Wave Feature Consensus

I like it, I prefer it, and my Emerson Super 7 has been my edc for a good stretch. The wave works for me, and I can take it out of my pocket w/o "waving" it when I need to--not an issue. It is very convenient--though a little tough on the pockets.

It's ok if you fell in love with a gimmicky feature, nobody is here to judge you.

First off I was teasing ya, second I'm a balisong kinda guy, only one Emerson in my arsenal :D

Ive become a custom to not fully wave opening my knives. I find it more convinent to half open it with the wave, once out use a wrist flick to finish the job. It is a little easier kn the knife, feels less abusive. But yes sometimes i enjoy letting it rip, full blow wave action deplohment.

Love the wave! Yeah when I switch it up I find myself trying to open other knives the same way!

For a cop or first responders with gloves, it's a great back-up knife in left-rear pocket.

I actually do not like the wave. My problem with it is that it will sometimes catch and partially open your knife when you don't want it to. I do think it is an ingenious feature though.

This. I've actually cut myself and my shirt with the wave. It's fine if you intend to open it every time you pull it out of your pocket, but what if you are about to hand it to someone else, or lay it on the table when you get home from work?

How in the world would a waved knife open when being handed to someone or laying on a table?

I like it, it's fun and convenient. That said, it's definitely not necessary for the lifestyle I lead, so for me it's a neat bonus more than a reason to buy, or avoid, X knife. I will also add my voice to the folks that have said once you're used to it it's pretty easy to use or NOT use as the situation demands it.

Exactly what IM said. It's easy to pull it out with your finger on the blade so it won't open.

I regularly carry an Emerson Sheepdog. Unless I specifically try to catch the back of the knife (WAVE feature) on my pocket when pulling it out, the knife does not automatically open. This probably varies based on technique, and I don't generally try to wave my knife every time I use it, but I still love the option. Having/not having a WAVE feature would not be a deal breaker in my book either way.

I love the Emerson wave, but ONLY on Emerson knives.

I really dislike it when someone "adds" a wave to their knife; it is tacky, and in my opinion a blatant violation.

I agree.......but don't have a problem when Spydie uses it. They always acknowledge the original maker.
Classy.......as usual.

I've found a couple of easy ways to pull out a waved knife without it opening. Takes a little practice but they're cake once you get it.

1. When retrieving your knife, put your middle finger right above the tip so that it holds the blade in place when you're pulling it out of your pocket.

2. When retrieving your knife, tilt it slightly so the wave is touching your leg and pull up. This way it will right up the pocket material on your leg and wont catch on the pocket.

I did cut the back pocket on one pair of jeans when waving an Emerson action hero style. I can't really blame the knife for that.
