Watches and Hinderers

I like PAMs and agree, the ability to change our straps is awesome, and makes them unique. I have owned a couple of Luminor Marinas, and the fit and finish was nice, but I could not get over the 17 jewel pocket watch movement, and a basic one at that! PAM has some nice in house movements on the upper end, but the price still gets me for what you get IMO. I do miss my PAMs every once in awhile, but I do miss my sore arm from all of that weight...

You shoud try on the Radiomir then, I had a Fiddy but sold it in late 2008, sold the Rad 90, 184 and 190 during the crisis... the 184 and 190 have the JLC movements and they are the best if not the best of the best in the movement market. The 90 has the GP movement which has the mechanical alarm function very cool. Below is the 184 (I had the same one):

Yep, those are beautiful and a good value for the movement/fit & finish. The Fiddy is sick. I could see myself picking up a Radiomir at some point in the future. I am stuck in a vintage Rolex rut...if it is a sport model with acrylic, it speaks to me. I need to thin the herd and get something fresh.

I'm sitting back and getting an education, you guys are the equivalent in watches as Rob O is to Hinderer Knives!

The Ultra Hi-speed MudMan and 560,please note the hi speed photography to match!

I've been doing the same FO. Every time a watch is mentioned I google it. I am a noob when it comes to watches. I have my gshock aviation which i love but these panerai and Rolex watches make me want to get a third job. I especially like bwilsons panerai. Very cool timepieces!

@WJC01: It's funny that you posted G9100 Mudman, I have been wanting to get the GW9300GB myself (Japanese version) I am an outdoor man so you know where I come from.
@F.O and Jensen81: Thank you for your kind words but Rob is the man himself who actually makes knives, I am just a watch collector since 1996 and my knowledge is like scratching the surface when it comes to watches. The more I am into watches, the more technical knowledge I get into, they are not a piece of jewelry that tells time anymore. Many people don't know that Rolex donates a large portion of profits to various charities. That was one of the reason I paid my money for it, another reason is it lasts forever. I have 2 friends that wear theirs for 27 years without sending in for services (Datejust) and they are still running. I have had my GMT2C since 2007 (First year Rolex introduced Ceramic bezel) and it's still running like the first day I bought it.

I hope I am not off on topic, If I am please let me know. Thanks

Not off topic at all in my opinion. This thread needs photos but does not have to be a photo-only thread. I tend to open photo threads looking for images and mood sinks when it's text only...

This thread not so much. It's turning into opinions and knowledge mixed with respectful addition/counter opinions and knowledge.

I'm learning a bit here too.

@N2K: If you are looking for EDC collector watch that will hold a value for a long time, definitely I would suggest Daytona. It is a watch that every watch collector must have in their collection along with Omega Moon Watch just to name the 2 big brands. For investment, I would suggest Panerai but you have to do homework in which one to increase value in the future based on supply and demand. I have never lost money on Panerai and in fact I made a lot of money investing in it. For example, I made $3,500 on the Fiddy (paid $15,000 in 2005 sold for $18,500 in a heart beat in 2008). I made $2,000 on my Pam 190 (paid for $7,200 in 2007 and sold for $9,200 in 2011) now if you look at the prices of them right now, Fiddy is $25,000 here:
Those are just 2 examples to name a few that I made money on. If you want to invest in Rolex, it must be Vintage Rolex like the 50s and 60s Sea Dweller and Sub but you gotta know what you are doing otherwise you will get a swapped-out parts Vintage Rolexes (not original)that you never know.

Thanks.

I'm aware of the Daytona...it's on my short list. Saw it, loved it...went looking, couldn't find it. Found a few months later at twice to three times MSRP, stopped looking.

Bought other watches...now I have a brand I'll never buy again because of it. PM for info. on a watch company with the worst customer service of ANY business I've ever dealt with...

Right now I have mixed feelings about so many timepieces on the market. I could get bit by the bug again and who knows what I'd wind up buying and how I'd like/dislike each?

Slowing me down on one brand or model differs from brand and model.

Rolex --their image by common folk vs. their regard by those in the know.

Panerai -- the huge protective lever-housing around the crown is not visually appealing (to me) and looks like it might limit wrist movement.

Omega-- the stuff a few have already mentioned plus the "painted" bezels (like those on some Rolex) while robust, just don't speak to me.

Right now, since I'm in a bit of a "funk" and I'd dislike dropping big buck to wind up dissapointed I'm looking at brands like Lüm Tec. But here too I have reservations...the auto movements they are using seem to be lower-end movements. But for the prices, I might get one to bridge to gap between now(ish) and when I find the high-end timepiece that really is a must-have for me. A very personal thing.

I appreciate any additional input on anything I typed here...plus any first-hand opinions on Lüm Tec would be welcome.

You must be talking about the Panerai Luminor with the crown protector, and rest assured Panerai is even more comfortable than Rolex, don't take my words for it, try it on at your local dealer and feel for yourself. If Luminor is not your cup of tea, then Radiomir like those two 184 and 190 that I mentioned above should be good fit. I don't know anything about Lum Tec but I looked it up and their prices are $1K. You can have a decent well known watch for same kind of money like Sinn here: .

Try them on and try them out is exactly the plan. The Radiomir is one I plan to look into.

Used timepieces are not my first choice.

Right on...in the future, folks, please PM or e-mail links instead of posting them. The information has value if it's topical but this Website dislikes "deal spotting" type posting.

dang, im pretty sure its safe to say that hinderer owners have incredible taste in time pieces. some serious eye candy in this thread

Luckily you will never get the, "you spent that much on a (insert object of virtue)?!" reaction with this crew...

Thanks.

You can find a SS Daytona (in either dial color) for MSRP or less. If you're serious about buying, PM me and I'll direct you to a few sellers.
