Was your first a crkt, and do you still have/use it?

My first CRKT was an M16 big dog wih the aluminum frame, I sold it. But it's the only model knife I ever bought a 2nd time. I just bought the titanium version a few months ago.

Congrats Arakiel on the custom crawford! I have looked through crawfords' photo gallery and plan on making his crawford/kasper necker my first custom purchase. (i have a small crkt kasper collection) And to Planetcat, i have both the ultima and the ultima 2 and while the first is a well built and fine preforming knife, which led to the purchase of the ultima 2 that was the first crkt i was disapointed in. The fit and finish and overall "feel" of the knife is so much lower, maybe due to the fact that the first ultima was made in taiwan and the second was made in china. For a $30 slicer i recommend the first but not the second. It seems like a good many people have nothing but good comments concerning the m16-m21 series of knives, at least non-zytel versions. The m series knives and hammond crusiers are the folders i have used, and on occasion abused, with never a failure, i wonder why the quality control on those seems to be better than on their other folders? Im surprised no one has mentioned the kommer bear claw! It was the first knife i used as a necker and is a very handy and comfortable small knife. I consider it a poor man's emerson lagriffe!

First one I ever had was an Apache, bought somewhere back in the late 90's. Gave it to my 13 yr-old grandson..he loves it.

mApart from SAKs sy first was a Bladelock. I bought it because I liked the solid feel in my hand and the neato factor of the lock. Rarely carry it now because of the weight and poor edge holding of the blade. Mostly carry Spydercos these days.

Mine was an Apache II. Given to me by a friend. It is the ats 34 steel. I really like it still. Recently I stripped the blade coating ( some grey colored whathaveyou) with 600 grit sandpaper, and like it even more. Oh yeah, I stripped the pocket clip also so it's shiny also. And this is my only crkt, so I don't know how the apache serrations compare to other models, but these serrations seem ok.

My first one was a CRKT Lake 111, nice knife, but sold it to try out other knives. Recently I bought a CRKT Drifter, the one with stainless steel handles, and I think it's a good knife for the price. Nice shaped blade, no blade play and the frame lock looks solid.

The biggest knife I could find at the local AAFES (Air Force Base type of WalMart) was a M16-14SF (Aus-8, 3.875" blade). This was back when I was a young Boy Scout, and the huge knife was amazing. It beckoned to me, and I was powerless to its advances. I ended up carrying it for a good descent while, and boy did it get me in trouble. Multiple scoutmasters and camp staff weren't happy with a young camper carrying around a blade longer than my hand (that was just the blade by itself).
Years passed, I moved on to more sensible carriers like a Mini-Pika, and multiple cheap Gerbers. Nowadays I'm one of the oldest amongst the staff members under the age of 30 (there are too many late 40s and 50s guys out there). I see young scouts running around having fun with small SAKs just like I used to carry as my first knife ages ago. I always make a point to emphasize knife safety like an old scoutmaster, because knives are one of the most dangerous things at camp after heat and dehydration.
I've since dug up the old M16-14SF and gave it some much needed cleaning, lubrication, and blade work (it was a mess, I used to use the thing like an axe, it sure was hefty enough). Sure am glad i got the CRKT vs the Gerber Applegate Covert. I'm not so sure how well the Convert would have held up vs the M16-14SF.

The first and only CRKT I have is the KO 'Ripple'. It inhabits the bottom drawer, a position it is well suited to, IMO.

My first and only CRKT is Large Point Guard in AUS6 Plain Edge. Stopped there, because getting 'branded' knives down here wihout inflated price is impossible. I got it through a friend that was visiting US.

Now. many years later, expanded to other good & cost effective (incl shipping) Sanrenmu & Enlan, I think the build & qu!ity is comparable. Although I found the liner lock inspires less confidence than EL01, I haven't tasked it to failure. Lockup still solid without fail, spine whack test passed always.

It has stopped being carried when I moved to smaller blades, and then CRKT started making the in lesser steel :(. Back to bigger blade, I now EDC Enlan EL02.

So, mine is a memory of good times :).

My first CRKT was one of the M16 plain edge line of knives. It was my first pocket clip knife. Bought it because it was well ballanced, comfortable, easy to open, and has plenty of cutting edge, and easy to sharpen. I carried and used the heck out that thing for a couple of years, and it served me quite well. I was very happy with it.

Then when I got a better job with better pay I started buying a few more expensive knives, which eventually lead me to this forum. And thanks to this forum I learned that most of the knives I had loved and used to such great effectiveness are apparently useless crap, according to the opinions of many of the mebers here, haha.. ;) ...and it would seem that I have bought into it too somewhat, since I mostly buy more expensive knives these days.

Though I still use that CRKT quite often. It has become my got-to "hard use" knife, it's what I grab if I think I will have some nasty or potentially abusive cutting to do. I have abused it, and I can tell you it has peformed great, and is still kickin A$$!

Yeah, I don't quite understand what some people have against them? For $40 that knife was a heck of a deal in my opinion.

Wow...just wow. The sad thing is i think this guy is the image that most sheeple have of knife collectors. (irregardless of what brand he carries)

I don't have sound on my work computer, is he saying something rediculous? Because all I see is some kid demonstrating the wave feature on his pocket knife.

Yes BryFry! You will just have to listen to that guy when you get home. I watched it twice because the first time i thought maybe just maybe it was meant as a joke...but i think he's serious.

I guess they do exist! Ha! You have to watch it from the youtube site to really enjoy the comments - WOW - they do exist

I still have my first 5 along with others. From back in the day when they used ATS-34.

I bought a friend an Apache years and years ago. He lost it, but I liked that knife. A year or so after that I bought a KISS at a gun show; I liked it too, but someone made off with it. Sometime during the last year I bought a M21 (I think) with aluminum handles and an AUS 8 blade, and I really like it. I put a little locktite on the the handle screws and I don't regret buying it at all. It's gigantic, but fast and comfortable. I'd buy another one. I also like the look and price of the slipjoints they've put out, but I haven't been able to handle one yet.
