Wave Feature Consensus

I really don't want to have to think about whether my knife will or will not open when I take it out of my pocket.

I am very used to having my knife stay closed when I take it out.

No wave for me, thanks.

Since 90% of my EDC is done in a belt sheath, the wave is of no value to me. None of my Emersons ( old CQC7B, Raven, A-100) employ the wave feature.

For me, wave opening is a must on a Karambit, as I carry them reverse grip in my left (weak hand) pocket.

For a primary blade it is a cool feature and I appreciate the design, but I do not find it necessary. My preferred method of opening for an everyday use knife is either flipper or BM axis. As for muscle memory, I luckily never have much of an issue switching between blades with different opening methods, which is a surprise as I am generally quite forgetful :o

I like it but don't need it. That said, I enjoy options and if I could have it, every folder I own would have a wave, flipper, Spyder hole, and an AXIS lock.

You don't have to wave a knife open if it has the feature anymore than you have to use a flipper. It's easy to pull the knife up and slightly forward without it opening and you usually have to actually try to open a knife reliably with a wave. If you are really worried about it opening it's very easy to put the tip of a finger over the end of the knife when pulling it out so if it were to try and open it would immediately hit your finger, stop, and come out as normal. I suspect those commenting that they don't want a knife to always open when taking it out have never actually held a waved knife.

Some may consider it a gimmick but it's no more than any other opening method. Also, not everyone carries a knife for the same reasons as you and they may have a very legitimate use for it which isn't really gimmicky.

I have a wave feature Emerson but never use it. But I love the way the knife looks so will not have it modified off.

I don't use it. Carried a cqc-7 for a long time, but in my back pocket. Takes more effort to use the wave from a back pocket than it does to just open it normally.

I myself, really like the wave feature. That being said, I have knives of different opening systems. Will I ever need to deploy my blade using the wave feature for its most intended purpose? (blade at the ready for business in a self defence situation) more than likely, No. But, I like having the option/using it when not around ppl it may scare. The easiest, quickest way (FOR ME) that I've found to reach for a waved knife has been to simply slide the knife a bit forward and away from the back end of the pocket and then pull up; knife is out, blade is not. This literally takes a few milliseconds more and only needs to be slid forward a few centimeters at most.

I dislike the Wave feature but like many of the knives that its on.
So...I remove it.

I've always been curious so please don't think I'm being sarcastic.
Can that wave feature open a bottle of beer. Some of those waves just look so close to being caplifters that I've always wondered.
As for me, I carry slipjoints, I'm just never in a hurry to open my knife.

All the fixed blades I posted... Those are cap lifters.

Well I now have 8 Emersons, and have found I prefer to open the knife with the thumb discs. I've done some practice with the wave opening but can only seem to get it to wave open 75% of the time. Also waving it tends to shred pants pockets fast.

Personally I'm not a fan. I think it has something to do with those people who hang zip ties and whatever else they can find around their house off their knives to give them the wave feature. It looks god awful and I'm pretty tired of seeing the same pictures of the same knives here on the forum with those stupid homemade waves. To each his own I guess, but I don't get it.
