Watch for me on Forged in Fire...

Your work is a constant inspiration.
So much fun to see you crush the game!
Most impressive of all was seeing you deal with the stress- I know you weren't totally cool the whole time inside, but keeping calm and being sensible made you the gold standard of this series so far.

Great episode. As soon as I saw the cable, I though it was right up your alley.

The Kopesh you made was stunning. I was dealing with kids at the time I watched it, so I missed that you were doing Damascus until later. You really nailed that piece!

My boys had watched it before I got a chance. They had a real hard time keeping their excitement in, and not spoiling it for me.

Hey guys, thanks a bunch for the kind words. For some reason, the cameras didn't really stress me out too much, perhaps it was because I thought more of just enjoying the experience rather than having to win. By the time I finished the Khopesh though, I wanted to win...

Super show! Glad I did not see this thread till after watching the show.

Salem,
Watching you work the cable really showed your experience.
RE: The quick dip after the heat treat. Was that an acid dip to bring out the Damascus pattern of the cable?
Really wished they'd shown that knife better in finished state. Geometry & edge really performed on that pork ;-)

The risk/reward on the Khopesh cool to see you go through. Great planning and thought there! I was amazed at how well it did against the bones (those were serious tough/hard). What you produced there (especially considering choice to use twisted Damascus) really did homage to that historic weapon. I was blown away seeing the chopping performance, and minimal damage. Excellent !! Gonna do some homework review on Khopesh (was an eye-opener that I never gave due credit).

EDIT: I just rewatched S01E05 Crusader Sword going against the femur bones they did not do a good as the Khopesh. I assume the bones must have been significantly tougher ... or is there something about the Khopesh that performs better - narrower profile, lighter/faster impact?

Is there any place we can go to see pictures of your two completed blades?

Regards & CONTRAT's

Go WA State
Christopher

Salem, I was lying in bed thinking about that episode, and something was bothering me:
In most lights, 1500f (which is a pretty good temp for most carbon steels) is a cherry red, but it looked like you guys were all quenching at a pretty peppy orange- was that just the light in the studio workshop, or something the cameras were picking up that wasn't really accurate?
