WC Startac (new model?)

I am ultimately happy with the customer service I got from Wilson! They did get me the discless version that I wanted. It did take a few phone calls and emails but I guess thats prob normal when exchanging an item ordered online. In the end like I said Wilson came through for me! I hope u guys get the versions that u want! Im gonna preorder a Starbenza! I just love the Starburst grip pattern! And guys that want a reg Umnum without the disc, I would grab one now before they re gone for good!! I know plazacutlery has a few! Cheers!

Hey I didn't get any sticker with my starbenza!

My buddy said the same thing. I told him; remember last year when I spent $3500 on this?...

They should of thrown in a Starbenza with that sticker! :p

" I've decided that if Chris approves it, it must work -and work well. "

This reminds me of the old joke about how would Bill Gates design a new lightbulb. The answer is no bulb... he would define darkness as the new industry standard. I removed the clip a year ago on my StarTac 'zaan when it arrived (I hate clips!). It sill has the same ~60% lockbar engagement as it did a year ago - same as my two month old small Sebbie. Their lockbars look similar, too. I press the bar far enough to disengage - usually, one-handed. It's a finely made device - requires a modicum of care - like all framelocks. I don't think a Hinderer lock bar limiter is necessary here - but I don't know how many 'zaans CRK has had to service, either. Now, on my ZT-0301 & 0551 - yeah, I guess the Hinderer is a necessary evil. Glad, for now, that I have my older one!

I'm also proud to report that my Zaan posted today with no disc.

It started out to be a strange, aggravating Monday here, but glad it had a nice ending.

So I have a "diskless" Startac, born Aug 10th, 2011 for sale! $600! Any takers?:D

KIDDING!

So Hoodep and Steel_Addiction... How are your knives for fit and finish? How strong is the detent when closed? Just curious how the same batch came out.

Im glad everyone got the one they wanted!

I was taking a closer look at it over coffee and I noticed they put a new style lanyard pin. Wondering if this is just a Wilson exclusive or not.

@blackend its perfect. Detent is just as strong as my regular zaan. Im thrilled! Its going to be my edc until I pass on and then it will go to my son and im sure it will serve him for his lifetime.

The sad thing is I might have considered your offer if I had gotten an idiot zaan.

Cool! I flipped the standoff screw only because the back(non-allen head)screw is flatter and looks better on the front. The clip screw and front standoff screw resemble each other. Just looks cleaner.

I did notice that the startac is slightly easier to close due to a slight increase in the cutout. Meaning more purchase on the lockbar.

The discless startac is the boss!

F&F are typical CRK on mine, with the only exception being the back screw - it is a tad off center and scuffed up IMO {read others had similar issues around here}. Detent basically the same as my other Zaans as well. I also noticed the updated lanyard pin. I am sending a few in for service so will plan to ask for another screw when they mail them back to me.

Steel: I am glad you received the one you wanted and can rest easy now. Hope anyone else that's waiting gets what they want as well.

I found a popular knife dealer online who had a new shipment of Umnums about a week ago....i ordered one:o Birth card of Sept 6th 2011:D

I couldn't resist as we all now know, the "discless" ones won't be made anymore. I had an Umnum a while ago, but sold it, and vowed to get another one. The difference with the lock bar on this this one compared to my old one is quite different. This new one has the larger cutout for easier closing of the lock bar. To me, it makes all the difference in the world.

The lbs on the umnum wouldn't be bad if it actually did what it does on a hinderer xm but it doesn't it's just there to prevent over extension when closing the knife. To me that's stupid.

I was under the impression that the pocket clip placement over the lockbar was supposed to help prevent hyperextension in the first place. Odd choice to say the least.
