he got punched doesn't that pretty much prove counter jumper didn't have a gun? In fact, doesn't dropping the coat to jump the counter prove that? How many people would draw a knife on a featherweight-sized guy who punched you, raise your hands.
Look, the crook kids were in the wrong but "rises to the level of lethal force" wrong? No way.
