Watch for me on Forged in Fire...

Congratulations Salem! You really showed class and skill. Making something that difficult look easy takes real talent!
If you were nervous it sure didn't show...cool as a cucumber!

Nicely done! I caught your episode at my lab (instead of studying for a state test tomorrow). Your damascus was gorgeous!

Watched it last night. That Damascus blade was probably the best work I've seen on that show. Very nicely done!

Very nicely done!! I'm glad in this season they're actually telling the contestants the challenges up front. Makes way more sense.

Thanks a zillion everybody! It's great to have so much support from my friends at my favorite place on the internet! I did not get to keep either of those blades, they are property of the History Channel now. Many of the first/second round knives are hanging on the wall at the FiF studio, which I got to see- pretty cool. Many of the 2nd place weapons hang on the wall in the judging room, and I got to see those too. Also very cool. The winning weapons disappear, from what I gather they often go home with execs and the like...
Erin, I did cut it close in several ways with time constraints and details. Fortunately, my estimates of things mostly turned out to be correct and my mental priorities lists stood me in good stead! Game plan, game plan, game plan. That's what I would hammer into the head of any future contestant that might ask for my advice...
My real advice would be, don't make a knife with a guard in the first rounds. It takes extra time and is more difficult to pull off well. And, I knew that going in but I stubbornly wanted to show I could do it! :P

Happened to catch this episode was proud to see Salem on it and that he won. :) Awesome all around.

As other have said your work is some of the nicest I've seen, and certainly your show blades looked as good as any I saw in the previous season.

Way to go Salem! After following and appreciating your work for the past 7 years, it was extremely satisfying to see you win. You displayed a humble and professional attitude in addition to a tremendous amount of craftsmanship and artistic skill.

I finally got to see the show last night, didnt know you were going to be on. When they announced your name I said to myself "Hey ... that name sounds familiar!"

Excellent work, Salem! That first knife was sweet. On the second, I'm glad you didnt stick with the historically accurate size, I think the extra length may have help much in the chopping test.

Great job all around ... congrats!!

I didn't get to see the episode until last night, so it was sorta cheating since I knew you'd won - but it was still good show.

Salem - you looked good up there. Handled yourself with your usual poise and knowledge. When you said "guard" on first knife I thinks "huh-oh", but darn, you did good! Can you share when they do the tempering? From the show it looks like ya'll go straight from quench tank to judging? Perhaps overnight for tempering?

What in the world were those leg bones from - they were HUGE!

Again, congrats.

Great Job Salem. Congratulations. I very much enjoyed seeing you work. You were precise, focused and your extra research on the knife style sure paid off and really highlighted your analytic abilities. Your demeanor was very pleasant as well relaxed at (least in appearance) humble and reserved. I was also digging your chapeau.

Looked up this episode On Demand and I must say I apologize for being a bit behind but I just wanted to say congratulations to you Salem winning this episode. It must be a true honor. Good job!

Jay
