Watered-down W&SS

... two dozen people could be chosen to go through this forum in a two year project and what could be filtered out of that would possibly be the best survival book ever written. If you eliminate gear discussion, there is very, very little that has not been discussed in here over the years. The forum could be archived read-only.

So, it is the sense of community and in the case of some people, an extreme lack of humor...or discussion of gear, that brings them back.

When new things are discussed there tends to be a streak of Neo-Luddism going on...I'm name calling now! Neener-Neener-Neener...I mean...this thread. Jesus.

Man, that would be a bitchin' project!! I'd love a sorted "best of WSS" megathread.:thumbup:

Sense of community is what I like best.

Saying there's a streak of Neo-Luddism isn't name calling. At least, not individual name calling. I'd classify that as an observation- there is Neo-Luddism, but there's also a lot of excitement over certain types of new things. some of the best threads come out of something someone finds new that becomes a WSS staple.

Well, one of the reasons for stagnation is because you can't point people who are new to the search feature because they have to pay for that. So, you're either going to answer them and support them or just make it your own little club. Either be a forum...or don't.

On the other hand, you can put a sticky up and they will ignore it and oftentimes ignore demands they use a search feature as well.

I don't begrudge BFC for charging for memberships with certain privs, etc., being able to sell stuff...but the signature line and search features, having to pay for them seems a bit much to me really. And I don't need people with big heads to lecture me on that, especially people that were not even here when the changeover happened...or people that were! Just an opinion.

I hear you on the search feature.

I hardly ever post a full review or anything on this forum because it it generally wasted.

The forum moves so fast that after you spend 15 or 20 minutes loading pictures and sizing them down it's only on the first page for maybe 12 hours at most. Not even long enough for all the regulars to see or comment on it.

Then unless you subscribe to it which takes even MORE time you can't use the search feature to kick it up to the top again for another view.

Sorry but I've only read the first page.

I'll post when I feel I can be helpful.
I think this may be one of those times :)

One can search bf using google.
I got this link from the bf service and support forum a good while ago:

Now, I'll be the first to admit my google-fu is weak, but there's a starting point for you :)

Priceless.

You guys are putting us on right? This is FAR too good to be improvised. I also find it ironic that the most vicious flame wars happen amongst the members with the highest post counts... do we become intolerant of eachother over time?

Rick. All i gotta say to you is this:

Is there some clique I should join so I can feel special and included? I haven't seen any, but I don't want to be left out. Please tell me what to do: I'm so confused by it all.

Let's start our own Bob. I always wanted to be in a clique.

Can I join? I'll bring the beer :D

I think one of the true measures of a man is not bringing baggage from another forum and then holding a grudge about it.

I think the key to all of this is remembering that this is the effing internet, not real life.

I, for one, enjoy poking fun at you from time to time. Mostly because the reaction is so outlandish that I cannot believe an adult would seriously type it.

Oh yea, the other issue I have noticed lately is dumbass noobs coming on board and spouting off about how childish or whatever we are without possessing the capability to understand such elusive concepts as "sarcasm," "wit," and "inside jokes."

ETA: JFC Christof, that scared the shit out of me...Gettin ready for Halloween this early?

I was waiting for the sanctimonious to chime in. How refreshing

Sorry if that offended you or inconvenienced your day. I don't see the need for you to be insulting, but have at it.

I'm genuinely interested to know Kevin's opinion on this thread. He started the thread with a goal in mind and then walked away from it. It strikes me as having been a fairly unproductive thread so far.

And I wasn't being sanctimonious (although I certainly can be at times), I appreciated Bushman's convivial attitude and expression of camaraderie. So if you'd care to, let's drink!

p.s. In re-reading my post, I recognize that the two comments I made could have been read as being linked; they were not meant to be, they were two separate thoughts.

Can we have a serious thread about the use of belly-lint as firestarter? Or is that redundant with all the navel-gazing going on around here lately? :p

How many times are you going to edit that? :p

I smell a Troll.

People seriously need to improve their google-fu. There have got to be better pictures to go along with ignorant statements.

Very mature! You reduced an argument to a personal attack with no real provocation! I think that really only serves to discredit you. It is obvious to most readers that this thread has devolved from it's original course and is probably overdue to be locked or heavily patrolled.

I agree with bushman5, we need some beer. Maybe then people wouldn't be getting so upset over the internet. Can't wait to get off and grab a few...

1. There was no personal attack. Calling a statement "ignorant" says nothing of the person making the statement in question. Unless, of course, the person making said statement is overly sensitive.

2. I am not interested in what you think "discredits" me. This is not a debate, so crdibility is irrelevant. Oh, and it's still the internet.

Ok, lets first re-evaluate your first statement:
People seriously need to improve their google-fu. There have got to be better pictures to go along with ignorant statements.

First you make a statement that references my post and suggests I am otherwise incompetent or unskilled at "google-fu". I did take that personal. You directed a statement at me, not my writing. You might think its funny with the offhand internet (anonymous who gives a $hit) careless and cynical humor so often found on forums. I didn't. I actually care about the forum here, as I spend quite a bit of time here. I take all my communication with people serious. I still laugh and joke, but in an environment where writing doesn't convey tone or humor with any real texture, I watch my language. Second you suggest I adopted a crappy picture (agreeably so, but nonetheless irrelevant to your subject matter), just before you outright call a statement I made ignorant. Suggesting that insulting a statement someone makes in a base or crude fashion doesn't insult the person who made the statement is a subjective and weak argument. If you had simply disagreed with me and offered up evidence to the contrary, we would have had authentic discussion. If I told someone who spoke to me that whatever they said was "retarded", would they take offense? I imagine so. The internet is a place where anyone can frequently say and do most anything they like. That doesn't mean it's okay, or good. Too often people take out their real world issues in this environment. If I actually read the posts here and treat this place as a place where I might learn and exchange ideas, there isn't room for this kind of childish shit. Frankly, I'm usually quiet and watch from the bench, only to see others abused in the way you insulted me off hand. Frankly, much of what I've read on this an some other recent threads sickens me.

Iboschi, very commendable to take the initiative to try and improve Blade Forums.

As you see, everybody has different ideas how this should happen. Don't take it personal, if they differ from yours.

(Not directed at you, Iboschi) personal attacks have got to stop. If you want to insult people, and start flame wars, take it somewhere else. We don't need it here. This is one reason a lot of people, with good stuff to offer, leave and if keeps up, more will leave and all that will be left is all the wiseasses. I'm not directing this at anybody, in particular, but you know who you are. Grow the f**k up!

Doc

Thanks Doc, I think. I'm not at all opposed to ideas, but as someone with a background in higher education, I really find myself sensitive to the manner in which ideas are presented. You can argue until you're blue, the most sinister theory you have, as long as you're polite. In fact i enjoy playing and even debating the devils advocate. I find a distinct lack of character and human context in this most human sub-forums here of late. We're here to bond over similar philosophies, skills, equipment and ideas. We are here to share, communicate and learn. When people start slapping each other around and discounting each others feelings, it is only a matter of time before people outright fight. Call me sensitive if you like, but when someone mocks me with no provocation, I will either walk away or stand my ground. This isn't the place to screw with people. We all let off steam from time to time, but it should never be at another's expense here. Frankly I can't add anything to the second portion of your statement because you hit the nail on the head. I'm not here to play games and toss about insults. I'm here to share and learn with the people who share a common goal.

Oi!!!! play nice the lot of you!!! or I'll bring out me Wuppen stick and start cracking your e-skulls!

WS&S to me is a daily gathering place where ideas, experiences and beer flows freely. Yes its getting stale, the economy sucks, many of us are unemployed or under employed, and the weather has sucked lately. Hence the stagnation of the forum and the cabin fever. Hell I get disgruntled sometimes and fire off posts without reading them closely.....

but all in all, WS&S is a fun place to pass the day while i look for work and surf the web.

anyways, lets drink some more! i'm in training to try and out drink that Busse dude...... :)
